Well I thought I’d get the ball rolling here as I know I’m not the only person looking forward to this. I know this is a little early but some Deadwood discussion can’t hurt.
I’m still not sure on the annexing issue seeing as I don’t really know my history. But I think I’m following things right (Plus the recaps at Television Without Pity have been a massive source of help)
For those who don’t know, we now also have Brian Cox joining the cast.
The Season premiere is Sunday June 11th.
HBO have released 3 trailers for the new season. And so far they’re great (And I hope they include them on the DVD).

They’ll have all of Season 2 available On-Demand starting next week, May 15th. You can get a schedule for their full On-Demand lineup at their website.
Those trailers are really great. I love how the first one ties back into one of the Bible passages mentioned by the epileptic Reverend in the first season–about the body, and the community, being connected.
I won’t be able to get Season Three because we don’t get cable where I live, but you bet your ass I’m going to buy season two the second it comes out. It’s a contrary opinon, but I think Deadwood is the best thing HBO’s ever done.
I was about to start this thread after catching part of the trailer with the different characters reciting the Beatitudes. I can’t fucking wait for this.
You all need to lay off the Sopranos though. I know it’s the internet, but it is possible to express apprecitaion for one show without ripping on another. The Sopranos, Deadwood, and The Wire are as good as TV gets, and I love em all to an unhealthy degree.
I’m actually going to go so far as to say Deadwood is not just my favorite HBO show, but my favorite show. Like, ever. There have only been a couple shows I’ve watched more than once (Twin Peaks, the good episodes of X Files), but Deadwood I watch over and over, and find new and spectacular character moments and turns of phrase every time. The ensemble is second to absoultely none, and the writing is like acombination of David Mamet and Tom Stoppard. Just out of curiosity-lets try listing top 3 characters in descending order. Will everyone put Swearengen at #1?

Although this leaves off Cy Tolliver, Calamity Jane, Dan Dority and even Francis Woolcott. So shit.
I agree about laying off Sopranos. It doesn’t hold a candle to Deadwood, but it’s still friggin better than most TV shows including over-rated network stuff like LOST, a show that desperately needs likeable characters (a trait that Sopranos and Deadwood excell in).
I agree with the first 2, but have to put in a vote for Bullock for #3. I love his constant look of restrained rage, and the way Al constantly calls him on his bullshit “holier than thou” attitude. But in general, the sense of just how damaged everyone on this show really is gets to me, and there really isn’t a character I don’t like (Jane included).

I don’t like everyone, but some characters are just fun to hate, like Francis Wolcott and Cy Tolliver. so who do you think Garret Dillahunt is going to play next season, and how do you think they will kill him off? I love the fact he is the Kenny of the show.

I don’t think Dillahunt will be back for S3. I read an interview somewhere with Milch where he talked about recasting him as Wolcott to emphasize how those murderous tendacies aren’t limited by class. It wasn’t done as stunt casting or as a gag. Turning him into Kenny is exactly why he shouldn’t be brought back.
because this is a thread about the greatness of deadwood and it’s upcomming season, not “deadwood good, the sopranos bad”. there was absolutely no point in slamming the sopranos for no reason. somebody seem’s jealous to me.

You started ripping on the show out of nowhere, and used far too many question marks for casual conversation.
It’s not like the Sopranos (which is the best TV show ever, and has an ensemble cast that is at least as strong as Deadwood, imo) popularity harms Deadwood in any way. Actually, HBO’s flagship is what made Deadwood possible and helped it gain an audience.
