Great great great premiere. I forgot how friggin deep the characters got in only one season. There were some great laughs in this episode as well. That opening dream sequence was quite effective at establishing the hell that Tommy is living in…and that final scene with the lighter was chock full of tension and deeper meaning (franco getting burned because of tommy, the whole firefighter motif, the idea of alcohol taking everything tommy loves, etc etc.)

F/X does not skip a beat! Good stuff last night, I loved the bit with Tommy and his lawyer cousin and the whole “ultra and mega” argument. I also liked seeing Lee Tergenson from “Oz” show up as Tommy’s replacement, I can only imagine how they’re gonna get rid of him. Interesting how quickly they’ve had Tommy’s other cousin, the ROBOCOP 3 guy, leave the priesthood.
But last night was all about Leary. His performance only strengthened my opinion that he would make a great Joker.

Ok, so let me get this straight…Tommy’s original brother is replaced halfway through the season by Jack Bauer’s handless protege and daughter fucker…who is then replaced the start of this season by the original guy? What the fuck? Anyway, good episode. The whole season looks pretty damn good. Oh, and new comedy on F/X in August…Starved, was it? Looks like they could be staggering their shows. Over There starting in July, partway through Rescue Me. I’m guessing Rescue ends in August, the next week being Starved. Over ends in Sept, with Nip/tuck next and I suppose Thief after Starved. I don’t know, just an idea.
FX is slowly becoming my favorite channel. Their original programming is top notch. I only wish Leary would’ve started The Job on FX. When the hell is Thief coming on?

Dave…as far as we can figure I believe Tommy has TWO brothers. we first saw this current season 2 brother early in season 1, and then chase showed up playing pretty much the same role, but I think there was a throwaway reference to the “other” cop brother or osmething lazy like that.
Either way, its confusing.
Thief is PROBABLY coming this fall around the time Nip/Tuck premieres.

James Badge Dale (aka chase) played "Timo Gavin: in the latter half of season 1.
I want to know when Tommy’s degenerate uncle is coming back, and if he’s still hanging out with his little horse racing friend.
Loved the series opener as well. This season looks like its full of promise and you just know for every step Tommy makes forward, he’ll make a step back as well. The ultra/mega conversation had me cracking up as well.
And there we have it. Thanks, Fazer. It seemed weird last year when I saw it and thanks to no subtitles on the DVD, I still couldn’t tell whether they were supposed to be the same brother or not.
I didn’t watch the first season, and it was nice to see this episode recap some of the things that I read about last season.
Great episode; the surreal moments really added to the emotion of the episode overall.
L7 you really should get a hold of the DVDs of season 1. If you liked this premiere, you will love the shenanigans Tommy (and his family for that matter) gets into. There is also a very strong dramatic thread running through all the main characters. Its pretty amazing how the show juggles so many characters and manages to keep them all somewhat 3 dimensional.
No doubt. It’s just a matter of financial issues at this time. I was hoping to catch the reruns, but with moving and all, my TiVo was down and out until now.

What a fantastic season opener! Leary has Tommy’s assholishness down to a science. Kudos to the producers for bringing Dean Winters back as Tommy’s brother, as well as Oz alum Lee Tergesen in as Sully, the new guy. From Tommy’s antics to Mickey’s leaving the priesthood to Mike’s breakup with his hefty girlfriend, it’ll be interesting to see how things progress this season.

According to the IMDb, Starved premieres August 4th and Thief is slated to premiere in November.
I loved it when Mike kicked those bags of trash after his girlfriend told him not to come in. He sent one of them flying almost.
what a shitty episode… in a good way. No one seems to be havin’ that great 'a time anymore! Tommy’s wife is basically running from him, he’s stuck with a pregnant widow he’s not in love with, Mike’s losing it after getting dumped, Reilly’s wife is getting worse. And to top it off, Uncle Ted has disappeared!
These characters are so freakin’ rich and deep. I can’t get over how realistic their problems are portrayed. Rescue Me is up there with Six Feet Under and The West Wing as one of the best show of the past 10 or 15 years.
Agreed, I like how tonight’s show fleshed out more of the other characters and their troubles. Though leaving me hanging as to the fate of Uncle Teddy is not cool. The “Say Uncle” fight was a great moment so was Leary’s line about a “Reverse Nike ad,” which was funny to me because of the Nike ads he did long ago. The cop’s remark about the difference between Irish and Jewish guilt was nice, but the best line had to be:
"Do me a favor, you ever see me on the ferry shoot me in the goddamn head.
I’m really excited to have this show back on the air, I was pleasantly surprised at how into I got last summer. First two episodes have gotten me right back in the swing of things.
I loved the premiere. I bought season one the other day and I’m rewatching some it now. I love this show. And I can’t wait for the girl who plays Leary’s oldest daughter to show up again…
I watched an episode last night and I havent seen any of it before.
Even without knowing any back story on any character I can say this show is hilarious… I’ll be adding this to my DVR recordings
Have Watched Both Episodes so far this season and they have been great.
The side story with the Barbershop Quartet was hilarious.
