Shit, if you want to really piss off the masses of nerds next week make a shirt that says “Wii are at E3.”
By noon on Day 2 they’ll find your corpse outside the Staples Center.
You guys are nuts! But it’s all good. (referring to the wii stuff above, and the WRATH OF CROW! ha ha ha!)
I’m pretty psyched for the info we’ll get out of E3 this year, specifically from the Nintendo side of things. Can’t wait for more info on the Wii/Revolution and possible games. Even more info on the DS Lite and how it is rolling out in the US would be cool.
I’m actually kind of indifferent to 360/PS3 news but for different reasons. The 360 already has it’s foot in the door so it will most likely be just infor on forthcoming games, which is just fine but doesn’t do much for me. I’m sure there will be some awesome stuff though and I’ll likely get more into it as it unfolds. As far as the PS3 goes, I kind of lost interest in it a while back when it started seeming like it’s going to be TOO expensive. I’m not even ready to take the plunge for the 360 yet, so the PS3 is off my radar for now, no matter how much of a powerhouse it will be. Maybe we’ll get to see a new design for the controller. No more boomerang? Will the ‘new’ design look a lot like the old? We’ll see.
I’m sure there will plenty of cool E3 suprises and I’ll keep poking in here to see what’s going on.
Not really familiar with the intricacies of E3 (I mean I do know what it is) but how do you get denied entry? Is it for like press only or what?
And yeah Russ - if you can get the GH2 Set-List that would kick so much ass.

The idea, is that the conference should be industry only types. Not the general public.

It’s a trade show, so technically only for press, retailers and so forth. In the last few years the doors have really opened to throngs of fanboys. Fun for them, but hugely congestive and a general pain in the ass for everyone who’s there because they have to be. So this year they’ve started to be more restrictive, which is (to me) a good thing.

I have an appointment scheduled with them on…Wednesday, maybe?..so if they’ve got the list I’ll have it. And so will everyone else, since it’s one of the most anticipated games of the show.
Groovy. Have fun, guy!
More specifically, I had heard that they’ve restricted the retail presence to include only managerial staff and no line-level employees of chains such as Best Buy (who otherwise clogged the arteries of the floor in years previous).
True unfortunately.
The last two years, I had neither money, time, or interest in going, even though I was a Best Buy employee.
This year, I’ve got all three, and even my department supervisor got rejected.
The managers of EB and GameStop from my mall got to attend. I dont understand how THEY make a difference.
Yeah, they schedule the other employees hours and count the reigsters but besides that they’re just older fanboys. Sometimes, even more irritating than your entry-level Fanboy.
I hear there’s also a severe reduction in booth babes this year, correct?
Anyway, I’m totally hyped for more Nintendo news. And PC news, though the PC gets overshadowed around here.
I plan to hide in Morgan Webbs rack to sneak in.
Don’t tell me I can’t fit in there.

Wright, Molineaux and MMOs aside, the PC is a legacy platform to the major publishers. There’s really interesting stuff going on in the indie scene on the PC, but most of those efforts get totally overshadowed at an event like E3, if they’re able to get a spot at all. GDC is really the place to track down cool PC stuff.
Another part of the problem with covering those games at E3, if they’re around, is that from a press perspective publishers set up their schedules to maximize IGN and GameSpot coverage. Those two outlets have two dozen+ people on the floor, while everyone else has a handful at most. Seeing everything is literally impossible, and giving a cool little game the proper time, even if it has buzz, is difficult.
Put it this way: I have to cover Sony’s stuff. If I went to all the closed door sessions with Sony, I’d be at their booth for five hours. That’s about 1/5 of my time on the show floor, for maybe six games, tops. Add similar behavior from other publishers I’m assigned to hit, and I’m left with about 3 hours to cover the other 75% of the show. If I’m lucky, I’ll get to eat lunch. Once. And there will still be dozens of games I’ll never even know were there.
Cool little PC games? Not a chance.

Wow, there must be an echo in here…

I’ll be going all three days. I’ll also be attending the Sony press conference. Because they hold theirs on the studio lot, not downtown like Nintendo and MS, it’s a lot closer for me.
As interesting as E3 is, the real meat and potatoes is the afterparties each of the big three hold opening night. I like being able to meet and talk to the designers/videogame execs to thank them for games I’ve enjoyed and pick their brains. You’d be surprised how much info you can get out of these guys after they’ve had a few cocktails.
I’m sure you’ve all head this by now… Xbox live will be putting up lots of junk from E3 while it’s happening.
This is a brilliant move. If they are smart they’ll add demos for the new games so we can all try out what the lucky SOB’s at the convention are playing.
I think that in order to toughen up it’s image, Nintendo should release “O.J. Simpson: THe Game!” It would be a FPS (first person stabber). You would use the unique Wii controller to brutally stab anyone in your way.*
*Yes, this lame joke is at least 10 years to late
Yeah, I won’t be going unless I win that Mountain Dew contest. But I hope they have some Duke Nukem Forever news.*

Not a bad idea, but I think you should be able to play other characters in the OJ saga besides the man himself. I was hoping to get inside the skin of F. Wii Bailey.
Fuck a booth babe for me, Russ! For meeeee!
Oh, and if you get a chance to play New Super Mario Bros, that would be great too.

Oh poo, I can’t find the lock button.
Why would we continue it there? It’s got a lot less posts. No, I think I’ll stay right here, thank you very much.
