If you ever wanted an action game where you play a cynic photographer that finds himself amidst a zombie infestation, Dead Rising is your game. If you ever wanted to play a zombie game where you can use anything on-screen as a weapon against the undead, Dead Rising is your game. If you ever wanted a game where you can have thousands of zombies on-screen, Dead Rising is your game. If you ever wanted a game where the lead is an asshole that just wants to win a Pulitzer with a nice picture of flesh-eating zombies, Dead Rising is your game. If you ever wanted the director of Resident Evil to just say “fuck it” and just make a balls-out action zombie game… two words: Dead Rising.

They don’t move til you get near them, but when they do, they move fast. There are hundreds of these guys all over the place, and you really can’t avoid fighting at any time. You have to protect people you find, and get them to a safe area, but the zombies kill them, you can kill them, they can kill you, it’s just madness. Good madness though! Might buy a 360 to play it.
If you ever liked zombie flicks or games, do yourself a favor and watch the gameplay videos on the link below (chainsaw action!). Just don´t bother with the trailer because it uses REALLY old footage.
This game looks great. Yeah, it may be mindless fun but I don’t think I can stay away too long with that scene of main character standing on top of the truck with a shotty and having 500+ zombies standing around him. All I gotta say is “game on baby…game the fuck on…”
That’s exactly what I was thinking while I was watching that trailer. It’s State of Emergency with zombies in it. I imagine it’d be fun for an hour, but it would wear off quickly. And the way the character moves and attacks doesn’t sit right with me. It looks like one of those games where you’ll end up swinging your sword/shovel/what-have-you and lurching uncomfortably forward into some clunky combo that sends you stumbling ten steps from where you want to be.
The graphics look good, and the blood and gore effects seem nice, but overall, the visual style is extremely bland. Say what you will about the Resident Evil franchise, but the fact that there was a bit more than just “shuffling zombie” as an enemy gave the games a lot of character. Ultimately, I’d put money on this being yet another game that looks a hell of a lot better than it plays. Just from the trailer it seems a plodding, mind-numbing chore, and no amount of faux-industrial-techno soundtrack can disguise that.
The difference is that the extremely mediocre State of Emergency was more fun than Dead Rising. Despite its many, many faults, at least SoE kept the action moving. Dead Rising has a zombie glomming onto you every five feet, and by the time you shake the first zombie off, two more are waiting to grab you. There’s no sense of mayhem or unbridled chaos, just slogging your way down one crowded, unscary hallway after the next.
I’m desperate for this game. I love me some zombies.
I hope they make a sequel, or just a zombie game in general, that is like GTA San Andreas, but filled with zombies. And it’d be even better if they could make it as intuitive as possible – so like the only “goal” was to escape the city, by getting to a point B, but the path (like say over a bridge) is wall to wall zombies or something, requiring you to search throughout the rest of the city for some means by which to thwart those masses.
I think it’d be great, and its a logical next step after this game, I think (since this game is free roaming in a confined environment, next step would be outside those walls, or in a less isolated/limited space).
Also, Brad Whillette-- I read that the character supposedly only looks awkward when he’s moving because he’s using his off arm to shield his camera (hanging around his neck), and because he’s supposedly very injured during the clips online.
And for those curious the newest previews (with a near to final build) have been making the video game sites pretty giddy. I’m definitely picking this one up.
I don’t see how someone couldn’t have fun with this demo. Covering stairwells with cooking oil, zombie pie fights, hucking bowling balls through crowds…the mayhem on display is unmatched. If all Slater did was push his way through crowds, then he either played a drastically different demo or had no idea what he was doing.
