You are right, but for some reason the last name of Stubbs ring a bell.
I realize this is a tad anal, but when discussing the futures of the real-life characters, could people put up spoiler warnings? It’s an aspect of the show I’ve gone out of my way to avoid finding out stuff about that until the season’s over.

Really? Dammit. I’m positive I’ve heard the name linked with Deadwood before. I’m guessing it must’ve just been a ‘Stubbs’ who worked at the School and I linked the two.
Great start, I had long hoped Farnum would get his, who better then Bullock.
I thought the Bullock thing was hinting that maybe Hearsts lair was kind of stinky…I don’t know, Bullock has gone on the warpath several times before and never played with his nose, be a little late in the game for a tic.
The look of this show continues to improve, first season cinematography was a little dull, but second season and particulalry the start of this season the camera work is very pristine.
On a side note, in the first season when Al is explaining to the kid about the titty licker, and goes on about specialists and how he dreams of retiring. He mentions a specific location it is ‘somwhere’, England, currently my eps are dl’s so i cant check subtitles, anyone know what the somewhere is, it sounds like Brighton.
Bullock was trying to restrain himself and hide his knowledge, and doing a very poor job of it. The tick was to show that his poker face was terrible and that Hearst was reading him like a book. Bullock also refused a drink and remained standing the whole time, his discomfort and preoccupation making him rude. When directly asked whether he’d heard about the shooting, he blinked and hesitated. He’s basically a terrible liar. When his wife asked him how the meeting went, he rubbed his nose again, since obviously he’s not going to tell her the truth.
Swearengen’s Batcave was in Manchester.
I love the new season already. I was fairly satisfied with the shortened fourth season before seeing this, now I’m pissed off again.
Gotta love how menacing Al can make a pull of whiskey.

I agree with the last post - now I’m really bummed that season 4 will be shortened. The speeches had just as little reaction and impact as I imagined they would.
Through the episode I was thinking this is a damn good character ep, but then at the end with what Hearst did things got kicked up a notch, I love it. Looks to me like he got a good bit of one of Al’s fingers, and the blow from the Captain only compounding matters…can’t wait till Dan takes care of business.
Anybody know what Doc, Ellsworth, and Trixie were doing with the mirrors? Surely it was some sort of preparation for the abortion, what specifically though.
Was it an abortion or just a procedure to avoid a miscarriage?
The scene with Tolliver acting batshit crazy seemed to go on forever.

They were setting up the mirrors to direct the light so Doc could see what he was doing.

You beat me to it, Richard. That line, and the delivery in particular, is hands down one of the coolest things to spring forth from my TV screen in a damn long time.
That short little exchange showed a great deal of character contrast between Al and Seth. Fantastic stuff.

As for Major Dad, I think that as with many of the actors on this show, people who generally don’t get weighty material like this, he is like the rest of them and that when given the chance to do good work they relish it, and run with it.
And the black cook is so dead.

Brian Cox, of course, is a great add. McRaney has been great. Show can do no wrong, in my book.
And Richardson has become one of my favorite scene stealers.
A fairly weak episode last night. I just didn’t care about the Steve/Hostetler storyline. The best thing that came out of it was the touching moment where Martha asked Seth to make sure no harm comes to the horse.
What’s up with Trixie this season? She’s turning into a shrewish bitch who flies off the handle with no provocation. I can’t tell if the show is playing it for laughs or not, but she’s loosing my sympathy, and at this point I don’t get what Sol sees in her, other than she must be a great lay.
Can’t wait for next week to see…[spoiler if you don’t watch previews]Dan and Cpt. Turner going at it. It looks brutal.
