I love this show, but I do feel that one of the reasons the writers shot Galactica Boomer was that they didn’t know what else to do with her.
I think they lost the opportunity to explore the character of a Cylon mole after she discovers that she is a Cylon.
How do those who were close to her react to this over time?
Can they see the Boomer they knew and cared about now that they know she is also a Cylon?
How does Boomer cope with it?
By giving her only limited interaction with those she knew before (as opposed to Col. Tigh, with whom she had probably interacted very little), we don’t get to see the reactions of those who were closest to Galactica Boomer and how they deal with that knowledge.
I still love this show, but I do see a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Love what they’re doing with the Apollo/Adama dynamic. No quick and easy reconciliation here – although you can see that both are pained by what they’re doing to the other, they’re both convinced they’re doing the right thing.

I think they planned it knowing Caprica Boomer would make it to Galactica eventually(I assume next week) and they want to play the whole Cylon love triangle thing.
The whole president thread is the only thing keeping this show from being truely great. To me, shes acting more like a power hungry person with an obvious drug addiction, abusing other peoples religious beliefs in order to get what she wants. Im not sure if the writers intend for me to be sympathetic to her but I hate every second shes on screen, and I can only hope she actually dies from her cancer, although, somehow, I sense a miraculous healing or something in the future. It all just seems so forced.
Also, is it just me or is Adama a little on the crazy side since returning? Maybe its just that he didnt really get alot of screen time so Im just reading into it too much but he seemed decidedly off to me.
I liked this episode a lot. Moved ahead on the major plot threads in a satisfying way.
edit: The Roslin polt thread is still very unresolved though. Could say something interesting or get too obvious… At least with Starbuck returning to Galactica with the Arrow of Apollo, we’ll see if the prophecies are true or not. Not to mention the return of Helo and Boomer, finally. There has to be some fireworks there.
It so freaked me out when Adama was seemingly crying for Boomer, until I realized the man deserves a good cry, dammit. But it was still the most unnerving thing in the whole episode.
Something else I’ve been thinking about- and keep in mind, sometimes I’m a little slow on these things- The whole circle of it all: Humans create Cylons, who turn on them, Cylons eventually create humans, who may turn on them, i.e. Boomer. Sorry for the caveman speak, baby girl in my arms.

Unfortunately, I heard that in the U.K. the new season has been delayed until January 2006. SkyOne apparently bought a bunch of new programs from the US and are showing them in the fall. How this will effect Galactica with SciFi remains to be seen. SkyOne pays for a good part of the show, and SciFi won’t renew without them on board.

Apparently, SciFi is showing four more episodes, then the second half of the season starts in JANUARY. So basically we gotta wait three months before the season resumes, which is a hell of worse tease than having to wait for it to begin.
It starts to sound a little repetitive week after week, saying what a great episode this was, but again. I don’t mind that the technology on Kobol is both ancient and futuristic, its mystical. How it works is not that important to the story.
The only complaint I have is that it felt there was some important chunks missing from the ep, like what happened between the map room and the president’s speech. (like the cylon attack that they didn’t have time to shoot or show!)
Also I’m glad that Baltar let off some steam on Six. Her manipulations were getting a little outlandish. So is he just crazy or is he a cylon? Unlike the Kobol map room, I care about this sci-fi tidbit because it directly impacts on the character.
So has the second season stopped for a few months?
Ive been umm…acquiring the show online and it seems to have stopped. I read the post about it starting again in January…are they splitting up the season like that?
Why? What did we do wrong?

Well that was a “holy crap!” ending if I ever saw one. I guess this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of Lawless on the show.
I loved how the music for the documentary was the old Galactica theme, and how we saw the entire space battle from the bridge and fighter bay. Yeah, it was probably a good way to save some budget, but it was a great way to give us a look at what these people go through when the Vipers are in the air. And the documentary itself really drove home the stakes of the show – those people on Galactica are doing this for no pay and with the knowledge that there’s no relief coming, they’re IT.
And then the whole thing gets turned around at the end. Just brilliant.

Syndication means you’re not exclusive to a network…any network can buy you to air (although it’s usually not one of the Big Four, but local station affiliates, which means the air times vary wildly. I moved, and could never find Deep Space Nine, so I’ve only seen the first half of the series.)
Syndication used to be strictly the realm of shows that were no longer being produced, but had enough eps to be viable as repeats (Magnum PI, Three’s Company, friends, yadayada), but not anymore…many shows are 1st run syndication. The Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre is largely responsible for making that model work.
As for how the Sci-Fi Channel breaks up shows…this is normal, folks. They go for the ratings blocks (apparently, they’re skipping Nov, although usually they’ll cut us off in mid fall, show 2 new eps in Nov, then save the rest til Januaury). It is, unfortunately, a valid way to boost rating numbers, which allows them to charge more for commercials, which allows us to keep the shows.
As for last night’s episode…damn, we really are back to the quality and pacing of last year. And Lucy Lawness is practically unrecognizable…this is a meaty role for her to show she’s not just an action hero actress. I hope we get more of her.
