LOST - Season 3

I finally got to finish watching this episode at lunch today.

I’m impressed that it has hooked me in for another season.

When Sawyer asked “How Many” bears it took to get the red fish…

was he asking because he felt he was smarter than multiple bears…

or was he asking because he shot one of the original Polar bears and was wondering how many bears might be left on the island.

It also makes me wonder if these might actually have been the Polar bear cages.. but that these bears have been genetically enhanced in some way to allow them to adapt to Island climates.

He was trying to retain some sense of accomplishment after Zeke took him down a peg.

Well, Dharma was doing zoological experiments so it’s not much of a stretch to imagine they tinkered with the polar bears’ genes.

Exactly.

Loved Saywers response, trying to one up him to make himself still look good.

This has already been covered by someone posting pics from the episode “The other 48 days” but there was no description to go along with it:

Actually both sets of survivors landed right on the beach. And as someone already said, we saw the nose section continue forward after the tail broke off, and we also know that Goodwin was closer to the tail section.

FInally, the reason the back end of the plane snaps off is due to drag-- The tailend has much more drag, and that causes the breakup. Thus, it makes no sense that the part with more drag would have made it further. And since the fuselage in essence becomes a big bullet after the breakup (i.e. very little drag), it’s even harder to imagine it not going further than the tailend.

And in reference to whether Juliette is psychic, a liar, or there’s some computer ont he island feeding them info-- Keep in mind, the smoke monster seemed to have flashes from Eko’s past in it, and people were guessing maybe it had psychic powers… Maybe they’re getting their info from the monster itself.

Oh I have considered this hence my statement that I have no doubt that she is with or was with Dharma. I have also considered the life extension theory as well. Shit, I don’t know I just like trying to figure it out.

The truth is we need a few more puzzle pieces before speculation does any good (not that it isn’t any fun).

Great point. It is likely they were drawing blood. I remember them doing that with Walt. And Desmond was using that injector gun.

I don’t buy the truth serum theories. It doesn’t seem like something The Others would do, particularly given the lengths they went to get info on the Losties by infiltrating them.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure its safe to assume that. Also, the aqaurium explains the shark with the Dharma logo.

That looks like a big crater to me…Meteor magic perhaps?

A bit of the old Maniac Mansion perhaps?

They land in the water in the episode. Usually water tends to be near the beach. The one on the right is easily the tail section with the fusilage being much much further away.

  • What do you think of Kate’s reaction to see Sawyer? She looks withdrawn. I think she has to do something with sawyer to manage her escape/release/something else. They know now where her loyalties lie, and you can bet she is going to be manipulate because of that.

  • In the opening scene, Juliet is speaking about free will and just as she says something about where they are, something along the "here i am thinking that free will still actually exists on…"earthquake…The place obviously has a name or is called something. That little exchange sums up a big theme of the show. Do the others have free will? Are they just told what to do? Is their little paradise just a manicured little limited community? Juliet already has paralles to Jack…And i mean really…Juliet as in Romeo and…or is there a close allusion to Jack and JILL…lets see if meander up a hill to fetch a pail of water. Also…in the second season, Henry asks if they have any steven King an obvious allusion to that opening scene or just a general shot out to the outspoken fan…

  • The song in Jack’s car at the opening is the same song Sayid and Hurley pick up on the radio…

-I don’t think the hydra station is under water…the symbol on the building that kate walks out of looks like a stylized hyrda. Where Jack is, is just where they do aquatic research, and he is under some tank…but not underwater. Why there would be a door with water behind it…yet to be determined.

-“Why are you feeding me breakfast?” best line of the show.

many of the character’s fathers are powerful and influencial men in some way shape or form (jack, kate, sun…etc). the initiative is supposed to be made up of influential people, maybe their fathers are somehow involved? this would give at least some way for them to be related before the flight other then just chance, and if this is the case, who knows how far it could really go, as far as character connectivity.

Or she could have been saying, “on this island.”

That and it looks like they are on the tip of a section of the island, rather than a long stretch of beach like the fuselage people landed.

Just a couple observations:

What Talking Heads song do you think the creators meant to use for the scene with Juliette? When I saw the CD case I was expecting to hear Once in a Lifetime or This must be the place - both songs would have better paralleled the world in which the Other’s live…

and I wonder if there’s a power struggle over the group going on between Juliette and Benry, in the way she left him out of the book club session - and just their interactions through out the episode…

A quite good season premiere, I loved the opening sequence in Otherville but felt otherwise a bit underwhelmed. It might have something to do with the fact that I watched the episode right after Battlestar Galactica’s fantastic season two finale.

E! Online claims that Nathan Fillion is joining the cast. I’ll be really happy if that happens.

Some spoilers regarding his role at the link:

here’s a couple of things I’ve been pondering. Just a couple what ifs…

-Maybe Desmond did manage to block or stop whatever is causing the electromagnetism by turning that key. And, maybe, because of this Locke is crippled again and/or Rose dies.

-In season 2 when Sawyer said ‘I love her’ as he was waking up, maybe he wasn’t talking about Kate, but about the woman from his flashback around that episode.

-Maybe Jack loves Kate, but Kate loves Sawyer, but Kate gets with Jack because Sawyer doesn’t love her.

-Maybe it is The Others motive to ‘break down’ the 3 strongest/most influential survivors. Hence, the ‘Good job’ to Juliette at the end for breaking through with Jack.

-Maybe Locke and Jack will be broken men and form a bond this season.

-Maybe Juliette has ESP and was ‘taken’ by The Dharma Initiative at a very young age. Would explain 1.Why she is so concerned with free will 2.Why Carrie is her favorite book 3.Why they take the children 4.How she had the personal info on Jack.

-In season 2 Henry was talking about the leader of The Others and ‘said he was very brilliant, but, not forgiving’. Maybe Henry is only the ‘leader’ of this experiment. Perhaps we will see someone higher up the Dharma ladder this season.

-Do all of the main character’s have daddy issues, or is it just me? All of the dad’s in this show are dead/not there/terrible people.
Sawyer’s dad shot himself
Kate blew her dad up
Locke’s dad is ‘dead’, even though he faked it
Shannon’s dad is dead
Jack’s dad drank himself to death
Hurley never mentions his dad, just his mom
Walt’s dad was out of his life until the plane flight, pretty much
Ana Lucia had a mother, but never mentioned a father
Claire’s baby has no dad
Sun’s dad is a fucker
Jin was ashamed of his father being a fisherman
Desmond has issues with his girlfriend’s dad

-Maybe Claire is Jack’s sister.

-Maybe Locke will lose his faith and go apeshit like DiCaprio in The Beach.

One thing I want to post here in case it happens to have some weight to it later:

When Sawyer runs into Juliet after getting out of the bear cage, the fact that he stops dead in his tracks in front of a stranger when he knows he’s in the heart of enemy territory is already a bit odd. But more interesting to me is that the look he gives her looks to be one of, almost, familiarity.

…almost.

Yeah, if it were me I would have closelined her and continued to run.

And you would have failed. That whallop she gave to Jack seems to indicate that she is just as powerful as other, um, Others have shown to be.
