The Alex Jones thread: Because it's time

“Bring out the 15 hookers and the drugs” sweet sign me up I want to be a globalist

AOne of my personal heros is a dude here in Austin named Charlie Sotelo. Back in the day he hosted a public access show called The Show With No Name, whee he just showed different oddball clips that now days you would find on YouTube. Harrison Ford on Letterman promoting Blade Runner. Uncle Goddamn. Charlie’s Manson Geraldo interview. That kind of thing. It was a great show. But that’s not why he’s my hero. He’s my hero because back when Alex Jones was doing his show on public access at the same time, they got into some sort of argument at the public access parking lot and Sotelo straight up punched the fool. That is why he has always been one of my heros. I don’t even know what the fuck the altercation was about. I don’t care. I’m just glad he punched this powdered water selling motherfucker in the face.

AI found out recently that Alex Jones is younger than me. That boggled my mind.

Hell yes. Allegedly anyway. I saw that back in Jon Ronson’s thing before he was really big and his wife/marketing director is giving this speal about how much audience he has built on his own, which is a lot for someone of 28.

And I was like “You fuckin’ what?”

Apparently he has always been your 45 year old overweight crazy uncle who sounds like he has lived on a solid diet of whiskey and cigars for twenty years.

How his mum gave birth to that I don’t even know.

ARationalwiki’s article on Alex Jones is some of their finest work, due in no small part to the enormous archive of Jones material they have to work with and link to.

AI only recently learned that Jones was in Waking Life!

AHe needed another thread about Bill Hicks. It’s been too long since we talked about him

Almost every conservative I know over the age of 35 has never heard of Jones (not exactly a scientific study, I know), so they usually wave off any idea that he’s influential when I bring him up. But I know a lot of conservatives, and many of the younger guys who grew up on the Internet think Jones is one of the only truth-tellers out there.

I used to just laugh at Jones. Yeah, I knew people who thought he was truthful, but my assumption was that his worldview would never reach the mainstream. But Trump has appeared on Jones’ show and even called to thank him after the election. The Republican Party has allowed Jones to become mainstream, even if his conservative credentials are in question. Hell, we just saw today that Breitbart’s Milo Yiannoupolus is going to be the keynote speaker at CPAC, despite being wary of his own conservatism.

The party is playing a dangerous game on many fronts, and this is one of them. The infotainment industry of conservatism (or however it’s defined nowadays by Jones and whatnot) is clearly winning right now. If Trump starts tweeting out that people should get their news from InfoWars, that’s a “get the toothpaste back in the tube” situation.

I don’t know why he needs a thread devoted to him outside of the fact that Trump may occasionally parrot some of the wonky bullshit that comes out of his mouth and we already have the Trumpocalypse thread for that, but okay then. If this thread keeps him from coming up in other places, I guess I’ll have to take that as a “win” for my sanity.

For a half second, before I found out who he was, I thought he was an interesting presence based on that scene and his rant in A Scanner Darkly.

He was great in that! Bullhorn and all.

AThat was Alex Jones in a Scanner Darkly? Wow.

He is an interesting presence. What he is not is a credible source of news, political analysis or rational thought.

I like checking out conspiracy theories from time to time, and always assumed Jones would be a “power to the people”, “down with the powers that be” kind of guy, which is what makes his pro Trump, anti protester stance so strange.

I suspect Linklater gave him those cameos as just a local oddball “personality” in Austin. Until this past election, those appearances were my only exposure to the guy. (Too bad I couldn’t have kept it that way.)

Nope. He may have started as that back in his public access days. But now he is straight up conspiracy theory, throw everything against the wall, and see if anything sticks, pander to the gullible and mentally ill if it makes me an extra buck kind of guy. He is the worst kind of bottom feeding shit sipper around.

AWill any of you admit that Pizzagate is starting to seem kind of fucked up?

I’ve yet to see anything to suggest there’s any more substance to pizzagate than there was to climategate. But by all means thrill me.

Please clarify this.

AWhat is pizza gate? This is a new one for me
