It certainly seems like the cast will be together more this season, which I think solves my biggest issue with s4. Hurwitz has said that season 4 was designed to set up a season 5 where the family rallies at their lowest point…I’m guessing s5 will be the final season?
boy did S4 come together, though. I kind of hated it half-way through the second episode (and it took me like a week to finally get past that episode) but by the end of it I realized how much the whole thing was a long-con in terms of deriving humor from the ol’ write-one-story-from-a-bunch-of-different-perspectives paradigm. kind of masterful stuff, really.
but I do look forward to a season with the characters spending more time together. the cast has such great chemistry.
S4 made me laugh hard, a lot, but I still think that some of the material was pretty dire. I’ve never really warmed to those George Sr. eps, and for a while I was pretty pissed that the last shot of the whole series was going to be George Maharis punching his dad in the face.
However, I’m hopeful that s5 will bring the show to a satisfying maybe-conclusion.
AI think time will be kinder to the Season 4 experiment than the internet’s initial impression was, but for sure I do not regret that it was a one-off deal.
I wonder if they shot a Bob Loblaw cameo this season.
I was thinking that if there was a Bob Loblaw scene, they could make some sort of sideways comment via Ron Howard. Then again, the last time we saw Loblaw, he was representing Barry Zuckerkorn after the latter was caught using a stepladder to sneak into a high school locker room. So maybe the commentary was already built in by accident.
All seems to have gone quiet on the Tambor front. The George Sr. storyline is going to be fascinating, because he even before the allegations against Tambor, Hurwtiz made it clear that they were going to have to backtrack on the George Sr. Turns Into A Woman arc, which predated Transparent.
Since it’s poised to be a central conceit of the season, any theories about who killed Lucille II on the night of Cinco? Season 4 was careful to give most of the characters motive and opportunity. There is a part of me that doesn’t think Lucille II is dead at all, but assuming they don’t go in that direction, who’s your favorite for the murderer?
I can’t see any of the Bluths being murderers. I agree that Lucille II probably isn’t dead.
If she is dead, my vote goes to Ice, who carried out the hit based on a misunderstanding. (Hey, as long as we’re fan fic-ing, why not?) I just want to hear Will Arnett say “ICE” again.
Sally Sitwell seems the most suspicious. She is seen running her own campaign as soon as Lucille II goes missing. She could just be exploiting the opportunity, but she does it so readily that you can believe she saw to it that the opportunity would happen.
Michael could be guilty of something, too. We know from narration that he did something “unthinkable” before seeking solitude in the model home after Cinco, and he talks ambiguously to Gob about how he lost control with Lucille II. The obvious explanation is that he regrets propositioning her for money, but they reveal to us later in the season that she rejected those advances. It could still be what he’s filled with self-hate about, but the fact that they keep it vague and then Michael gets force-fed the forget-me-now is interesting in how it seems to leave a door deliberately open.
Maybe Michael didn’t attack her, but a vertigo episode sent her tumbling down the stair car, and he didn’t intervene. It’s also possible that the person who hid Lucille II’s body had nothing to do with her fall. Lots of permutations, which I’m sure was the point. All I know for sure is that Tony Hale is going to hilarious as the innocent man put on trial. And it’s kind of perfect that Buster would be the next Bluth in a prison jumpsuit after George Sr. and Lucille.
I didn’t watch The Office, but as I understand he was part of a pretty terrible subplot on there? I love his appearances on Silicon Valley, but yeah, Marky Bark isn’t my favorite.
