I almost tried out the multiplayer last night, but after playing single for several hours my Guitar Hero 2 box just kept tempting me out of the corner of my eye, and I finally broke down and played that for a while. I’ll try some multiplayer today sometime…

one gameplay DVD. if you get the collector’s “tin” you get some bonus shit on another disc.
I’m a sucker and I went ahead and bought the collector’s tin (mainly out of my hatred for the regular box art). It comes in a nice solid black tin with the logo stamped on the front of it. It includes a nice little art book and a DVD with a bunch of fluff pieces that are the general lines of “When we came up with the concept for GOW, we wanted to try something that had never been done before.” I haven’t made it all the way through it yet, but there’s nothing too ground breaking so far. Still, I’d recommend getting it just out of the sheer sexiness of the tin case and the art book ain’t half bad.
A fun thing to do is, if you have grenades equipped and an enemy gets to within melee range, press B to stick the grenade to him.

Just picked it up! Got the second-to-last copy at Best Buy (even after pre-ordering) and there were still about 10 people hovering around looking for copies as I left.
Picked up CoD3 as well as I need to kill me some Nazis.
Considering how poorly video-game centric stores are run, it sometimes embarasses me that gaming is one of my hobbies.
I went to Gamestop to pick up my GoW copy at 5:30 yesterday, as I had received a helpful call letting me know it had arrived. When I arrive I am tersely told that “we won’t get them in until 7:00”. I ask what the confusion is, and I am rudely told by three people simultaneously that the delivery was delayed.
I come back at 7:30 (which I feel stupid doing, but I’ve invested this much time, might as well see it through) only to find that there is a huge line. And they are still waiting for the delivery of the games. Rather than ring people up while they wait (they magically have a few copies in the store for themselves), they physically wait until the games are PLACED ON THE SHELVES before even beginning to process the customers. After realizing that they were processing the line at the rate of about one person every two minutes, I gave up and left. I’ll pick it up today.
This is the last time I pre-order anything through Gamestop or any other electronics store. It’s on-line only from now on.
That bites, Overlord. I have to say the Gamestop I use is always professional, helpful, and efficient. Perhaps they’re the exception to the rule.

Overlord’s experience isn’t rare, unfortunately. I’ve heard many stories like his just about my local Gamestop/EB’s (and have personally dealt with the delayed shipping bullshit). It’s driven me away from shopping with them, at least, but I’m still a sucker for walking into one of the big boys and looking for the stuff I need.
Sub in GameCrazy for for GameStop and you pretty much have the experience my friends had. They had pre-ordered it through there and basically had the time table for when it arrived pushed further and further back. After 5, they gave up and went a few blocks over to where EB had been selling it for the past several hours. If only retail stores were as reliable for games as they were for DVDs and I think we’d be all right.
The online community is starting to become a bit more crowded now which has led to me getting kicked from every other match I try to join or getting into the lobby and being greeted by 12 year olds talking about how much weed they have been smoking.

I’m going to be sticking to the Co-Op for the time being right now till the assholes are weeded out.

Boy, I’d sure like to be playing Gears Of War right now. Too bad FedEx is too busy sucking fat cocks to notice that NE is a completely different state from MI. So now I gotta wait until tomorrow to pick it up from EB (hopefully UPS overnight sucks fewer fat cocks than FedEx), who’s only still getting my business on this title because a) I have it preordered in full there and b) I have to work a 14 hour shift in a few hours which means going to Best Buy would put me in a situation where I would not be able to play before work and would thus have to be stuck at work for 14 hours all while knowing that Gears Of War is sitting at home unplayed.
Thank God I’ve got Guitar Hero 2 or I’d be homicidal right now.

As for overlord’s situation, I am in So Cal also dude and apparently the gamestop shipments got viva pinata in half the boxes instead of gears, which was why there was such confusion and tardiness in getting the game to the store. To my GS credit, they rang everyone up well before the boxes came and just handed them to people with signed receipts. Still, it was pretty unacceptable. I NEVER want to spend more than 30 minutes in a gamestop ever again.
Fuck Gamestop. Got a call yesterday that CoD3 & GoW would be available today. I was a little pissed they didn’t get GoW a day early like most places, but no big deal. Got there at 10:30, no games. Went and got some lunch, 11:15, no games. I ask the counter girl and she (very politely) says she’s sorry but they just got a call that the GoW shipment got left in Texas and it would be possibly late Thursday but most likely Friday before they get it. She says CoD3 should still be in at any time though. I decide to go across the street to Best Buy, where I find multiple copies of both games. As I’m walking to the counter with GoW I get a call from Gamestop telling me that CoD3 will also not be in until Friday. Back to the Best Buy shelf for my other game. I stop at Gamestop to get my 125$ back, and tell a very large line of very angry people that Best Buy has about 20 copies of each game waiting for them. Fuck Gamestop.
CoD3 is awesome, haven’t played GoW yet.

As for Gamestop/EB, I’m done with those folks. I had a NHL 2K7 and NHL 07 both pre-ordered (and mostly paid off) at a GS. I called that afternoon about 2:00 to make sure they were in, and the gal on the phone assured me they were. They asked my name and everything.
I showed up there right after work (~5:15), and they had sold NHL 2K7 out from under me.
I don’t shop there anymore.
