God damn it! Just when I think that maybe the 24 writers will stretch themselves out a bit and try something new, they refuse to and just take the easy way instead. I liked the idea of Jack being in China and trying to escape from his captives. It didn’t even have to last for more than a few episodes, just keep Jack out of CTU. I’m tired of CTU and I welcomed the idea of it not being the base of operations. I don’t want to hear any more survelience data, I don’t want to hear of any more moles, and I don’t want to hear that phone ring. If they must, they could have Chole working her own spy store, but that’s it. Now the season is essentially going to be Jack upset over this attack and his leadership will be questioned. He’ll say he’s okay, but his bosses will doubt him. They’ll let him go out as a field agent, but he’ll have a boss. The boss will make a decision Jack doesn’t like and he’ll let him know. The higher ups won’t listen to him and try to have him detained. He’ll run off and do shit his own way, both trying to take down the bad guys and stay one step ahead of his bosses (one of which will be a mole).
I stuck by 24 for 4 seasons (I quit halfway through season 5 only to return for the season finale) and I think I can finally say that my addiction to the show is as dead as Tony *silent clock*.

He didn’t. Not only that, it wasn’t even clearly apparent right away that he had in fact died. It was god awful.
That’s what pissed me off most about Tony’s demise. The whole thing seemed calculated to piss off fans as much as possible. The elongated hospital stay, designed to amp up anticipation for his ass-kicking awakening, followed by a pathetically-written and performed death. It felt like a fuck-you to the people who’d been complaining about the show’s dip in quality-“don’t like the new characters and plots, huh? Let’s see how you like it when we kill off your precious Tony!”.

I guess the show is on an “Islamic bad guys for the even seasons” rule. That gets kind of old after a while. It’s not as fun watching Bauer take on villains who are so quick to kill themselves.
I do agree with the article that Penn’s role as Stanford in SUPERMAN RETURNS helps to prove he has no limits as an actor. Was the name Stanford said once in that movie?
I really can not believe this shit. How could a writer, or any creative force behind this show not get tired of the same old shit year after year? I mean really, it’s ridiculous. Season 5 ended with probably the best cliff hanger in the series, allowing for so many possibilities, but they’re going to go with the same god damn plot. Whoever said that they’re trying to make me lose interest in the show, I completely agree.

I think discussion dedicated to s single item of television news is fine. I know I’m not a moderator, but there’s not so much traffic on this sub-forum that it needs to be so heavily policed. The discussion would have died in a few days, at most, and dropped to the bottom is due time.
And further, I don’t know if it was you yesterday or not, but someone closed a topic I started, informing the tv forum posters about the increase in resolution to apple’s tv shows – and that was closed less than a minute later.
They really missed a golden opportunity without the Donald as Bauer’s dad, but you can never be dissatisfied with Cromwell. As for Izzard, well, will they let him be 24’s first intentionally funny character?

Yeah I agree about father sutherland, but who knows what the character is supposed to be like – I haven’t seen Donald play any part that isn’t mostly sedate, in the past five or ten years.
And RE; izzard, I sure hope so, although you’re discounting chloe, who has made me laugh once or twice.
But supposedly (spoiler)he is playing the equivalent of the lead-henchman, so it seems plausible.
I expect this season to start much like 3, 4 and 5; really great for the first 5 or so episodes and then crash and burn as the season progresses.
The news regarding Izzard is intriging, though. Just enough to possibly pull me in for another disaster.

I just watched the prequel for Season 5 and my God I was laughing my ass off. And then I watched episode 1 and I was laughing even harder. This show is the best comedy on TV.

Looks like a massive suicidebomber attack waves all over USofA and somehow Jack Bauer is brought back from China to save the day. Seems like the end of last season ist once again just ditched in a throwaway sentence to write of that cliffhanger without rammifications.
Though according to the trailer “there are people in this administration that want to tear the constitution apart”
