i totally agree with you. i think the reveal that he’s bi takes away the possibility that he’s the carver because it’s almost too obvious.

matt’s beat down from the 2nd episode was so fucking funny. those shemales were some tough bitches. then sean smashes his face in. priceless! matt is having a rough couple of episodes.

boooooooooo for no boobies.

There have been few television moments in recent memory that made me jump up from my seat and literally cheer at the set. Sean decking Matt was one of them.

I really don’t care for the character. The first time I saw him, he immediately struck me as way too old to be a teenager [John Hensley is actually 28]. I dunno, he just does things that seem TOO far out of character for a high school student.

Now I understand that Nip/ Tuck is a primetime drama and that goes with the territory, but it really takes me out of the show whenever he is onscreen. If he was in college in his mid-twenties or so, it would make more sense to me.

I have to agree. I’ve always thought that he looked WAAAY too old for high school.

Also, I realize there’s child labor laws and everything, but where the hell does Annie (Sean and Julia’s daughter) go? There are large gaps of time where she’s not shown and for a child her age, you’d think the parents would be a little more involved in her life, even though she isn’t a major character. According to the IMDb, the actress has made appearances in 14 episodes so far.

LOL Hell maybe she is the Carver this show loves to go for shock value. That would certainly be a WTF moment.

Well at least they worked the daughter in this week.

I know the lead characters on this show always need to be miserable but couldn’t they have at least given the old lady some kind of happy ending? What a downer.

Well, the cases are allegories for the character’s own issues, so the ending for the old lady likely was meant to tell us and/or Sean about the prospects for his situation with his son. Plus, the old lady being able to move on with her life w/ less guilt could be considered a silver lining.

The Carver’s voice sure reminded me of Matt this episode. The Carver doesn’t seem to have much of an accent, which would point away from the new doctor, and Julia’s old boyfriend. Heck, I could even buy Famke Jannsen’s transsexual as the Carver at this point. I’m so confused.

I’ll stick w/ Julia’s boytoy for now, we’ve still got about 5 episodes for him to appear before I give up on that theory.

You said it, man. I remember when this show used to be a fun time. People having sex and partying. Sean and Christian having the time of their lives. Now its all doom and gloom. Even the patients can’t end up happy this season. Fat lady dies, old lady that was blackmailing them ends up paralyzed, and fake Carver lady gets a little visit by the real Carver, just to name a few. I’m not saying the show should become superficially happy, but enough with the bad times already.

I’m gonna go ahead and throw a new Carver theory out there for you all. Not saying I buy it, but it’s a fun idea. Alright, ready? The Carver is *deep breath* Julia. Laugh all you want, but consider:

(1) The Carver punishes beauty… It’s been demonstrated through the series that Julia holds a grudge against Shawn (Sean?) because she “sacrificed” her potential medical career for him and their family. Shawn’s practice is in the business of creating beauty and erasing defects. From that perspective, the Carver’s actions could be construed as an indirect lashing out against McNamara/Troy or a restoration of the balance between beauty and ugliness that McNamara/Troy’s work distorts;
(2) The Carver has gained access to both Christian’s apartment and Shawn’s home with relative ease (on occasion, despite the presence of police). Not much needs to be said here except that Julia, obviously, has ease of access to both locales.;
(3) The Carver has some degree of medical acumen… This fact is especially driven home in last night’s episode and looks to be played up next week, as well (what with Troy being a suspect and all). I say this primarily for two reasons, both having to do with the attack on Troy. First, the Carver slashed Christian’s throat without severing a major artery or his windpipe. Second, it was suggested in last night’s episode that the Carver may be using something similar to the defective anesthetic to paralyze his victims. Again, it’s more likely that someone with medical acumen would (a) have sufficient knowledge of anatomy to make a slashing knife attack without cutting something important and (b) obtain and properly use anesthetic to paralyze Christian. As may be recalled, Julia does have some degree of medical knowledge. She was pre-med along with Shawn and Christian. In fact, per last week’s episode, she scored higher than Shawn on the MCAT. Lastly, in the first season, she had re-enrolled in pre-med classes at the U.

Alright, so there it is. I’ve got a few more reasons why the Carver could be Julia, but right now there a little too nebulous to set forth in writing (something to do with her breast implants). Like I said, just something to have fun with, so have at it.

It’s a testament to the crazed reality they’ve created on this show, that ANYONE being a homicidal killer is believable - it certainly makes the mystery more compelling.

As for Julia as a suspect…

The same psychological reasonings for her are even stronger for Matt - he has a much deeper resentment of Sean and his work.

The Carver has gained access to many people’s homes, not just Sean & Christian’s. And when the police were watching Sean, the Carver went after Christian. I’d have to double-check the DVD, but I seem to recall Julia being under police protection when Christian was attacked?

I don’t recall anyone saying the Carver shows real medical knowledge. Christian’s wound was superficial. The other cuts were severe. The Carver clearly uses a scalpel and some kind of drug, but we also haven’t been told how hard that drug is to obtain.

She hasn’t shown the outward anger to make her a likely suspect to me. She’s more self-destructive than anything. She also doesn’t seem to resent the people Sean & Christian treat - she even fantasizes about doing that work herself. Plus there’s the build and voice of the Carver - they both make me 99% sure the Carver is male.

But it’s hard to rule anyone out.

But doesn’t the Carver have to have a dick?

There’s been no semen, so it could be a woman using a “tool”. I’m still certain it’s a guy, but I don’t think they’ve stated flat-out that a penis was involved.

Like Matt, I also think Julia has had too much going on in her personal life to be the Carver. If I was going to entertain the idea that it was a woman I would look at Liz before Julia.

I’m still going to buy into the boy toy theory.

Carver theories aside, this was avery good episode. One of the strongest so far this season. The alzheimer patient’s wife was a pretty heartbreaking story and I found the domestic abuse visit to Sean’s house to be surprisingly powerful.

In a sick kind of way, I was kind of satisfied to see the faker actually end up meeting the carver at the end of the episode. I also liked Christian’s reaction to her.

Oh and the faker’s thoughts as the surgery went on…that was a pretty cool use of the voiceover…morbid but still cool.

As far as the carver…I am still saying its matt.

I thought Julia finally came to terms with Sean’s work, saying something to the like of her appreciating what he does for people?

how could the voice remind you of matt’s when it’s not even really the person’s actual voice we hear?

the carver has been around long before matt’s newfound resentment for sean. he found out the truth about sean not even being his real father and yet he still thought of him as his it and he was also enjoying working at his office and spending time with him. this was all after the carver showed up. matt was in a happy place with ava as well. matt isn’t exactly an expert with sharpe objects as either. you can ask his cock that one. if the carver eventually end’s up being matt it would be horrible storytelling by the writer’s on the show.

Yeah, that does ring a bell… As I said, the Julia theory is just my pet theory of the moment. I do believe, however, that the Carver is a woman. There was something about the manner in which he/she flourished the condom in front of Christian that seemed overly-deliberate, whether on the character’s part or that of the writers/directors. To me, that suggests the old “red herring” routine. So, I’m gonna stick with it being a woman… probably not Julia, definitely not Liz (unless she’s wearing a helluva corset while in Carver mode), though.
I KNOW… it’s actually Julia’s mom

I’m pretty sure it is the actor’s voice, just modulated. The inflections and cadence to the voice would be the same, only slower. The voice modulator was the initial clue that we had seen the Carver sans disguise - its’ existence is mostly to hide his identity from us. After all, if you were going to kill a girl (like last ep) why wear the voice modulator? And even modulated, you can still tell accents and get a general idea of the tone of voice - men’s voices usually sound very different from women’s.

Matt has always had issues with his dad, and how little he’s around. I still haven’t seen anyone say the Carver is “skilled” - he just cuts completely through the flesh of the mouth. But I’d agree that he did seem too “together” when the Carver started. I’d have to re-watch season 2 to know exactly when the Carver attacks occured in the context of his storylines. If my horse (Julia’s boytoy) doesn’t pop back up soon, I might just do that.

matt has had issues with sean that regular kids have with their parents. it doesn’t mean they’re going to go out and slash people’s face’s. the carver will not be one of the main character’s. bank on it.

and about the voice they use. do you really believe that throughout the movie ‘scream’ they were actually using skeet ulrich’s voice? or that the killer was really skeet ulrich or matthew lillard running around in a suit? they use stunt double’s and shit. i highly doubt they even knew who the carver was going to be last season. writer’s tend to make shit up as they go on. the most lunacy of reason’s i hear for figuring out who the carver is “the hand it looked like a women’s so it has to be a women!” or things about their physical presence. the first apearance of michael myers in ‘halloween’ was played by debra hill. they had michael in a first person point of view and you see his hand reach for a knife. well that hand was one and only debra hill’s. my point overall is we can not guess who the carver is from their voice (because it’s not the real voice of who is eventually going to be the carver) and the look of the person playing him/her.

Scream was a farce… Nip/Tuck is plenty surreal, but it’s not intended to be a giant in-joke IMO…

I’d agree that the actual actor doesn’t have to be behind the mask, although I suspect they’re at least using someone of the same gender and similar build. I bet the voice IS the actual actor, and that they knew the identity when the Carver was introduced. This storyline was planned to run a season and a half. When the Carver was first shown, you know they already had the season 2 finale cliffhanger in mind. Nip/Tuck has consistently shown long-ranging plans for their arcs, so they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt from me.

i would bet 2 apple’s and a bag of brownies that it’s not the actor’s voice. for one thing they don’t like revealing that kind of shit in advance to the actor’s because they don’t want anything to leak out.
