AI want to bring Andre snow for Christmas, like Harrison Ford in Mosquito Coast!
Andre we just had some snow today, just so you know.

Bah, humbug.
Please don’t snow, please don’t snow, please don’t snow…
Who’m I kidding? I live in New York.
“Man, this is Christmas music.”
One of my favorite things about the season is that it gives me an excuse to listen to that song. And watch Die Hard. Not that I really need excuses to watch Die Hard, but it’s a good one to give my wife when I’m watching it for the 200th time.
I could actually use a bit of advice here… Anybody think it’s weird, if you have a nephew who’s just turned 21, to buy him a good bottle of scotch, or something? I’ve already for recent Christmases run the usual gamut with wallets and cologne and whatnot. I don’t want my parents and sister to think I’m corrupting him with booze, but what the hell else do you get a kid that age?
AA Shane Black marathon?
This festive season it comes with added PTSD.
You certainly live up to your name.
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a great christmas movie for those of us who like our christmas movies to include a little bit of wrinkly old man full frontal nudity.
The short films that preceded it are also great. Here’s the first one.

AGremlins is my favorite Christmas movie. I used to like A Christmas Story too, but they overplay it on TV so much I got tired of hearing about it.
I wouldn’t waste good, or even bad, scotch on an unrefined palate such as his. I’ve always gone by the adage that you have to be 30 to appreciate scotch. At his age I would stick to nice rum or even a Pick Six or two of your favorite beers to get him introduced to various craft breweries. Then you at least can avoid the impropriety of trying to get him drunk while not throwing good money away on something that might be a little harsh for him yet.
This is my annual go to short. I love when I can introduce it to people who have never seen it. I know I will be able to at least once this year.
On a side note, I believe Father Christmas, Otso Tarkela, plays the grandfather reading to the kids in What Does the Fox Say.
AChristmas is all about THE REF. It’s the only holiday movie that we absolutely must see every year.
For me, it’s all about Charlie Brown, Rudolph, The Grinch, Frosty, and Love Actually. “Just in cases” gets me every time.
Apparently I suck at pop culture, as I had to Google What Does the Fox Say.
But yeah, I think that is him! But in addition to that, Mr. Tarkela is an architect and a teacher of history of architecture at a training college that my girlfriend attended years ago. You can imagine her reaction when she saw the short film and witnessed her respectable teacher running around the woods as a naked Father Christmas.
The older I get, the more I enjoy Christmas. The mood, the family, the decorations, the weather, etc. It helps that I associate fond memories of my grandparents to this holiday. I’m quite old-fashioned, corny and quite into it, so I’ll give an exhaustive list here:
Movies:
Christmas Vacation - typically 2-3 times
Elf - several times
Home Alone - several times
Die Hard
A Christmas Carol - every version. Yes, even the Zemeckis one. I’ve never liked Scrooged, however.
Prep & Landing (new addition!)
Arthur Christmas (new addition!)
White Christmas - my wife loves this. I hate it. It’s barely a Christmas movie.
Holiday Inn - the Bing musical I vastly prefer.
Love Actually
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - not the Ron Howard one
Charlie Brown
Rudolph
Gremlins
Bad Santa
A Midnight Clear
Nightmare Before Christmas
I don’t think I am missing anything. Christmas Story is played out, but I still manage to watch it as it reruns 7 thousand times over December. I’ve never seen It’s A Wonderful Life. Shocking I know, but everything I understand about it leads me to believe I wouldn’t be a fan - half because George seems like a prick, half because it’s so hyped. Miracle on 34th Street comes out every once in a while, but that’s not required viewing for me.
Music:
Bing
Rat Pack
Nat
Andy Williams
Straight No Chaser
Perry Como
Carpenters
Elvis
Johnny Mathis
Harry Connick, Jr.
Yes, I’m a damn dork. I don’t care. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. ![]()
Watch it. Trust me. The hype doesn’t even do it justice. There’s a reason it still hits after 66 years.
I just watched the Michael Keaton Jack Frost. It was really creepy.
On December first I shall be watching **National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.**This week I’ve watched National Lampoon’s Vacationand National Lampoon’s European Vacationto get myself in the mood for it!
I’ll probably watch it a load of times in the run up to Christmas Day aswell as **Scrooged.**On Christmas Eve, after the kids are in bed the wife and I will settle down and watch **Die Hard.**The ULTIMATE Christmas Eve movie.
As for music, I’ve got a couple of compilations of all the classic Christmas Hits. You name it I’ve pretty much got it. However, I bought myself something curious this year. The album Santamentalby Steve Lukather and Friends. Lukather is the guitarist and one of the singers in Toto (who I love) and did this album with guest appearances from Slash and Eddie Van Halen. It’s really well worth a listen. Great album.
MTV when it was down right innocent.
Martha Quinn didn’t need to twerk to be sexy, she was sexy just being herself.
Managed to catch Mickey’s Christmas Carol on ABC Family last night. The last time I saw it on TV they were airing it at like 9AM Christmas morning on one of Disney’s cable channels and I only caught the last 5 minutes.
Aside from that I hadn’t seen it since I was maybe 5 years old. Why doesn’t Disney air this thing in primetime on ABC? The animation is terrific and its a damn solid retelling of the story. Just air it right after A Charlie Brown Christmas instead of one of those lame Peanuts Christmas specials that never get the voices right.
