And it was a honorable demise.
For some shows, that would be season finale material. And it was the fourth episode.
So much groundwork laid for the rest of the season – Kara and Tigh have to be completely shattered, Baltar’s fate is anything but certain, Gaeta has his guilt to deal with…
And based on the preview, it looks like no one is forgetting who did what on New Caprica.
Dear God in Heaven I love this show.
I am pretty sure we just saw a Battlestar jump into the atmosphere, drop like a rock, launch some fighters, then jump back out. It was perhaps the coolest thing I have seen, ever. Is it sad that this show makes me happy to be alive?
Richard D. beat me to it. Holy SHIT was that fucking good. Hands down the best thing on television, period.

That’s what was so great about this episode – leave out the absolutely spectacular battle footage, and you still had one hell of a story going on. I was alternating between fan-boy geeking out and sitting in my chair in stunned silence.
Don’t forget about the Pegasus doing the kamikazi into the Basestar. Just an amazing episode.
The “resolution” (I’m sure there’ll be a lot more to come out of it) of Starbuck’s kid was beautiful. This is the first thing the show has done with Kara that I thought was truly excellent.
Was anyone really surprised by what Tigh did to his wife? I thought something like that was going to happen since she first showed up. I did not like that woman.

I thought there’d be a snap and a gunshot, that he’d slowly lose control and kill her in a rage. This way … it was more tender and more cruel at the same time. And the way she looks at him as she drinks – did she know the drink was poisoned? Did she willingly spare Sol from being forced to use more violent means on her? Her whole speech sounded like a final confession, like she knew she was done for.
Holy crap – watching the rerun, I just realized it’s Jammer who Zarek grabs and gives the gun to to protect Roslin. That whole “I didn’t do anything!” just now registered.
I thought Tigh was going to go for the classic hug & kiss then stab in the gut. The poisoning was classier I guess. Also it seems Jammer is gonna get some closure next week, with the whole Caprica Police thing.
I can’t wait until Emmy time so I can see BSG get ignored while 24 and CSI get nominated again.
I think she was trying to pull the same crap she has done before to get out of trouble with Tigh. She confessed everything so he would forgive her but it was too much this time.
Speaking of Zarek, I really wish they would make him a regular on the show. I am also wondering what is going to happen to Jammer now? Will he tell anyone about being in the NCP or not.
I would also like to bring up the fact that the Pegasus was a more powerful and larger ship then the Galactica and, logically, destroying it was not so smart. Plot wise though they needed to get everyone back on one ship.
Yeah, how in the hell did season 5 of 24 win best drama over this show and Lost? Like Conan said, “But you won last year! Nothing makes sense anymore!”
I was thinking that they wouldn’t kill Tigh’s wife and that they would keep her alive. But that they would have her stay with the Cylons after ditches her. I thought this because after years of watching cliched scifi shows I figured they’ed do it so they could bring her back later and use her for something. But I was wrong and was happy to be.
I also loved… LOVED seeing Galactica appear in the sky, launch the fighters and jump out. And I knew Pegasus was going to come (of course it was) and it was great to see it take out two Basestars. I also liked when Adama said, “Damn you Lee!” then a few moments later, “thank you Lee.”
Gaius continues to annoy me (like he should) but I’m interested in seeing where his storyline goes.
And the Cylons have the baby!
Next weeks episode looks good.
This had to be one of the best hours of tv I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t so sure about the Starbuck storyline in the last few weeks, but it paid off in this episode, and will likely keep paying off for a while to come.
Poor Baltar, I never saw him as “evil”, per se .. just self serving. He fucked up and he knows it, and I wanted so badly to see him redeem himself tonight by saving the baby and perhaps giving up his life in doing so. I may be the only one, but Baltar has got to be my favorite character on this show.
I also thought Michael Hogan (Tigh) gave one hell of a performance tonight. When he told Adama that not everybody made it, the look on his face damn near brought a tear to my eye. I really think he’s the best actor on this show, and that’s saying a lot given the cast.
I agree with you, Anjin, that Hogan is one of the best on the show. Tigh has been close to, if not, my favorite character since the start and he gets taken to a lot of dark places the other characters don’t always get drawn into.
Baltar gets on my nerves some but I do like his character. I think he is played perfectly. Just enough stupidity mixed with ego and a lack of belief in anything besides himself make him such a malleable character. You never know if he is going to do something to rescue humanity or finally doom it.
My wife and I keep re-running the whole atmosphere-jump sequence. Holy frak in a can.
I also loved that we get our last sight of Pegasus in the exact same way as the original series: in a suicide run against a horde of basestars. Nif-ty.
After reading Devin’s interview with Ron Moore a few weeks back I decided to catch up with all the episodes I’d missed (and there were a lot!) Sadly Netflix let me down on the last 3 discs so I didn’t quite catch up in time, but still tuned in to the first show of the new season.
Now, as I half expected, being able to watch a show at a scheduled time on Tv is not something I’m able to do. And that is really pissing me off! It’s rare that a show can grab me the way BG has. I caught half of tonights episode & then was away from the TV for awhile, I walked back in to see the Pegasus go out in style. Damn.
I guess I’ll just have to avoid the series until I can watch it on DVD. Mind you, that’s a great way to watch a great show!
I’m of the mind that Ellen knew exactly what was happening. Watch how she looks Saul in the eye as she drinks the poison. She’s confessed her sins, she’s told him that she loved him.
“You’ve always been there when I needed you.”
She knew what was up, and this was the easiest way out of the situation - for both her and him.
Every Tigh scene brought me to tears.
I’m waiting for the Kara/Tigh crazy club of doom to start…
