wayden, I feel the exact same way as you do. I really have hated her since season two. I thought I wrote that exact same sentence (and it turns out not), but I went back to find it in last season’s thread, and I found this, thought it was funny:

Okay so I’ve been talken too much in the season 5 dvd review thread, so I’ll try to move here.
Last nights episode was pretty decent in the fact they showed Clark alone in the loft. Continuity was good, and there was a little fresh dynamic not seen for a while.
Something interesting was that Lex recognized Oliver right away in costume. Makes you wonder what and how the secret identies will be delt with in the end. Well with all of Lexs brain issues, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets Smallville blacked out of his memory.
I’m sure there will be some dues ex machina event near the end.
Also I’d love the show to end with an exact shot from the first movie of Welling in suit flying out of the fortress just like Reeves did after the mask of Jor-el flys through the screen. Yes the music must be the same, it should flow into the Superman main theme and just go into the credits. A nice nod would be if when he flies out he flies into space and looks at the camera like the films do. Would I mind the credits switch to the classic style credits near the end? Nope.
Yeah Lana is hot, but shes on the road to be really burned. Clark is practically in full hero mode, Lex is pretty evil, Lois is writing, everything seems to be on track. Last season started great and stumbled. First episode this year has tried to fix all the mistakes and get back on straight, seems to be doing the job so far.
What happened to Shelby the dog?
unlike some, I like the lex/lana romance (it’s a lot better than the witch stuff). I also like the clark-alone-in-the-loft bit. I even like green arrow “missing” the can.
if you remove the geek of the week (and her painfully easy demise), I’d give this episode a thumbs up.
I too dig the Lana/Lex pairing. Very unlikely couple. Good question, where is Shelby?

He’s wrong. The show usually has mostly good episodes with two or three bad episodes a season, just like any other show, but if you watched it every week you would know that.
I watched it every week for 4 seasons, and then I realized it was crap.

Ah, but if you stopped at the fourth season, then I feel your pain. Season 4 was utter balls the whole way through. I had to trudge through it to get to the ultimately better Season 5.
Season 4 has some decent stuff.
How this show has more discussion than Supernatural I’ll never know…

yeah season five has the best season long arch, with fine, and the aliens, etc.
Also, I think supernatural is pretty much a paint by numbers show, at least in so far as later debate. There’s not much discernable mystery, and smallville warrants discussion because there is constantly source material to compare it with.

The show is getting better and better this season. Tonight’s episode almost had no really terrible character moments. Even Lana seemed not really annoying. The Luthor duo exchange at the end was great too.

I liked how Lois’ drawing of GA looked just like the Unibomber.
Lana was interesting for a change. She’s becoming just as obessive as Lex. Some of his shady attributes are rubbing off it seems. The best way for her character to go is make her act just like Lex. Clark can later blame him for corrupting her.
Always best when they stick to the mythology and the characters.
Agreed, good episode, I liked the little hint of a Superman theme at the end, I fully expected to hear the whole thing.
Liking how they’re using the Green Arrow so far and it’s gonna be interesting if he plays the part it seems he will in giving the world Superman.
While Lana was more interesting than usual I just can’t like her character. I’ve never really liked her but I tolerated her when she was with Clark because even though it made it like a teen soap opera at times, it was pretty cool to see him so tortured by it all in seasons 1 and 2, and I think it was ok because we always knew it wouldn’t last.
But keeping her around for 6 seasons, and just generally have her being annoying is too much. She served a purpose in being the mistake Clark learns from for future relationships and she should have gone when Lois arrived. It seems at times they’re really struggling to find things to do with her. Of course I can think of a few things to do with her, but none of them would be allowed to be shown.
I can look at the hottness of Lana all day, but yeah, poo or get off the pot. That said, I like this new angle thats there with Lana. Wanting to be with Lex, she starts to become like him; paranoid, obsessive, distrustful. It’s the only way to go realy without her spinning her proverbial wheels and remain redundant…and annoying.
Greart episode and next week’s looks good too.
I agree with everyone-- Lana is slowly becoming tolerable in this new suit.

I like the concept a lot, partly because it makes her the first main character in the entire series to have an arc (someone that actually changed, for good or ill, in response to their experiences). Everyone else is EXACTLY the same as they were in season 1. As someone already mentioned, it’s a great “final straw” to cement the inevitable clark vs lex stuff, it has a real world feel to it. Historically, live or die rivalries are hardly ever about world shaking events, it’s usually a small (relatively) thing at it’s core. I think lana turning to lex’s view of the world is a great catalyst.
Green arrow (let’s face it, he’s essentially batman without an imagination) still seems a bit silly to me but beside clark basically everyone looks slow and weak, superman’s just too powerful to believe anyone or thing is a genuine threat. I did like green arrow shooting the bullet out of the air though. It’s absolutely ridiculous but it helped put him into the same super-human world as clark, before that I couldn’t buy him as a hero.
