Chewer March Madness Takes on the AFI

DRAFTS & LISTS Lists
1

Will do this one, maybe more, as the NCAA tourney gets underway.

Premise: take a list of the “best” and break it down, letting Chewers vote on “games.”

I’m taking the top 64 flicks from AFI’s top 100 and bracketing them. So, post here if you want a game to pick from. One game per round, so we’ll need 32 to get thru the first round, 16 for the second, etc. etc.

So start replying…

Also, this will be very random and wild since there will be no consensus. One Chewer picks a winner from the two flicks he or she is given.

I staggered the choices, so they don’t line up evenly. The first group of 4 was given The 4 one seeds, but not in exact order (i.e. #1 doesn’t face #64…Actually, the way it worked out when I did it, it DOES, but you get the point).

So let’s go people…I’ll start us off:

  1. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
  2. To Kill A Mockingbird

Winner: To Kill A Mockingbird

OK, some people are confused…

Basically, I looked at AFI’s Top 100 American Films. I paired them up to play “games.” Like basketball. Except it’s not. So basically, when you reply in this thread, you’ll get a game and you’ll pick the winner of the match-up based on whatever criteria you want (i.e. who has taller actors, which film is better, buzz, etc. etc.).

So I took the Top 64 films ranked by the AFI and paired them all up. Reply to this thread, I’ll give you a game. There are 32 games in ther first round, you can only go once per round. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD won the first match-up, as you can see in my first reply.

Any questions? Lemme know. I am now going to distribute games to those who have replied.

By the way, I choose the games at random…I close my eyes and scroll and click on something in Word. Although I will try to do one from each ranking group…Which you can see below…

So just reply to the thread with your winner, I’ll be keeping track…I’m not posting the entire list in order to keep up an element of surprise in pairings for the first round, but I’ll post them for the second round and after.

7. Bonnie and Clyde

16

The Grapes of Wrath

17

SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN

AMADEUS is top quality, but SITR makes me happy like nobodies business.

And it gave way to the greatest musical number in the history of the world involving a bear in a macintosh…

Yes, just post the winner that you pick in this thread.

For Starving Dogs:

  1. The Godfather
  2. Tootsie

For Blunt:
8. Annie Hall
9. Midnight Cowboy

19

I’ll take one, too, if possible.
