One quick thought…anyone think Ellen is not dead? Think about it. Tigh knew they were either leaving, or going down in a blaze of glory trying to escape. Maybe he put her to sleep instead of killing her. If they escape (which they did of course) she will wake up in Cylon hands and probably be used as a Cylon fuck-toy from here on out. I wouldn’t put it past the writers for Ellen to be alive and kicking and stuck with Baltar on New Caprica.
One question I have…if the humans have escaped why Nuke the complex? They’re all either dead or gone (save Baltar). What purpose does it leave? There’s no way the humans are going back to New Caprica.
And I was thinking, one Pegasus for three Basestars is a pretty good trade for the Cylons. Obviously they have manufacturing plants to make as many more as they want, losing the three is no big loss. But the humans losing the most powerful and advanced battlestar is a huge loss.

They have quite a large budget, but according to RDM, they were *severely* in the hole after the first eps. They were able to get a lot more mileage by essentially shooting Exodus as one regular-length episode, then carefully massaging it into two. That’s pretty easy for them to do as they tend to run really long with their first cuts.
But yeah, Sci-Fi knows what they have in BSG, and have been incredibly supportive of it, financially and creatively. Go figure.

I thought of that as well, but after listening to the podcast, I kinda don’t think so. Apparently everyone was very emotional when Eick and RDM told Kate Vernon that Ellen was going to die, and that indicates a certain finality to it. And it’s fitting…in some ways, Ellen was the most quintessentially human character on the show. I’d sorta hate to see her pop up again, as much of a kick it would be to see her as a Humlon. At least, after this season. She went out with dignity and beauty, and a resurrection would cheapen it.

That part was pretty weakly put together, I think even Moore admits it in the podcast–but not all the humans have escaped at that point. The Cylons are still ON Colonial One when that decision is made, meaning Roslyn (Roslin? I’m still not sure of the spelling) and her crew at LEAST are still on the ground. Same with Tigh, because Tigh ends up disembarking from the same raptor that Gaeta does. So there’s still some humans on the ground, and some pretty important ones, when the decision to nuke the site is given.
As far as Tigh maybe having some tensions with Bill–I still think it was at least hinted at. The way they shot the hangar sequence, Saul is very, very alone in a crowded room full of jubilant people. He’s almost ghostly as he shambles to the back–the only person that notices him is Gaeta, and Gaeta damn near jumps up on the Raptor to get out of his way.
Plus, if the previews for next episode are any indication, it looks like Saul is probably heading up some real vigilante shit, and with Bill and Laura back in charge, I’m not entirely sure Bill’s going to approve of what Saul is doing, and I’m not sure Saul is going to give a fuck. He doesn’t have much right now, and what he has is sour and bitter. I know he’s very loyal to the Old Man, everything he did on Caprica, he did for the Old Man, but now that it’s done, he has nothing but time to reflect on that, and loyal or not, it’s gotta sting to be back not more than a minute only to have the reunion with Bill cut short by the people hoisting him up on their shoulders and trotting him around the hangar deck. They juxtaposed those two moments (Bill telling Saul HE did it/Everyone else telling Bill HE did it) for a reason, I think. Saul feels pretty fundamentally changed, to me.
I don’t think that Saul (or Kara) just slipping back into their old roles is going to happen–that’d essentially be a re-set, and these guys aren’t about re-sets. Some new dynamics amongst old friends will spring from this, and I think there’s a chance that tensions between Bill and Saul will be one of those.
Can’t say much that hasn’t already been said. I love this show, and just bought this episode on Itunes, cause I can’t wait until monday to see it again.
he only way that thought would ever even conceivably get there was through Ellen Tigh’s cooing, and that ship has sailed.
Another point I wanna address as far as Saul goes: I always saw it that while Ellen was a bad influence on Saul, while he was on the ship with both Bill and Ellen there, they sorta turned into the two angels on his shoulder. This is how I always read it: He was loyal to Bill, utterly, but he’s human–ambitious thoughts and hopes are going to bubble under. And Ellen tried to feed them. But I always read it that Ellen’s actually SPEAKING them out loud, in that shrill, annoying, harpie-like way that she used to, helped crystallize how UGLY that shit really is to Saul, and helped him to keep that shit under wraps. The only time he caved to it was when the Old Man was under at the beginning of season 2, and it all went disastrously.
But at some point, I think with Ellen gone, and his equilibrium all fucked from having gone through what he went through, those ugly thoughts might get fueled a little faster. I’m not saying Tigh is going to try and upend Adama’s command, nothing that serious, but I think at some point this season those two are going to have their first really serious falling out. He looks broken, to me, but broken things can be fixed, and on this show, they’re fixed under extreme moments of duress. I can see something like that happening at some point this season.
Well, they would nuke it because they could either disrupt the rescue attempt, kill any remaining humans OR just make inhabital in case the humans ever decided to return (this one is unlikely [in the sense that the humans would return] but you gotta cover all your bases).
The scene with Tigh poisoning Ellen was excellent.The way he held her and laid her down gently tied my stomach in knots. And the combat jump…FUCK YES ! I’m talking the Millennium Falcon to the rescue cool. Charge of the Rohirrim cool.
This show is in a whole other league than any other TV show I’ve ever seen. The EMMYs don’t deserve his show.

Well, as far as Gaeta knows, everyone in the Resistance considers him a collaborator. And Tigh, being the hardass that he is AND the head of the Resistance, hasn’t been known for playing nice.
It looks as though they got off the same Raptor (that Racetrack was piloting? It looked like 'Track helping people off), so who knows what the hell was said. Even if nothing, you kind of have to wonder what people were saying about Tigh and his suddenly missing wife.
Even if no one knew Ellen was poisoned, they’d know that she was dead, and that Tigh would be rather unstable because of it…
The hangar deck scene was great because so much was going on in the background. Especially with Gaeta and Tigh while the Adamas were hugging…
I LOVE this show SOOO much; this coming from someone who despised (yet watched) the original series…I’ve only caught a few of the episodes (of series 1 & 2) on TV, yet bought Miniseries, Series 1 and Sreies 2 on DVD…fucking LOVING it!!
For those of you also able to view the episodes, what would you advise for those outside the US as far as viewing episodes?
