God, I cannot express how happy I am that this show is back on. Everyone above has already stated all the cool moments of the show, so I would just be repeating whats been said. I did have to record it though, just to go back an rewatch it and make sure that I caught everything.
I do want to say that I have a sudden craving for a FISHBISCUIT! That whole scene was so funny!
Jack hearing his dad will probably be explained away as a hallucination. Remember, that was brought up as a side effect of the drugs. Or rather, dehydration leading to hallucination was.
Elizabeth Mitchell is cute, Chachi is SUCH a plant, and I really don’t think Zeke McFakebeard is gay. He did whistle at her later. I think that’s one of your patented Lost Red Herrings. Hey…wonder if that’s the joke with the fishbiscuit. Sawyer spent all this time trying to solve the puzzle, and it turned out to be a “red herring”. (And though I realize Zeke is probably just being a wiseass, how the hell is a bear, or even multiple bears, supposed to figure that system out?)
The book club scene is frought with portent. Besides the metacommentary, Juliette (that was her name, right?) is foreshadowing dissent with Henry/Ben. And Carrie…about a girl with telekenesis? Hmmm…
Great season opener, Julie Bowen as Jack’s wife really started to grow on me after starting off a little slow in season 1, hopefully she’ll be back later in the season
By the way, I’m now leaning towards the theory that Jack killed his father. Personally, I mean.

Henry telling Kate that in the next two weeks, things are going to get rather unplesant.

I wish I liked the season premiere as much as the rest of you but it was mostly good stuff. Great opening scene. Some really strong character moments throughout the entire episode. Some nice insight into Dharma and The Others. But it did little to make up for the cockteasing tedium of Season 2. I feel a bit like our protagonists, stuck in a cage, punished for trying to figure things out.

Is everyone sure they were reading Carrie? I was assuming it was The Stand, judging by the criticism being thrown at it concerning the religious aspects, plus the fact that fan speculation was of Lost turning into the Stand early on. Lindlehoff did mention it as an inspiration in an early interview, didn’t he?
I’m just so happy to have a well written, well acted show back on the air. watching this tonight made me cancel three other shows from my dvr.
That was very good. Hope Kate gets her personality back though. The guy who plays Henry is so creepy and good. Brilliant.
I am with Supersucker here. Are we sure it was Carrie? There wasn’t any concrete evidence showing it was. I just assumed it was The Stand based on the bits of criticism during the book club.
Also, nice to see my joke theory from above was almost exactly right!
I liked this a lot, but I got a bit annoyed with jack’s obsession. I guess its not supposed to be an attractive character trait, but it definitely fit in with his entire persona. I was actually wondering how Sayid’s character would have handled the aquarium captivity. I imagine he would have been far cooler and wouldnt be fall so easily victim to the mind games.
Benry was once again great. The tension between him and Julia is very interesting. Very great performance and some interesting tidbits being dropped. I am curious where the black chick Other from the season finale went?
The opening was pretty classic Lost though.
EDIT: Anyone else get a Planet of the Apes vibe from the Sawyer scenes? I was waiting for someone to call him “bright eyes”. The music also seemed vaguely reminiscent of the POTA score.

My money’s 100% on Kate. They’re not even bothering to break down Sawyer, and I think Jack can hold it together enough to not fall in line with the Others. Plus, I can already imagine the episode where Jack & Sawyer team up to “get her back.”
Was the Hydra station connected to the other stations on the map that Locke saw last season?
Also, let me say thanks to the fellow Chewers who post in this thread. You guys are the ones that got me to sign up 6 months ago to participate in the Lost thread. So much of what I missed/forget (especially from older episodes) is brought up here…You guys kick ass!

No question that Ben is gonna steal the season…But don’t count out good old Zeke for some classic lines this season…And something tells me that Ben and Juliette were married or something.
Great opening to the season…They can make as many clones of this all they want but it just can’t touch the greatness of this show.

In reference to your comment about “Stepford Wives”, didn’t the Orientation video talk about the DeGroots as gathering a group of scientists to create a utopian society? I think just as Henry/Ben said, they are trying to take people who are “good,” or rather, people who can be easily manipulated. If they try to brainwash anyone, I also agree it would be Kate, but only because they said she was one of the “good” ones (or am I confusing her with Ana Lucia?). Henry/Ben’s comment about hell breaking loose in 2 weeks has me very intrigued.
Also, was that a different Sarah? I had no idea who she was until Jack called her name at the lawyer’s office.
I Tivoed through it very quickly, rewinding for clues. The melodramatic aspects of the show I still hate, though I like Elizabeth Mitchell, she of Gia and Smart House. Why can’t people, you know, act a little less dramatic? Why can’t people say, don’t open that door, because there’s water on the other side? Why can’t Lost behave like some of the episodic television on HBO? With realism in characterization on the level of say, Stephen King?
I’m still watching. I could go at any time. I think the answer to my second question is because cockteasing is what Lost does best. It’s its reason to live. If Lost actually slept with someone, it would be majorly disappointing. I think the answer to my third and fourth is because Cuse and Lindelof are not as good/different types of writers from the kind I like.
The actors are all majorly appealing. Is “Ben” a name that should mean something to us?
