PROJECT RUNWAY Season 2 on BRAVO

Noooooooooo. Nick is “out.” I couldn’t believe it. Santino’s outfit for Cara was horrible. Way worse than what Nick did for Daniel. What on earth were the judge’s thinking?

I hate to see Cara in the final three, but I would prefer her over Santino.

God-dammit. So pissed. Santino did a horrible job in this task.

Diva,

I’m not sure if you can get into this event or not BUT the Project Runway Olympus Fashion Show is tomorrow at 9 am.

Also, I think this website will be showing the various shows live on their website (so maybe a peak at the final three).

I know since I can’t see it live and in person, I don’t want to spoil myself but thought you might be interested…

It’s sad to see Nick go, but his suit was awful. Seriously, think about it. There were no buttons or pockets on either the jacket or pants! I loved the color and the fit was great, however the fabric and lack of functionality was too much to overcome.

Was his suit worse than Santino’s? I don’t know. Jump suits aren’t really that out of place here in NYC. The big issues for me were the fit (it clearly looked uncomfortable to wear) and the fact that it was unfinished (you would think that would be an automatic out)! I’m guessing that the judges see potential in Santino. He is talented, creative and has an eye for color, fabric, and design. On the other hand, while Nick is a great taylor and has a creative sensibility, he just seems unable to make clothing appropriate for his subjects.

Honestly, I don’t know what judgement call I would make personally. The fact that Santino’s outfit was unfinished would have definitely been a huge factor against him. But at the same time, I can see how Santino has been taking the judges criticisms of his work and attempting to address them, whereas Nick seems unable to do so.

I’m pulling for Chloe to win it all!

On a completely unrelated note, the show dubbed Heidi’s voice for 90% of the elimination segment. It was very obviously edited and pulled me out of the the proceedings, reducing most of the dramatic tension I was feeling.

Santino wouldn’t have a problem getting work if he had gotten cut, I think.

Bye bye Kara.

It was very annoying to hear Santino’s critique of Daniel and Chloe’s work echoed by the judges (boring, simple and safe). Which isn’t to say that it wasn’t true, just annoying all the same. Hard choice if I was a judge though. Kara, Chloe and Daniel all had boring dresses.

At least Santino got the point of the exercise (unfortunately he’s still stuck on the more is better look).

I’m looking forward to the bitching episode next week. If I remember correctly, the finale last year was shown in 2 parts? First hour was showing what the 3 finalists did during their time off to build their collection and the the final hour was the runway show and final judging.

Good to see Kara gone.

And yes, I do believe it was a two hour finale last time around.

The reunion show was pretty entertaining. The musical numbers, more of Santino impersonating Tim Gunn, Daniel Franco’s declaration of love to Heidi (how awkward and flat was that?) and the uncomfortable silences when having to face their competitors after watching hearing some of the nasty comments made in the interview process.

Project Jay was entertaining to watch too. Felt bad that Jay got screwed by Heidi with the Emmy dress (but damn, if that dress didn’t look good).

I don’t know if this is officially sanctioned from the show or not, but here’s some CafePress shirts with some of this seasons various sayings…

Man… that one designer was WASTED.

Nope. This is the official site to buy Project Runway gear: http://projectrunway.shopthescene.com/

I’ve caught one episode of this show, and I must say I am stunned. Is this show at all indicative of the fashion industry?

I saw an evening gown competition, and two of the four designs were unwearable, with one of them being an ugly gold concoction with gold sequins randomly sewn all over it. It looked abhorrent. Yet, that designer stayed.

I hear a lot of pretentious nonsense like “editorial style”, “vision”, “statement”, but what I’m looking at is a bunch of preening morons who don’t produce good looking clothes. Clothes are designed to hide one’s nakedness, and hopefully be aesthetically appealing. Part of this show was a flashback montage, and uniformly the designs were either ugly, unwearable, or otherwise forgettable.

There was one great, gorgeous gown produced (dark blue with beautiful cross-strapping in the back), and what did everyone say? It was “boring”, and had “nothing to say”. It’s clothes, dammit! That person eventually won that contest, which left me befuddled.

One of the more perplexing t.v. viewing experiences of my life, and one that left me wondering just how clueless the fashion world is.

I think your opinion would be a little different if you had seen the entire season. The people that created unwearable stuff really got reamed most of the time.

There were alot of unwearable outfits designed this season (particularly in comparison to season 1), however I do think the episode in question is a tough one to form an opinion around. It’s toward the end of the competition and people really needed to stand out in order to move on. Santino’s gypsy dress is unwearable, but he tried to create something no other designer could make. And while Daniel’s dress was wearable and the prettiest one on the runway (he deserved the win), he failed to differentiate himself from the multitude of designers working in the fashion industry today, much less the other designers on Project Runway. I could go to Macy’s and find a dress just like his hanging on the rack. That said, I think Daniel’s gonna win the show.

I agree. Santino was really the only one that stuck to his regular style for that particular round. Everyone had just gotten slammed for the previous round and were on their heels the entire time. Daniel played it safe, yes, but I still liked this dress.

It’s really a toss up for me in terms of who wins the prize. Santino could really surprise me and Chloe could possibly have a strong enough set to win me over. Daniel’s always been a favorite of mine but I get the feeling he’s going to disappoint.

As far as its reflection on the fashion industry as a whole, I really have no idea. But if you look at a lot of collections and a lot of shows (particularly the European), the off the runway wearability is played down for an emphasis on a certain theme, ie flow or color contrast. The off-the-rack collections are then toned down and brought to a good point of functionality for off-the-rack wear. Of course so often the European collections seem so unbelievable because we’re a few seasons behind. But once the actual trends hit the US, it can be scary . . .

Isn’t the idea that a dress is hanging on the rack at Macy’s a pretty good indication that the designer may have been pretty good? Hell, isn’t that a great compliment to give someone: “your work is good enough that I could see it at major department stores”.

I’m not saying you should copy someone else’s design, but this idea that “no one must have done it before” for it to be worthwhile is preposterous. But, again, I just saw the one show.

I’m sorry, but when one of the four finalists of a show produces a dress with an uneven, frayed hem that has to be sewn onto the model, and another finalist produces a mardi gras costume that looks like a golden feather duster, I have to think that either the show or the entire industry is absolutely ridiculous. Daniel’s dress was gorgeous, and something I could imagine a young starlet walking down the aisle in. And what did he get? Lambasted for being dull. I just don’t get it…but, I did only see the one episode.

However, you could fit what I know about the fashion in a one page leaflet.

Is it me, or were the editors really kind to Santino this week? Just not very flattering to Chloe and Daniels designs; however, they kept on showing Santino’s pleated dress (which looks fantastic).

Overall, I was kind of put off by this episode, because we still have no idea of what their collections are really about (much less what the collections really look like other than one dress in each collection).

Which, by the way, what was up with Chloe’s dress that we saw? She usually tailors very specifically towards women and that one dress looked very puffy and unflattering.

A fluff episode, I must say. And I will agree that I thought the editors were being kind to Santino’s designs.

Wearability is important, hence Daniel won the competition (and several others throughout the season as well). But at the same time, the show is about finding the “next great fashion designer.” The fashion industry is very fickle and clothing trends come and go. The industry is all about what’s going to be the next big fashion trend, so designers need to look past what is hot now and design clothes that will be huge next season. While Daniel has a lot of potential, I think the judges want to see Daniel push himself to be a trendsetter as opposed to being really good at the current trends.

Santino played the “pity” card blaming everyone but himself for how he was portrayed on the show. To a certain degree I’m sure the editors wanted another Wendy Pepper, but at the same time the show can’t air what wasn’t said. My favorite part was after proclaiming that he wasn’t as mean as they portrayed him, Santino looked straight into the camera and continued to badmouth Chloe and Daniel. He’ll never learn.
