My guess is still that the mind-control girl from V will command Homelander to off himself in some dramatic manner … like flying into the sun. It would be a perfect riff on one of the greatest scenes in the comic book series that The Boys most draws its inspiration from (other than the actual The Boys comics).
I predict that Butcher won’t respect whichever dude is in charge, Hughie will be whiny, Starlight will be terrible to Hughie, Butcher will be made leader and fired again and The Boys themselves will spend about 20 minutes total as a cohesive group. Homelander will do something terribly Trumplike and be cheered for it.
Trailer shows at least 2 characters that I don’t recognize, so new blood is a good thing.
As someone who doesn’t read or care if they follow comics, I’m all for any ending they give us.
Homelander losing his powers and getting his ass beaten to a pulp by a mob of angry anti-Homelander activists would be hysterical.
Considering that Amazon is already planning on having spin-off series in this universe, I’m guessing that at least a few key characters will survive the season.

The currently announced spin-offs are a prequel, and a latino-focused story.
I’m sure most of the cast will survive the season, but there’s no current spin-off that would have much use for them.
Butcher and Homelander are the only two I’m pretty sure are dust. Homelander because Kripke’s not a nihilist, and Butcher’s been terminal for at least a couple seasons now, and his arc pretty naturally ends with him dying to kill Homelander.
My guess would be that Deep gets a fittingly pathetic death, and one more of the heroes buys it… I’ll guess Frenchie, but that could be my own hope sneaking in.
The rest I’ll guess get a combination of happy and bittersweet endings. Firecracker seems more deserving of living with disgrace and shame. Hughie and Starlight should be safe. I could see Vought ending up in the hands of Esposito and Sage.

I gotta give it to this show for getting seasons out on a regular basis (especially factoring in the pandemic). If it was on Netflix or Apple, they might’ve gotten to a third season by 2027.
And they’re all pretty good, too. Not perfect. But IMNSHO there’s not a bad season of the show.
(I’d concede Season 4 felt very wheel-spinny and was the weakest thus far. But it wasn’t outright bad.)
Can’t wait for this.

Serious question: if Trump hadn’t happensd, would they have written Homelander differently?

My guess is that Trump influences were in the details (such as having a Nazi girlfriend). If you’re positing Evil Superman takes over the country, my guess is the broad strokes are going to be the same.
But this is also based on a preexisting comic book, which was entirely written and published pre-Trump. So again, my guess is that invulnerable autocrat taking power would have the same basic trajectory, and clear/intended references to Trump are in the details.
The Boys universe is doing this weird thing where Homelander is a stand in for Trump BUT MAGA still exists somehow. I don’t know remember if the main show addressed it but the Gen V had the one rapist character mention Maga. DETAILS BOTHER ME.
I saw a clip of the showrunner say they weren’t trying to copy Trump this season but rather general fascism saying they wrote or had the story of the season done before the election. Not sure I buy that.
