I like how it took them six seasons to finally come around to his super-breath. I wish they focused more on Clark’s illness and less on the ol’ “Someone has kidnapped Lex!” bit.

I hope when they get to the Justice League ep (I think it’s like halfway through the year), that all the recurring characters have uniforms. It would be sweet to see their take on Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman. Who I assume are coming back, but I don’t know for sure. Did I miss anyone else that they have “introduced”?
I read in TV Guide last month that Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg would all be making guest appearances again. I thought they did a great job with Cyborg and it will be cool to see Flash grown up a bit more…
I always enjoy the “discover-new-powers” episodes and it’s cool when other pre-heros get introduced. I’d always found the super-breath thing was a bit silly so I’m really glad they decided to treat it in the tongue-in-cheek way they did. I was especially impressed that they used clark’s cold related accident to get lois into journalism, it was a good solution to deal with two things they eventually had to address.
btw - do they pick the most obscure heroes for clark to meet on purpose? I don’t know DC nearly as well as marvel but these characters seem kinda low-rent to me (to be fair, I liked the flash episode a lot). I mean, green arrow? I’m sure super human marksmanship might have been intimidating in the early 1900’s but I’d think three children with automatic weapons could take him out. Does he have any other powers?
buffys- Green Arrow is pretty much a master marksman who has an array of silly arrows. Sounds ridiculous, but with the right writing, he can be a pretty cool character.
The characters they are introducing (with the exception of Cyborg, who is usually a Teen Titan) are all future members of the Justice League of America. The characters can be silly (Plastic Man) but depending on how they are treated by the writers, they can be fun episodes.

I think it speaks mostly about the eras from which they were created. With a lot of the DC stable, we’re looking at characters that are at least 20 years older than Marvel’s. 1938-1941 vs 1961+

Its also down to liecensing. Batman and Wonderwoman will never show up due to being film properties. Surprised Smallville didn’t end when Superman Returns came out.

Hence, the whole Adam Knnight “wink, wink” boyfriend character of Lana a few seasons ago. That can’t bring Bruce Wayne, but that can give the fans a little to work with.

Unlike Marvel, who has characters with different studios, negating any kind of “team-up” film, DC is controlled completely by Time Warner and both Supes/Bats movies were produced by Legendary Pictures. Whatever reason Bruce Wayne has not been included in the cast, it’s not a licensing issue. Plus, before Smallville, the show was originally going to be about a young Bruce Wayne.
I believe, and I may be wrong, with Bats and WW, it is up to the producers of the film versions on whether or not they want the character to show up on Smallville. That is why, as has been stated, there will be no Wonder Woman since god forbid Joel Silver should let the Smallville crew play around with the charcter.

Green Arrow is awesome. His arrows may sound stupid, but Justic League Unlimited proved that with great writing any character can have his moment to shine. I’ve only just recently discoved the character, but he’s every bit as cool as Batman to me. He’s doesn’t have Wayne’s pathos, but he’s still a cool character.
well I think that the season is set-up very well, with a lot of potential avenues of interest, but I think its a bit predictable that the season will end with the justice league jr taking on zod, reincarnate.
Wow, did someone at the CW forget to cash the check for the Special Effects? I was appalled at how shitty the “vines” looked. Evil Dead impressed me more and that was 20 years ago.
Other than that, I like the flirtatious courtship between Lois and Ollie. I can’t get over how much this actor looks like a blonde Brandon Routh. Maybe it’s the chin.
I really hope a fucking house falls on Lana and Lex. I am so burnt out on the both of them. I honestly don’t care about either of them anymore.
The last shot of Clark alone in the barn while everyone else hooks up makes me think of the first season. That shot perfectly fit the Emo soundtrack they had going.
I’m not the biggest fan of this show, but not the biggest hater either. When it’s on, it’s really good. But it just doesn’t happen enough.
One thing that’s really annoying is when they have “uncomfortable silences” between the actors. The pretty faces on this show just can’t pull off acting/emotion without words, and the writers shouldn’t force it upon them. It happened FOUR different times in just this episode, and it was painful to watch every time.

I can’t even stand the sound of Lana’s voice anymore. It’s gotten so bad I don’t even find her attractive anymore. I hope she dies soon…
I think the show passed Lana by a couple seasons ago. Her character really hasn’t grown or changed at all since the series first started, where as the others all definitely have. I just do my best to ignore her scenes, and wait till she’s off. Sad part is, she’s pretty much wasting all of Rosenbaum’s screen time that could be used better with a different storyline. Love the stuff with Lois still, her moments have been more or less consistent since she first came on the show.
Definitely some stop-motion effects with the vines, rather than 100% CGI. Lots of nice little geeky and cute moments. Better than the first two episodes for sure.
Ollie Queen is a great addition so far. The show kind of has a huge lack of emotionally/intellectually mature characters, so having one more person with screen time that isn’t lost in teen angst is a good thing.
