The new season of The Shield has been postponed until March (It was supposed to start in January). Rumor has 2 new episodes being added to this season (making there 15 new episodes).
This is by far my favorite show on television (I also watch Smallville and Angel, and catch The Dead Zone and CSI whenever I can). Who else out there likes this show and is looking forward to it as much as I am.
Also, I just bought Season 2 on DVD (someone here broke streetdate on December 15, so everyone is selling it here now) and have flew threw all 12 episodes in 3 days. GREAT TV.
I just wanted to start a thread to talk about the show, the first two seasons and the DVDs to tide me over until the new shows air.
I got lots of stuff to talk about (especially about the new DVD) if someone else out there wants to talk about it too.
Holy hell, where do you live that they are selling season 2 on DVD? I have been counting down the days till January 6, which was SUPPOSED to be a double shot of DVD and Season premier. In my opinion, The Shield is the best show on TV, with 24 a close second. I mean, what show has you feeling sympathetic for a bad guy? Even after he shoots a cop, you’re like “Oh Well”. Chiklis deserves that emmy, I dont see anybody else playing Vic Mackey. Its great that I LOATHE CCH Pounder and Beninto Martinez too, even though they play by the book characters. Here’s something to talk about, my prediction for season 3 is this…Back in Season 1 they arrested an Armenian who said Danny had tasty feet. He later escaped at the end of the episode. At the end of season 2…they rob from the Armenenian mafia…I have a feeling Jesus is gonna come back and come after his money.
Can’t say I’m looking forward to it, but I think the shows amazing. I’ve only rented part of the first season and I’m already into it, hell this show has to have one of the best pilots ever.
Just so I know though, what is the current season? Three? Four?
From the teasers that they’ve been showing, looks like the new episodes will feature betrayal/paranoia within the strike team after the money train takedown. Juicy.
I live in Norman, Oklahoma. Got my Season 2 DVD on the 23rd and finished it Christmas day.
After watching the DVD, I see so many great things but at the same time, it seems the show is very disjointed.

Vic gets shot. The next episode he hurts once when sitting down. It is never mentioned again after that. Shouldn’t something that important have some kind of ramifications?
Danny is being stalked and pretty much tormented by the Middle Eastern woman whose husband she shot. Then all of a sudden (after the marijuana in the car) we never hear about it again. It just stops without any resolution.
The new chief tells the auditor that the precinct is fine and she is dismissed. Then he tells David that he will be let go after the election. Then the force hits the major busts to save their asses. Then he cracks down on them. It all seemed kind of disjointed, which might be the point, since they are shooting towards realism, but it made me feel lost.
Speaking of the auditor, she went from being kind and helpful to Vic, to setting him up to take the fall. I understand this, but there was nothing to prepare us for this - we get no reason at all for why she turned on Vic, when she said she was there to take down David.
Other than dangling plot strings, it is still my favorite show on TV.
The DVD is AMAZING.
There is a featurette where they take you through the final shows shoot and it is really good. There is a roundtable with Shawn Ryan and three of his directors where they talk about the strengths and weaknesses of directing the show that is really good. There is a neat little feature where you can see how they created a scenes sound track, step by step, and as a filmmaker myself, I found it facinating since you can listen to each track with the others muted (dialogue, sound effects, music, ADR). There is also commentary on four shows.
Excellent DVD.
And now I have to wait until March to see Season 3.
I havent seen season 2 since it was on tv, so i cant really comment on your criticisims except for the first one. I’m pretty sure that they explained it was like 3 months ago or something that he was shot, or a substantial amount of time. I could be wrong though, since I have a horrible memory.
this is possible because (and this is from a fuzzy memory) David was told he had like 6 months left in charge and then he would either win his election or resign. Then the election was like 2 shows later, so the passage of time is a possibility.
I still wish the antagonizing of Danny would have came to a satisfying conclusion.
In the commentary on the first disk (I think it was for the fourth show of season 2) Shawn Ryan mentioned that the season was hard to write because not all of the character archs had been decided yet. I hope that is the reason they postponed the Season 3 debut, to solidify the story lines.
And there is a new trailer for season 3 on the DVDs. Not the one I have seen online, a new one.
Then I went in on the 24th and told the manager (who is a friend of mine) that he broke street by almost 2 weeks. I did not want him to get in trouble, but I waited until I had my copy.
He told me that another store in town broke street on December 16 and then showed me the computer that now listed street at Dec 16.
When I saw it I freaked, called a friend and bought two copies (one for me, one for him) on the spot. Then I watched it all in three days.
I hate that they postponed the show until March, but I’m sure the wait will be worth it. I love this show and am trying to scrounge u the dough to pick up the Seasn 2 dvds. Can’t wait…the commercials I’m seeing seem to imply that Acevedo is trying to screw Wims out of her new job before she gets a chance. Wonder how that turns out.
Just picked mine up and watched the first disc…and boy have I missed this show. It would have been the most amazing day ever… Shield all day, 24 at 9, then Shield Season 3 at 10…but we’ll just have to wait on the last one. Oh well, still great to have Season 2 in my possession.
