That being said I wanted to make an interesting point about R-rated movies and children. My mom was very strict about horror movies and R-rated content, which was fine by me because I was a pussy anyways.

BUT. I KNEW who Freddy Krueger was. I KNEW who Jason was. I knew who Jaws, Leatherface, and Michael Myers were. I KNEW BUT I HAD NEVER SEEN ANY OF THE MOVIES. Yet these characters were school yard legends and figures that were passed around that all kids knew.

Does anyone know if kids today know about these characters? Or has society decided to shield children from the outside world so much that all they know is what they see?

I have yet to see the original Halloween, Nightmare, Friday the 13th, or Texas Chainsaw (yes, I’m a shitty film student), but I knew who those guys were by rote by the time I was seven.

well: John and Odie. Plus John’s parents and brother made apperances throughout the show. Plus the clown who Garfield hated and a stupid little gray cat I can’t remeber.

There was also another part of the show decicated to the adventures of barnyard animals. I can’t remember any of there names though

Nermal. The grey kitten’s name is Nermal. US Acres was the barnyard animals segment of the show.

The only character name I remember from US Acres was Sheldon, the chick who was still stuck in the egg.

Do you guys remember that episode of “Salute Your Shorts” where the nerdy kid actually said “Pissed-off”? On Nickelodeon no less! And I saw it multiple times, so they never took it out from syndication!
