Micah, you damn well better be watching… (See, for those of you out of the loop, Micah and I were the only two souls in all of creation* who not only saw the entire run of this show, but saw both movies in the theater.)
Okay, they do two seasons, and Miramax takes a bath on both. (The revenue from the show and the placement will be left out of this equation.) They do a third, and Ben and Matt are struck that Dimension actually wants to recoup on this? They had to know going in that if Dimension is going to put up a hell of a lot more money this time (Is $12 million what I heard?), they’re expecting some of that shit back this time around.
The script seems weak (and Matt Damon sure as hell hates it), but it’s a monster movie, what can you do? The choice of director floored me, though. The guy seems to have talent coming out of his ears, but don’t directors come in to their eccentricity phase after they’ve made at least one film? Playing fast and loose with a script is one thing, but is this guy going to “sit in the bathtub” instead of coming to set? But fair is fair and I know that they edit the shit out of Greenlight to be more palatable to the common man. So we’ll let that play out.
Finally, I heard this phrase during the writers’ interview:

Having not read it, I can say that I’ve read a better road house horror script. Trust me on this.
I think it’s another recipe for disaster. There’s nothing wrong with giving a rookie scribe or director a chance at a major film, but why stack so many cards against them?
Dimension will lowball the budget to be sure
Dimension won’t let them cast who they want to cast.
The shooting schedule is going to be fast as hell.
The low-budget horror market - though healthy and extremely profitable, even for crap films - is focused on PSYCHOLOGICAL horror (e.g. Ring, Grudge, Boogeyman, Saw) terrorizing one or two stars, not cheesy-monsters-attacking-a-group-of-generic-people-stranded-somewhere films (e.g. Jeepers Creepers 2, House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark).
Which group of those films would you rather have your project’s box office turn out like?
I’m rooting for the winners, but I think they’re doomed to the same fate of Pete Jones and Rankin/Potelle.

Actually I’m upset they’ve moved it from HBO to Bravo because I had Bravo and not HBO. But now that I have HBO (three channels of it!) I have no Bravo. So it’s off to btefnet.net for me…
Once again, mandatory riveting television. This one episode tells you everything you need to know about Dimension Films. How about those idiots that submitted a special-effects heavy script with 20 characters as a $2 million film? And how about the idiots that chose it? When the director of “Shocker” and “The People Under The Stairs” says the script isn’t good, look out!
Methinks this will be the last Greenlight that Damon and Affleck participate in.
The director they chose looks like a world-class headache, too. This should be interesting.
In all the promo stuff I’ve seen about this show, Craven gets billed with Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. Not one fucking peep about Cursed, his new movie that has been out for two weeks. I guess they’ve marked that one off as a loss already.
I believe they said 2 million budget but said Feast is more like 12 but Dimension won’t budge.
I would have loved to see the entire script fight with Damon and the Dimension guys. I’m sure there is footage of him trying to get out of his contract.
Was it my imagination, or did Damon refer to Wes Craven as “the master of horror”? Am I missing something? When did this happen? Last time I checked, he was still making shitty movies.
Additionally, this is a train wreck in the making, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun to watch everyone make these decisions that are certainly going to come back to bite them hard.
The director they chose seems to be talented, but with no verbal skills to back up a vision inside of that head of his, well, they’re all fucked. Maybe he can pull something out.
Also I cannot wait to see what happens to the two writers, especially when Dimension tells them to either write a better draft, or hardball time, when they can and will be replaced. I’m sure they were thinking “cakewake/slip-n-slide!” as I believe one of them said, which I knew was coming back to pummel him into submission.

I’m almost there – slavishly watched both seasons, but could only catch “Shaker Heights” in the theater. “Stolen Summer” never got here. Actually, still haven’t seen that one, though it keeps catching my eye on the rental shelf. Oughta do that sometime, finally.
Just did an imdb on Pete Jones, and turns out he HAS Worked again. Put out a movie last year, “Outing Riley.” “Bobby, the youngest boy in an Irish Catholic family, is gay and his coming out to his brothers and the family’s way of dealing with the news is the basis of this film.” Pete plays Bobby! Who knows, probably horrible, but good for him to keep plugging away. …Maybe. I dunno, he seems like such a nice guy, hate to tell him to just STOP.
At least it looks like his friends and family are treating him well on the imdb ratings . “From what I’ve seen- there’s nothing like this movie ANYWHERE!!! It’s raw, powerful and hilarious. Director Pete Jones takes risks here- no compromises! He lets it ALL hang out! He draws upon deep personal stuff here from his youth. This is the type of material that you need to see to believe and then you still don’t believe it so you have to see it again and again and again!”

As for “Feast,” yeesh. This has less chance than the last two seasons combined. Poor Gulager may have a great eye and a sense for editing, but he’s just going to get bullied left and right until he has a breakdown. I can see him saying nothing, and nothing, and nothing, then snapping on the set. This’ll end up being a producer-directed movie. I can the see the writer team ganging up on him hard, if the prods don’t hold them back (or beat them to it).
At least with all the technical issues of a gore movie there’ll be more interesting hassles to watch this season than just shot sheets, bad weather and trying to “make the day.” Looking forward to this season! Remember the wise words of Stephen King, Gulager: Go for true Horror; but where you can’t get the Horror, go for the Terror; and where you can’t get the Terror, go for the Gross-Out.
Well, if you don’t mind being spoiled, the cast list for Feast is already up on IMDB. There’s at least two or three somewhat interesting names. On a side note, the big surprise to me is that Gulager is the son of Clu.
I think John Gulager is getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the shows editing. There is no way that he can’t be saying ANYTHING the first week of pre production.
What is wrong with casting your family in a movie anyway? It would sure cut the budget.

but seriously… after 3 seasons, I don’t understand why these “talented” newcomers feel like they can run the show… and make the demands they try to make… whatever happened to kissing some ass?
“I don’t feel like this is my movie anymore”… hmm, it’s not… you are being paid to make it by a studio… do it… why can’t they accept the fact that until they are established in “the business” .. decisions are rarely left to them… unless you’re making the film independently…

good point on casting his relatives/cheaper budget… i thought the same thing, but the way he’s presenting it .. the studio will likely shoot it down for the sake of putting him in his place (i wouldn’t be suprised)…
the writers .. yea, you’re probably correct… the chubby one isn’t funny, but thinks he is, and laughs at his own jokes while his cohort has that “shoot me now, please” look on his face… evil dead 2 meets diner? isn’t it more like ‘from dusk til dawn’ meets ‘from dusk til dawn’? … without the vampires, i think…

Yup, and the prospects of this film making a dime right along with it. I looked at the IMDB cast list. Very interesting, but there are a couple of names in there that guarantee that this film’ll be crap.
