Yeah, pretty solid opener, though I expect bigger plot twists (which this show thrives on) in the coming weeks.
Anyone else get the impression that Patty was entirely responsible for the politician’s daughter getting busted with coke, just to get him turned back around on underwriting the foundation? That seemed to be what they were hinting at with the little conversation between Patty and her son.

Oh yeah. C’mon, she could’ve done all that before breakfast and still ruined the lives of city blocks worth of people that day!
That was nice. I’m really gonna miss Ray this season. That Regis & Kelly bit was a little over the top. Danson was awesome in his patheticness. Ellen’s still being followed by Uncle Pete, so she’s doomed to get caught meeting with the FBI. Uncle Pete could have his own show, I bet.
I forgot to mention my surprise at seeing the sister from last season is still in the credits. I wonder how big a part she can actually play this season. Last time the case was linked to her. Now?

Oh, definitely. But usually her devious machinations are laid bare in all of their glory … not just hinted at.

It’s probably gotten to the point where the creators know that we’re going to catch on so they didn’t even make it obvious. That’d be my guess.
Yeah, it was established last season that Patty has no limits to what she’ll do, so it seemed clear to me that she was responsible for the coke bust.
I had the same thoughts as Boris, about William Hurt’s character. Definitely some serious history between him and Patty, so the easy conclusion to make is that the child was theirs. Though with the twists the show throws at you, it could end up being something completely different. And I also thought right away that he killed his own wife - this show makes me think the worst of everyone.
Boris’ post had me confused, though, I was racking my brain trying to figure out who Sheriff Bullock was. Sadly I’ve not seen Deadwood yet, so that reference initially went over my head, lol.
Good start to the season, I look forward to seeing how all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place.
Ha! Do yourself a favor and check out Deadwood. It’s a fantastic show.
Never seen Deadwood, and thought Olyphant was boring as shit in Die Hard, but I now have a man crush on the guy.
Rose Byrne needs some fucking 5 course meals. Seriously. Like a lot of them.
Glenn Close proves again that shes God, or at least Jesus.

Terrific opener. Lots of solid acting and writing.
Byrne needs to eat. She’s way too skinny. (but this could be explained if she’s grieving and not eating…)
Now.. Close’s hair? C’mon! A month ago it was half the length. It’s in the details!
Great season opener. All the actors for the new season are top notch. Ellen is a little skinny but she still looks great and considering she’s in group couseling probably not eating much. Patty continues to be incredibly devious, no doubt she set up the daughter. Don’t think William Hurt killed his wife, somebody probably set him up and Ellen was last season.
I’m wondering how Frobisher will fit into the story, or will he just be target of Ellen’s bent up rage? As far as the narrative, the opening scene with Ellen talking to someone six months in the future is going to re-shown, me thinks, over and over again to get us to think its Patty she’s talking to. But its probably someone we don’t expect.
I am in agreement that Ellen seems a bit skinny and I was also questioning Patty’s sudden hair length. Anyway, solid first episode and I look forward to another powerful season. And you know Patty had something to do with sabotaging that guy’s daughter when her son said “I told you she was a cokehead” at the fundraising event near the end of the show.

Well I have no idea what the hell is going on and I’m loving it. Who is Olymphant really supposed to be?
And the close up of the dead wife-burst vessels in her eyes. Nasty stuff.

With the music that was playing, it almost seemed like they were trying to give Olymphant a “Punisher” vibe in that scene. Bizarre. And fascinating.

It did have that vibe. Didn’t they establish last week that Wes knew exactly how long he’d have to wait until he could get vengeance on the drunk driver that killed his girlfriend? I had the thought that perhaps to pass the time, he would do some freelance vigilante work, and in this case help Ellen with Frobisher.
I loved the introduction of the Claire Maddox character, and damn, Marcia Gay Harden looked great. Didn’t expect the reveal with her and Purcell.

I actually think that Patty’s dead baby was Purcell’s. And that she had to go through that with him. So that’s why seeing Patty’s son was kinda awkward.
Patty appears to be getting outsleased by Daniel. I think Ellen will crack under the presure of trying to work with the Feds while still appearing loyal to Patty.
