So far it’s been one or two funny moments in a sea of duds..quite the opposite of the reaction I had to Family Guy when it did it’s post Super Bowl turn..
The show is at it’s best on the political humor front, the call between W and god was pretty funny, albiet a bit played out. Some of Mcfarlane’s great comedic timing with dialogue works alright here. Otherwise, it’s just kind of boring and an obvious attempt to capitalize on the recent success of Family Guy, even the characters seem to be exactly the same. My recommendation is that Mcfarlane concentrates on the return of FG in a few months and gives up on this dud.
Update: After finishing the ep, I wish this show a quick death.
Wow. A surprising amount of hate. I mean, it certainly wasn’t Family Guy-quality, but there were definitely some funny moments. I really liked the little exchange about “What did I say about the mines?” and the bit of Iraqis with Ikea.
But if this indicative of the level of quality for the upcoming Family Guy eps, I will weep.
American Dad was shite. I laughed once, at the Iraqi woman falling out the window. In all honesty, who thought the alien shooting out green stuff was a joke worth repeating? Who endorsed the incredibly cluttered design of their kitchen? Why were none of the jokes funny? Good crap, Fox is banking on this show as part of what looks to be shaping up as “The Seth McFarlane Hour”.
On another note, The Simpsons may have totally lost it from a narrative standpoint. Simply said, the writers can’t write no more. However, I have to admire the balls they’ve grown when it comes to taking potshots at conservatives in the last couple months. I only wish they could write a half-decent story about their complaints, rather than one-off jokes.
Anyone else get pissed when they see the four volumes of Futurama sitting on their shelf that will never see any additional episodes?
Wow…very very very pitiful effort. Everything felt like a Family Guy joke that was tweaked to fit the American Dad premise.
There were some geniuine laughs, but overall it was very very sub par.
I too am a bit scared about the quality of the new family guy eps, but I took a quick peek at the writing staff for american dad and it was very different from the old stable of writers for family guy, which i believe is back and mostly intact for the new season.
I too wish they used this slot for arrested development, but hey demographics are a bitch and you KNOW the fox execs saw how well family guy is doing in cartoon network ratings and dvd sales and their eyes lit up when they had the opportunity to show american dad post superbowl which probably encompasses a lot of the family guy demographics.
Also, the fish being in love with the wife screams brian to me, and what the hell is up with The Alien…is it supposed to be that obvious of a Paul Lynde impersonation?

What are you talking about? Arrested Development is doing much better in it’s current timeslot at 8:30 PM and that’s where Fox is keeping it.
