The Decade in TV: Great Moments, Shows, and Other

* When Kimber loaned Sean a Realdoll created in her likeness, and then Sean had sex with it, and when Kimber came round to his house the next morning to pick it up he had forgotten to clean the cum out of it.

* Matt being alarmed to find that the post-op tranny he had picked up in a nightclub was actually a pre-op tranny, and savagely beating her.

-Many think it’s one of the weaker seasons of the show, but the final couple minutes of the penultimate episode of Season 2 of The Wire gave me goosebumps and had me rabidly awating the finale.

-Mike Kellerman getting shot in the face in the series premiere of The Shield…I did not see that coming

The Columbia disaster. I remember watching it start as local coverage of a routine shuttle landing, and the slow realization that something terrible had happened as it became a network story.

Also from the first episode of The Shield. Mackey walks into the interrogation room with a beat up paper bag and pulls out, a phone book, a box cutter and a bottle of whiskey.

Spooge’s death on Breaking Bad.

I have to third the ‘Thirteen’ scene from Rome and add the “I am a son of Hades, I fuck Concord is her ass!”

As for BSG I’d add the entirety of ‘33’ and the attack on the Cylon home base to the atmospheric drop.

‘Fuck’ from the Wire should of course be mentioned.

And Stewart’s “Fuck all y’all” in response to Palin’s speech about real Americans.

From THE SHIELD: Season 2 finale. With ‘Overcome’ by Live playing, Vic walks down and sees the huge pile of cash from the Money Train, and his look of greed quickly changes when he sees everyone else is shit-scared.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, last season finale:

Adama’s last big speech before they storm the Cylon baseship looking for Hera:

"Be under no illusions! This is likely to be a one way trip!!!"

Season 2: When they find the temple of Athena and see the stars the way they look from Earth. Adama’s wistful line about system M8: “That’s a long way from here.”" Although this is diminshed now that we realise the Earth they are talking about is a dead, nuked planet.
Also from Season 2, In THE FARM when Starbuck leaves Anders, thinking it’s probably the last time she’ll see him. Not realising he’s a Cylon.

Tons of others.

Jed Bartlet verbally destroying a Conservative Christian homophobe at a meet-and-greet.

Another one for Rome “Thirteen!”

“Criss Angel is a Douchebag” (episode title from Supernatural)

“Hi, I’m Johnny Knoxville and welcome to Jackass”

Saturday Night Live 1999-2000 thru 2002-2003

The last time it mattered. Show was still able to hit political commentary along with the goofy. Highlights: “More cowbell”. Will Ferrell patriotically wearing American flag speedos. Carvey as Bush I contemplating mercy killing W. after failing in attempt to talk about the responsibilities of the Presidency during a hunting trip.

“Chris, go fuck yourself” from the The Office finale.

Adam not avoiding the car bomb in the opener to series 6 of Spooks, what a great effect that was.

Also, the female agent, who had been set up as a major character, getting her head shoved in boiling oil and then shot early on in the first series of Spooks.

Tony Todd takes The White House (through an easily accessible sewer!) in season 7 of 24 and all of Jon Voight’s character, “Let’s play DARTS!”

All of The Wire, but Carver’s breakdown outside the kids home at the end of season 4 was gut wrenching and McNulty’s ‘funeral’ in season 5 was heartwarming in equal measure.

Pretty much every episode in the 6 series’ of Peep Show, has there been a more consistent comedy this decade?

Another vote for the last couple of minutes of the season 3 finale of Lost and all of the most recent season finale.

Bernard filling in his tax return in Black Books, “My mother’s maiden name?! I don’t even know her first name!”. Dylan Moran should be in more stuff.
Also the episode were Manny is ‘groomed’ by Omid Djiali’s beard fetishist, “I can give you your dreams, I can give you the whole MILKAAY WAY!”

Jed Bartlett literally walking to Congress and sitting on the bench and waiting in the hall while the Speaker of the House has no idea what to do about it.

Tracy running amok like a Jedi on 30’, the beginning of the meta.

  • Scrubs “My Screwup”
  • Buffy discovering Joyce on the couch.
  • “Smile Time”
  • That guy getting sucked into the jet engine during the opening moments of the Lost pilot.
  • Lee’s speech during the Trial of Baltar
  • I’ll second Saracens breakdown at the Taylors dinner table.
  • The Hot Cops busting George Michael for pot.
  • The British Office making me tear up with the help of a Yaz song.
  • Imaginationland

Charlize Theron’s character turning out to be mentally retarded on Arrested Development.

The racial draft.

Colbert/Stewart announcing the winner of the 2008 presidential elections.

Zidane headbutting Materazzi during the 2006 World Cup final.

The death of Doakes. He runs towards the gas tap in slo mo, mouthing MOTHER FUCKER (I love that that was his last line, so appropriate… hell, I bet Doakes’ mom would tell you those were his first words too). Then he’s blown to bits. As convenient as it was for plot purposes, it was still a great death scene. According to the imdb Erik King hasn’t done any acting since they killed his character off, which is just not right.
