We all love anti heroes. Vic and his crew are the bad guys in all this, but they do what we all want them to do, break the law to get “real” criminals off the streets and then enrich themselves at the expense of the mob. (cause stealing from the mob is ok)
And that’s what makes shows like this one great. Shane is a shitbag, but we all love his character. Vic is a criminal on par with Dirty Harry, but we root for him. Wyms and Acevada are trying to clean up the district, but we HATE em for that! I love how this show makes you think about your own ethics all the time.
The only thing I found incredibly questionable was the cop shooting. That could have been handled better (and that’s an understatement).
Like someone else said, Vic allows and abides things like drugs and prostitution, which is basically two consenting adults. I say let them get on with it if they coke their brains out. But when it comes to things like murder and pedophelia, he’s the best cop to have on the job. He doesn’t take no shit, and he gets results. If i was the captain, I would just let him do whatever it takes. In my eyes, he is more effective on crime, depsite the compromises he makes with his integrity.
I know if I was attacked, I would want this guy taking my case on.
Which is why I always found the tagline to be great and sum up the series perfectly: The road to justice is twisted. He’s a hardass, and you know he does bad things, but dammit! he’s effective on what he sees to be the big bad stuff. What was the line in season one? Talking to his first drug dealer I think it was, “I let you sell so that this (drug related shootings) don’t happen. I don’t want LA turning into the goddamn Gazza Strip!” Something like that. He does a good job of being both respectable and distasteful at the same time. Damn, but I love this show. Season 3 can’t come soon enough. And oh God, 3 shows a season? How can they get by with so few? I think you meant 13. And isn’t it going to be 15 this season? Whee!

But damn that was a hell of a way to start the series. I watched it for the first time and was knocked on my ass. I never looked back.
The new season can’t come fast enough.
Just to provide some info on the flashback episode. Its other name is “Co-Pilot”. When they began filming, they made this as the pilot, but the execs wanted something with more of a bang, so they did the pilot in which we all saw. Then during season 2, they wanted to slow things down a bit after the Armadillo storyline ended, so they decided it would be a nice time to air co-pilot. The one scene where they were like “This was pretty easy” and “Only this once”, were great, just to see how much the boys have changed. Also, just in case anybody cared, Tulips was just in Playboy last month. Season 3 teasers are popping up now, and they all have to do with the money train. Looks like the boys are in for a rough season 3.

Vic beating Amidillio (sp) up with the law book was an intense, satisfying and wildly ironic scene.

Bit dissapointed Vic didn’t smash the crap out of Corrine’s Private Dick.

Felt sorry for Julian. Especially the season cliffhanger.

Corrine was annoying. She TOLD Vic in the pilot to go for Striketeam. He may do some bad things, but it’s ultimately for justice, and he was always a good father to his kid.

I really liked the whole Amidillio arch. I thought after it finished, the rest was a bit of an anticlimax. (Still really good, just not as intense).

last season, Wymms was somewhat supportive of Vic. Now she’s pissed because his team got that scumbag Amidillio killed? Thats what he deserved. I liked her at first, but now I hate her.

That’s not gonna happen. Tavon is just as violent as Shane and Vic. I think it will be more of the same, but on a more careful level

Yeah, but in the first season, she didn’t know that Vic was the unofficial police liaison to the city’s drug gangs, and when she did figure it out while investigating the murder of Vic’s pet gangster T.O., Vic did everything he could to keep her out of the loop and eventually got her taken off the case. It’s funny to see how the slant of the series’ towards Vic’s point of view determines people’s view of Claudette. She’s really the moral center of the show; her only agenda is good, above-board police work.
But Vic’s the one who gets the best results. I wouldn’t care how he got criminal scum off the streets. I’d rather him do it permenantly than Claudette putting someone away for a few years then they are free to do it again.
Just gotta point out too how good the music is when they use it. They don’t use it much, but when they do it’s excellent. Like the episode after Vic beats up Amidilo, and the season final when the strike team are standing around the cash dumpster.
This thread already has a good discussion on vigiliantes vs. good cops. There’s always still rules to follow. Soceity cannot allow individuals to decide the law and then implement what they see fit.
The Shield was originally called Rampart and was loosely based on the Rampart Police department in LA. This department commited alot of the crimes you see on the show. They framed dealers they didn’t like and protected others for cash. The cops probably weren’t bad people, just cops like vic trying to get street justice and line their own pockets at the same time, but this causes chaos. People’s distrust of the police grows and eventually boils over like it did in the show.
I think cops like Vic aren’t exactly “bad”. I mean, come on, sometimes your gonna need a little force to “convince” someone who is blatently guilty to confess. And I was intensly satisfied when he beat the shit out of that Amidillo guy. The guy RAPED a 12 year old. He deserved everything he got. I love the fact that Vic kicked the shit out of him with the lawbook too lol.

The problem with Wyms is that she wanted to bring him down. Vic would (could) not tell her why he was not working with her in this matter. I think she believed he was trying to protect him like he protects other criminals. Vic wanted him dead, but to Wyms it seemed like he was trying to stop her from catching him.
That’s actually a good way of looking at it. I never thought of it like that… I don’t actually hate Wyms most of the time, but I was definatly rooting for Vic.
Also does anyone know the songs and bands from the episode finale’s final scene, and the opening scene of the episode “Partners”? And also, I just found out this show has a comic…is it any good?

The opening scene of “Partners” is “Breakdown” by Tantric. It’s from their debut CD. The song from the season finale is “Overcome” by LIVE. Itis from their CD V.
Holy shit, these promos for next season are intense.
Can’t wait until the season premiere.
