I’m looking forward to Tigh’s story. He’s stealing the show so far this season. Having him put his own wife down is heavy business.
Zoic continues to blow my mind. Making the nebula look like clouds hurt my brain, but it was pretty. And the way the air rushed in to fill the gap left by Galactica’s jumping away should earn the effects guys a raise.
I imagine Six is not happy with Deanna walking off with Hera, despite Hera’s birth being part of some larger plan Six was originally in on.
Gaeta shouldn’t have too much trouble proving to Tigh that he was their man inside, assuming it’s Tigh he has to convince. He’ll walk free, but friends will be few and far between because his role of collaborator will be more widely known.
The New Caprica storyline has only fortified my love for Dean Stockwell. I’m looking forward to the next time he suggests executing Baltar or something.
I’ve been avoiding this thread like the plauge because I haven’t been able to watch the new season (they don’t show it on oz tv!) but I just watched the first four episodes.

That’s about as good as television can possibily get. Good to read some recent converts in the thread as well. Quality wins! I’ve been trying to put my friends onto this and usually they do give my suggestions a day in court at least, but this time no one is interested in even giving it a go.
Best show on TV, hands down. Nothing even comes close.
I have the same problem… usually people are willing to give my recs a go, but with Battlestar, hardly any luck. I know for a fact that some of my friends would totally enjoy the greatness of this show, but won’t be bothered to even give it a chance because it’s “all wizards and aliens” or “weirdo sci-fi stuff”.
No matter how hard I try to tell them it’s nothing of the sort, their eyes just kind of glaze over and they tune out.
It frustrates the HELL out of me, because I know they’d love it.
I wonder how much the resistence to watch is because of the association with the old show or just the title itself. Either way, non-watchers are truly missing out. I usually don’t care about awards but in this case, I think a major Emmy (or even Golden Globe) win is the only way for the show to finally reach a wide audience – which is important for those of us who want the show to continue for a while.
Anyone listen to the latest BSG podcast? Although I’m a bit turned off by Moore’s smug tone, there’s some really interesting information in it, especially regarding his original idea for the New Caprica rescue mission. Man, what they ended up with is sooooo much better than what he originally planned. And it’s interesting to hear about shots and scenes in “Exodus - Part 2” that are stolen from past and future (!) episodes.

I don’t think this show is in danger of getting canceled anytime soon. Isn’t this one of Sci-Fi’s highest rated show (I think Eureka is #1).

It’s also relatively expensive and at some point, Sci-Fi needs to stay in the black. So far, so good, and I think it’s great Sci-Fi has faith in the show but all of the scuttlebutt about possibly moving BSG to NBC sounds like someone, somewhere, is getting antsy about BSG’s meager ratings (comparitively-speaking, of course.)

I can see where your fears are coming from, but I honestly don’t see Sci-Fi having the balls to cancel the show. It’s a critical darling, has one of the most rabid fanbases this side of Firefly, and while it’s not the highest rated show, it’s not like Arrested Development where no one is watching the show. As long as people keep buying the DVDs or through iTunes, it should be fine. If cost were an issue, I don’t think they would’ve made the Resistance webisodes.

Yeah, it’s amazing how much that happens on BSG, too…one of the weird luxuries of having eps that consistently run long is that you have all this material to build character and flow in other eps.
It’s interesting that you feel that RDM comes off as smug. In a lot of the other podcasts, I’m surprised how much he’s willing to rip himself apart (the podcast for Black Market was especially revealing - he basically spends the podcast detailing why the episode failed, and that most of the failure was because of choices he fought tooth and nail for).
Its interesting that the cancellation issue has been raised, as I was going to bring that up myself. Its been a source of discussion over on other boards, and people seem genuinely concerned in regards to NBC cutbacks and meager ratings. Of course, most of those prophesizing the show’s imminent demise seem to have it out for the show, so they’re probably not worth listening to. Just curious as to what the more level headed individuals round these parts have to say/what they’ve heard. While I don’t want the show to overstay its welcome (did we really need 10 seasons of SG-1, let alone 1?), I definately don’t want to see it axed prematurely, as has been the case for many of my favorite shows over the past few years (Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development, etc.)
Well, Exodus Pt 2 was the lowest rated BSG ever in it’s initial airing. So people are a little nervous that what many are calling the pinnacle of the show is now the least watched Battlestar as far as Nielsen is concerned. I believe Moore is still fine-tuning the last three episodes, scriptwise, I’m not sure if they’re shooting them–but I wouldn’t mind if those were written to set up getting really close to Earth, and then wrapping up the season next year. 4 years is a good run. I know Moore’s gone on record as saying a 5 year run is what they’re feeling right now, but part of what made Season 1 so ridiculously good is that they packed a full 20 episode season into 13 episodes and made it lean and mean. The expansion to 20 episode seasons might have introduced a little bloat that the show would do better without.
I love the show to death, but honestly, there’s absolutely no reason for this story to last beyond 5 seasons. They have to get to Earth, they got a Map to Earth around the 7th Episode, eventually it’s just going to feel labored and artificial if they don’t make progress on that point soon. A continued ratings drop from week to week and dark times at NBC/Universal might help goose that along. I don’t think they’re gonna callously cut the strings, but I think if the season finale ends up with like, a 1.2 or whatever, they’re gonna give em one last season as a thank you, but not much more than that.

I’d be more than happy with the show ending after four seasons, even a truncated fourth season. I just want to see it get to a fourth season, so that Moore and co can wrap everything up in a satisfactory manner.
