And this premiere as solidified this show as one of my all time favourites. Glad I caught up in time. And I managed to find the last webisode and download it minutes before the premiere. It wasn’t put online until about 8:30 or so tonight.

No, I got it too… I can only say, “best show ever”, after watching this premier.
This really is the best show on TV.
I kind of got the feeling that some of the parts that they showed with Roslin may have been flashbacks or something.
Still, I find it hard to believe that they’d kill both her and Zerek.
That whole ‘swirl’ Seinfeld reference seemed a little out of place though.

Stop that. This was okay tv, not really appointment tv for me, and it sucks that “Sciffy the retarded kangaroo” spoiled the great endiing with a crappy preview.

how does the resitance not know that Jammer is a cop when Duck was undercover as a cop but working for the resistance?
The only explanations I can come up with are:

They didn’t meet “as cops” until graduation.

The resistance does know, but they’re testing Jammer by not letting him know they know.

Bad writing?
2 seems pretty unlikely, so I guess it has to be 1… it just seemed a little weird. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Random other thoughts:
Is the little girl really Starbuck’s daughter? The fall seemed hyper-staged, could the girl just be another Cylon model? Of course, this is a tv show, so everything is kinda “staged.”
At the end, could the gun firing have been the Cylons shooting the human police? The Cylons could then say Baltar signed the order and was going to have the human police kill all these people, but look, Cylons to the rescue! That, or some of the human police can’t stand by and let it happen so they open fire on the Cylons. Or it is as it seems, and most/all of the prisoners die… wouldn’t put it past them, I guess.
Loved it. Thought it was ballsy, basically putting a human face on Iraqi insurgants. But not ballsy enough to have Starbuck kill a toddler, which is what I was hoping for. But regardless, I’m watching waaay too many shows right now, and this is hands down the best of the bunch.
The more I think about it, the more it seems you may be on to something with the cylon’s killing the cops. After all they did mention that there were about 200 police at one point, and Gaeta said there were 200 names on the list. Still, there weren’t 200 officers at the execution site, so we’ll see.
Other random thoughts:

I couldn’t stop laughing whenever fat Lee was on screen. His intro was the best/worst example of this.

The Kara stuff is one big mind-fuck. Not entirely sure whos fucking with who at this point though. Starbuck grabbing Leoben’s hand at the end seemed pretty deliberate on her part.

Adama and Sharon’s tea session also brought a smile to my face, as did Sharon getting sworn back in.

Sad to see Duck bite it, mostly as a result of the webisodes. Also confused as to how exactly Jammer managed to survive.
In any case, glad to have the show back in peak form. Certainly look forward to the inevitable rescue attempt by Adama. Should make for some good fireworks.

I’m going with 1, because Jammer seemed surprised to see Duck at the graduation ceremony.
I’m also going to bet that Zarek took the bullets for Roslyn, and that in the next episode the resistance members and the Galactica crew are going to find her under the pile of bodies by the road on their way back to the settlement.
Jesus. I just got into this show. After that premiere, I think I’m going to stay.
I loved how they went through with the whole suicide thing. I remember laughing loudly at how audicious the show’s runners are when the commercials hit right after Duck exploded. What a great idea.
My roommate brought up a good point – why didn’t the colonists settle by that nice little river instead of Mudville?
I just want to quickly say that that was two hours of fucking goddam good television right there. Holy shit, did I enjoy that. Subversive, thrilling, dramatic, suspenseful – just firing on all cylinders.
I was really surprised when I saw this was two hours.
One thing that keeps sticking in my mind is that Starbuck is playing this daughter angle up. Probably hoping to get out of the cell she is in so she can escape. I don’t believe for one second that this psycological stuff is working on her.
I also loved that the scene after she kills him and sits down to eat a huge Quiznos logo appears on the screen.
Until they came right out and said it was Gaeta, I thought there was a chance Baltar was the source, especially when he casually decides not to go to the graduation due to security reasons.
I loved Callie’s verbal smackdown on Boomer – “How many times do I have to kill you?” Great stuff.

I don’t know…here’s what I’m thinking. You have four months of intense psychological isolation, attempted emotional programming. Starbuck’s tough, but she has to be throwing everything she has to be this murderous, untouchable woman-of-steel. There can’t be anything left inside.
And then Leoben changes the equation, after all that time. And what’s worse, it takes advantage of something inside Kara. Kara has no idea that she’s a protector and a nurturer, but she is, and she forms fast attachments. She formed a life-bond with Anders after knowing him, what? A week or two? And there’s the ferocity with which she was trying to find antibiotics for him. This is a HUGE part of her that she’s not even aware of.
Now, you throw in the maternal equation. It’s fascinating to watch Kara before the kid gets hurt. She knows from the first moment. Watch the way that Kara is twirling at her hair when she’s alone with Casey. She’s upset and tense because she’s absolutely certain it’s not a lie. And that’s filling up that big emotional hole that’s been sitting there for four months, growing as she’s been away from her friends, her people, her husband.
And she cracks as soon as the kid does. So yeah, I buy it completely.
(Incidentally, I was kinda pissed that they ever introduced Boxey in the miniseries. Part of me wanted Leoben to walk in with her kid and say, Kara, I want you to meet your son, BOXEY. That would’ve been nicely fucked up.)
