Last night was the season premiere on Bravo. Anyway watch last year and is planning on watching this year?
Yeah, its a reality show about fashion but it is actually very entertaining and fascinating to watch. For a “reality game show” contestants progress through merit rather than backstabbing (although plenty of that happens too).
I’ve never been someone in to watch fashion shows or the like but I find it fascinating to see these hopefuls create such a wide array of clothes in such a short time. Last night’s challenge? Create a new outfit from the clothes they were wearing.
I’m ashamed to say I do watch this show and greatly enjoy it.
Last night’s was pretty solid, but I didn’t realize it was 2 one hour episodes so my Tivo became angry and went silent. Thus, I mssed part of the second hour.
Interesting bunch for the final five. Funny through the season my opinions of various designers have changed. Santino? Really become one note. All his dresses look the same. Waistline high. Bodice extremely decorated. Short skirt.
Andre? Went from the untalented annoying crybaby, to the talented annoying crybaby. I would have preferred he stayed.
Chloe? Solid throughout. I want her to make it the to final three.
Daniel? Also solid, but not the biggest fan of his designs.
Cara? Has shown some improvement, but boring overall. I hope she gets the ax soon.
Nick? Entertaining to watch. Has talent, but not sure if can pull off a complete show.
Going into last night’s episode I was hoping that Cara or Santino would be out tonight. Instead they both got passed through to the next round and Andre was “out.”
Great season. I hope it’s doing well in the ratings as I would hate for this to be the last season.
I really like this show. Nick has really surprised me, but he’s got to pull out some punches in order to stay on top.
Cara deserved to be out 4 episodes ago. Should not be up there with the others.
Santino has become sort of a laughing stock, and I really want him to quit his little rolling of the eyes everytime someone has a problem with his designs. He’s really talented, but it’s time for him to roll with the punches.
Andre really needed to stay. Brought some interesting stuff to the table.
I like Daniel, but it seems he’s been sitting in the corner, quiet and comfortable with his work. Needs to really start pushing the envelope.
You guys are crazy. Daniel is the front runner right now with 4 wins. Nick’s designs, while cool to look at, aren’t really functional dresses for women. Chloe makes the top three definitely. Santino is in the running for the last spot, but Nick could slide in there if he can tame his “vulgarity”. Cara should thank her lucky stars she made it this far, but there is no way she should make the final three.
I’m not denying that Daniel is a frontrunner. I even said he has been solid, but I just don’t care for his designs. Half the time he won, I think someone else should have (off the top of my head the “inspiration” challenge should have gone to Andre. Overall, I like Chloe better than Daniel (but once again that’s just personal preference).
It’s Nick (or Andre, sadly no more) for me at this point unless Daniel can open up in terms of his designs. Like I said, it just feels like he’s a silent frontrunner when he needs to be a little more “loud” with what he’s doing in order to convince me.
The contest isn’t about who’s the loudest. It’s who can create designs that are creative yet also wearable. Daniel’s dresses have been consistently both. On top of that, in order to get your designs picked up by a distributer, you have to be able to articulate your creative vision. Neither Andre nor Nick can do that.
But I agree that the “inspiration” challenge should have gone to Andre. Again, looking at both creativity and the ability to wear what was made, Andre’s dress fit the bill. While Daniel’s dress was very creative, I can’t imagine any regular woman wearing that.
*whispers to Diva* I haven’t disagreed with any of your statements, just asserted that I don’t care for Daniel’s designs (which isn’t to say that he isn’t talented or that he hasn’t been meeting the judges criteria, just that I don’t care for the designs).
When I look at Chloe’s body of work and compare it with Daniel’s, ultimately I think she imbodies creative and wearable to a better degree than Daniel. My roommate Helen constantly says she wishes she was back in Houston and she would go check out Chloe’s shop. Every women that I have spoken with about the show all state that Chloe’s dresses are something they would wear, Daniel’s dresses? Nice to look at.
Edited to add:. I think I forgot to mention, but I loved Santino’s impression of Tim Gunn. Funny, funny, funny stuff. That’s Santino’s draw, I guess. He’s entertaining to watch.
Just started watching this show with the wife. Have to say, Chloe’s dress last show was the most interesting. She worked her ass off. Came up with something original and cool looking. Actually, Cara’s was great too. But, the girls can’t beat the boys - rule #1 on that show. I guess it also helped that Daniel used flowers! Whatever.
And, as my wife pointed out, Santino’s still on because he makes the reality bits entertaining. His impression of Tim alone makes the show worth watching for me.
I’m not talking in terms of what is out there, but what appeals to me the most. I can see the appeal of Daniel, but since the beginning Nick seems to have a vision of what he wants and has gone with it. Maybe it’s because it’s a little more outspoken and seems to get more time onscreen than Daniel.
If Daniel were to win, I’m not going to cry about it.
I’m not dismissing anyone’s preferences. Just stating what the judges are looking for and that the people who are the front runners are there for a reason. Chloe’s dresses are definitely the most wearable, but for me, Daniel’s are pretty wearable as well.
I love this dress by Daniel and Andre. I would buy immediately it if it were available.
The “Inspiration” dresses went up for auction as well and Andrae’s dress was the highest seller. Someone bought it for $760. Daniel’s went for $712. The next highest selling dress was Chloe’s, which went for $300 less than Daniel and Andrae’s dresses.
The Project Runway website is really cool. I just read “Tim’s Take,” where he blogs about each show. He said that the judges are not privy to what the designers are doing prior to the runway and that in the last challenge the reason no one used flowers is that they couldn’t afford it. $100 just wasn’t enough money. Tim wrote he “wanted to call out from my folding chair in the back recesses of the room, ‘You can’t expect the Tournament of Roses for $100!’”
Heartbeat Hoodie explores the idea of involuntarily documenting parts of life using a camera to take photographs at moments of interest or excitement. The camera, strategically placed above the eyes on the hoodie, takes photographs as the wearer’s heart rate increases. The camera is wired discreetly through the seeming of the garment to a basic stamp that communicates with a wireless heart rate monitor. The basic stamp uses an algorithm to analyze the heartbeat for increases that might signify a moment of excitement or interest as opposed to physical exercise. At the end of the day, you can reflect on moments that caused interest and excitement by viewing the photographs. Since the photographs are taken involuntarily, you may find new points of interest that you were not conscious of.
If it’s anything like last year, the dress went on sale with the new line. I believe they used Wendy Pepper’s design last year, which was, admittedly, a pretty great design. It was a navy blue dress with an attractive capelet (sp?) attached. I nearly bought it for a girl I was dating, but thank God I didn’t seeing as it was very expensive for a poor college student, and she cheating on me.
