You know what? I just started watching the first season of Smallville and that’s exactly what I thought.

Except more charismatic. The producers of Smallville should consider bringing her on board when “Veronica” is canned.
The third episode was great IMO. Interesting both story-wise and visually.

That was a good twist. Did not see that one coming.
What happened on last night’s ep? I missed it while watching election covergae.
Fantastic episode. School elections. one of the “poor” kids runs and is threatening the rich kids way of life (specifically pirate points, a point system based on how involved kids are with activities giving them liberties like ordering lunch for delivery). Twists abound in the election. Duncan ends up running against her against his will, but has all the rich kids support to maintain their elitist ways.
Logan does a bum fight video that gets on smoking gun and gets his actor dad pissed (played by harry hamlin quite well). Interesting relationship with Logan and his Dad.
There is a break in the lily kane case…father and duaghter may start working together on it now…shoes recovered from the “killer’s” possession were different from Lily’s actual shoes.
Lily may have dated Weevil in the past (smaller point, but it made sense because Weevil was crying during that lily kane memorial a few episodes back).
Anyway, good show.

Here’s what happened:
School election takes place, Duncan wins depite not being clear favourite. Veronica investigates a possible rigged ballot.
Logan, Duncan’s prick of a best friend, organises an illegal boxing match between homeless people. The tape of the match winds up on the internet, causing big problems for his movie star dad.
And Veronica finds big evidence in the Lilly Kane case while going through old crime scene photos.
some good news veronica mars has been picked up for the entire season.
so was i reading too much into last night show? Veronica’s father’s comment about “it takes a big man to raise another man’s child” combined with the mysterious reason that Duncan dropped Veronica and the revelation that Veronica’s mother and Duncan’s father were high school sweathearts.
First time watching the show last night. I was recommended it, and it was entertaining. Probably will record it starting next week.

I think we’re meant to think that, but I honestly hope that’s not how it ends up. I can’t give a reason, I just don’t want it to be.
Very, very good news: the central mystery will be solved by the end of season 1. This is both a smart move, showing that they’ve learned from the mistakes of earlier shows, and a pretty brave one, since nervous execs are probably worried that people would stop tuning in without it (not that they have much to worry about. Nobody’s tuning in as it is). But I’m encouraged that we’re not going to get strung along for years and lose all interest in the story.
Not so good: they’re showing reruns of shows from a couple weeks ago, instead of going back to the pilot (which I missed). Stupidity.
the xmas episode was terrific. i can’t wait until the next new ep. it sucks how that won’t be for a few more weeks atleast.

I like how this show can surprise me. I was so wrapped up in the stalker story and poker story, so V confronting Jake came out of nowhere.
The one-liners in this show are as sharp as those on Buffy/Angel. More people need to watch this.
This show is really surprising me. It reminds me a lot of early Buffy, except I see Mars as more of a Dawn/Xander combo in a Buffy body. And that’s always a good thing.
And you got to love a show with a character named “Dick Casablancas”
The way I would pitch it to friends is that it takes the basic formula of Buffy–grafting genre elements onto high school stories (the genre in this case being noir PI mysteries), having the events of each episodic adventure reflect and comment on the character’s ongoing inner struggles–and puts the whole thing into a structure ripped off of Twin Peaks (ongoing murder mystery in a town that holds many secrets, which, come to think of it, is pretty basic noir stuff). But VM is a much more serious and dark show (and character) than Buffy. I think some of the people that hate Buffy might like VM. There’s insight to be gained on both characters by comparing them, eg. Buffy doesn’t choose to be Slayer, but Mars does “choose” to be girl detective, yet doesn’t seem to feel that it’s a choice, blablabla.
I’m glad they reran that one. I’d missed it while I was on vacation. I’m also glad the network seems to be putting as much effort into promoting it as they can. That was a good ep to try to win new viewers with. I thought the confrontation with Abel Whatsis was either overplayed or undersupported. Uncharacteristically bad writing, as if too anxious to get the plot devices moving.
I heard that in the next weeks they will be returning to “the rape plot.” Can anyone fill me in a little on this? I missed the pilot, and as far as I can tell they haven’t mentioned it since then. VM was roofied and raped, and she doesn’t know by whom, right? Does that fit in with the murder or any of the other plot points at all?

if i remember right, it’s been awhile since i’ve seen it, she was invited to a party after the murder, long enough after that her father was no longer the sheriff. she thought better of going but couldn’t resist the invite. someone spiked her drink and the next thing she wakes up in a bed the next moring. she has no idea who it was and it’s only been brought up in passing after that episode. i doubt very much it has anything to do with the murder (hoping so anyway. the town seems larger than to have the murder be then be all and end of everything that happens.)
and stop with the Buffy comparisons, there are other shows other there other than that one. i’d go with a female “Detective Conan” (“Case Closed” for the U.S. market) who wasn’t shrunk to kid size.
I’m kinda crushing on Tina Majorino now.
