I totally forgot about the abortion. The emotional depth of the lead character is about what I’d expect from a Goosebumps book.

That’s my point. They mention to her that he will train her, but then in the alley she takes that guy down in one easy swoop.
I guess jumping from building to building will do that to you.
The show is such a mess. Instead of her really having to train in how to use her abilities, it’s like she came out of the gate at her full potential. My fellow XBox 360 owners may relate that it is like the demo for Crackdown, where your guy was fully powered within a few minutes of playing. Where’s the challenge to the character, and where’s the drama for the audience to latch onto?

I don’t think he’s dead, they were loading him into the ambulance. When he was talking about a “viable candidate,” they were talking about the Bionic Bruenette Woman… because they weren’t sure if they were going to have to liquidate her… or something. I wonder if there is some directors cut of the pilot that’s 3 hours long. The way it’s cut it’s like a summarization of the actual episode. Not that I would really care to see it, it just might explain some things.
Anyway, Sackhoff has a large mouth. Julia Roberts big. She should have just eaten the Bionic Bruenette Woman.
When they did that shitty CGI x ray of Bionic Bruenette’s legs you saw they were entirely metal with muscle built around them.
I also enjoyed them taking the time to establish that Bionic Bruenette’s non bionic arm was useless in the fight only to have her using it to block… because you can’t effect Bionic Starbuck’s arm when she has you by the throat and is stationary but it’s easily deflected when it comes at you at a higher rate of speed and force.

First episodes of a series are pretty tricky to pull off. I’m giving it 6 eps to find its bearings before bailing out on it. Who knows? It might be alright.
If I ever see another woman crying in the shower on a TV show or movie, I may just have to go cry in my own shower.
The pilot left me rather cold. I’m not particularly fond of the actress playing Jaime, and watching the scenes with Katee Sackoff (the evil bionic, Sarah) made me kind of wish that Katee was playing the lead.
And how much crap can they throw at Jaime, anyway? Daddy-issues, sister-issues, miscarriage, car accident, a boyfriend who is fifteen years older than her who seems to only want to be with her because she doesn’t really fit into his nice, orderly life and is a way to stick it to his evil dad…
But even through all of this, Jaime doesn’t seem particularly more strong for surviving, just kind of “meh, okay”.
Miguel Ferrer and Will Yun Lee are the only the two things (plus the return of psycho-bionic, Sarah) that might entice me to continue watching this.
Mostly I just wish that Jaime and her elderly boyfriend would go to Paris and let us watch the more interesting psycho-Bionic show of Sarah (Katee) and Jae (Will).

Six, really? You’re a stronger person than I am. I’m giving it one more episode and then ditching it if it doesn’t drastically improve. I’ll check it out on DVD if I somehow hear the pilot was a fluke and the series gets better.
They could have cast a wooden log as Jamie and it would have had more charisma and personality than Michelle Ryan.
Well, that was a bionic yawn. Think I’m done with this one.

I think the writing was the least of this show’s problems. The casting and the ripped from BSG super-dour tone were what killed me.

It’s impossible to write effectively when you’re trying to jam too much into an hour show. It’s as though the producers said:
"By the end of the first hour, we want this bitch to have an edgy relationship with her superiors even if you have no time to establish why that might be, she needs to confront and defeat her main adversary, we need to destroy her relationship with her boyfriend/savior, have him be horribly injured, and set up a mysterious backstory for him. If by the end of one hour, this show is not completely set-up for our desired episodic “saving the world story of the week” set-up, you will all be shot.

I thought that bit with her running in the woods was hilarious. Really, that’s the best they could do? CGI really hasn’t come further?
It was horrible. Writing, acting (except for Miguel Ferrer), the look, it *all* sucked. It was Ghost Whisperer bad. Of course, it killed in the ratings, NBC’s biggest audience for a pilot since West Wing or whatever…
Fucking awful show. Who writes this shit and why subject people that don’t love soap operas to it?
Lead chick is kinda sorta cute and kinda sorta has no personality, presence, or ability to act which I guess is only a minor problem when she’s the total focal point of this show.
Might have potential, but they fucked it from the giddyup by not showing her train before running off into the woods. Why would she be resentful/hateful towards the dude who saved her life? The lead girl is definitely no Lindsay Wagner. Zero charisma. The story was choppy, vague, yet crammed to the gills. I’m thinking it would have been more dramatically effective to have been introduced to her as she’s enjoying her life, husband, children- Kill the family and she is forced to adjust as a new robo- spy slut. Making her a little older would not have been a bad thing. This chick is just mean and nasty no matter what.
I dig the original series as they did a better job of exploring the Frankenstein themes however cheesy it may have been.
The “pilot” felt like it was stuck in fast forward mode from start to finish, they should have taken their time and kept it at a steady pace.
Honestly? I thought it didn’t totally suck, it was just boring. Thomas Kretschmann, Miguel Ferrer, and Katie Sackhoff (doing one of the better Rutger Hauer in Blade Runners since Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner) all sort of saved it for me, but the rest of it was just “meh.” It felt right at home on Sci-Fi, which is where I watched the repeat. I’ll give this one or two more shots, at least till Washington shows up. And so sue me, but I think Michelle Ryan (and her amazing reappearing disappearing American accent) is pretty hot.
But that little girl was bad bad bad.
