I must be the odd man out, i did find some funny bits in this episode, but well, it just felt like a cousin of Family Guy, even the voices seemed just too familer…well, i just hope Seth does not get lazy with the new family guy…
Absolutly Horrible…just Horrible. I mean there was one mildly amusing part and that was with the Jack in the Box guy…other than that…horrible. I almost turned the tape off…The Voice of the Alien was SO FUCKING ANNOYING.
The Simpsons…not Awesome…but it was good.

By American Dad’s slot, I mean the post-Superbowl slot that it aired in tonight.
And Arrested Development really isn’t doing that well. I’ve heard from people close to the show that nobody is expecting it to be picked up for a third season. Could just be doom and gloom talk, but who knows.

It wasn’t nearly as good as FG which was lucky enough to get the Kool-Aid man joke in the first episode, i’ll wait and see how the following episodes go, but yeah this was not upto FG standards, some jokes were just really really lame, had sparks of FG stuff but it’s no where near FG quality, and the wife character seems crudely drawn compared to the others, the whole father vs. daughter ideal thing was just not good…
I’m scared to say this, but I laughed my ass off after the initial few minutes. I liked everything about it. *dodges raddishes*
I missed it, but from the clips I had seen earlier, it didn’t seem that funny.
Hell, even the house looks almost the same from inside.
And I heard somewhere that Arr. Dev. was ABOUT to be cancelled but the Emmy’s gave it new life and thats why it’s still running.
Futurama’s dead. Simpsons dont have much more gas. And FG is only for a niche audience. American Dad will bomb.
And no one gives King of the Hill any love?
It’s been on for so long and it’s still underappreciated.
God King of the Hill is so amazingly consistent. Mike Judge really hasn’t let that show slip in quality. It really is a forgotten older brother in the Fox prime time animated show archive.
And yes, Futurama was like 4 years of the simpsons in its prime every episode. God that show was good.
And as far as FG being a niche show…I think the massive DVD sales may make it a little more than a niche show when it comes back in May.
Anyway, this is just the first episode, and it was just the pilot. FG was rough around the edges in its first few eps too, not nearly as rough as american dad is though.
I laughed at a few things (the Hilary Duff bit most of all), but overall, if this is what we can expect from the actual run, I can see this show deservedly going away quickly and quietly upon its debut.
I’m going to say a silent prayer that all this means is that Seth McFarlane jumped ship on this show early in the development process, and devoted most of the comedic energy to Family Guy.
As a sidenote, hate to beat this drum to death, but how far The Simpsons has fallen is actually starting to depress me. It’s the TV equivalent of Million Dollar Baby…show’s just fighting to get out at this point…

I thought the same on both counts, but in the case of the fish, they also threw Stewie’s megalomania into the mix. Overall, I think “I have a bearclaw up my ass” is just not a funny brand of comedy.
Yeah, my first thought was “Family Guy-lite”. I’ll give it a chance for a couple of episodes. It does make me worry about new Family Guy. Though what I’ve seen of it (Brian dragging his but all over Mr. Pewterschmidt’s carpet and openly mocking him about it), it already looks funnier than all of American Dad. We’ll see.
Not a good pilot, but the hate here is undeserved so far. Wait until a few episodes happen and then unleash with both barrels.

American Dad - meh. I liked the mall chase and the flashback of the skier with the fish brain. Otherwise, crap.
I actually liked the show. Even though it didn’t come on until about 12:30 because fox boston felt the need to spend an hour showing shots of the streets of Boston and commenting how many police were out that night. At least that’s what I think was on, I had my tv on split screen and was watching the Puppy Bowl on the other channel (now THAT was quality television). I though American Dad was pretty funny and can’t wait for more, although I had thought that was the premiere, not a sneak peek. I can’t wait for new Family Guy episodes but I predict everyone will immediately start bitching that the new episodes aren’t as good as the old ones. No one ever seems to like new things.

McFarlane is a piss-poor writer. He’s an ADD-addled child of an era of bad pop culture who translates his memories into semi-coherent “plot” lines.
Granted, Family Guy certainly can be funny (very funny) at times. But those who proclaim Family Guy as one of the greatest shows of all time are nuts.
And hypocritical to boot. The same folks who deride SHREK for its pop-culture derived humor are the same people who eat up every “Three’s Company” reference in Family Guy. Does anyone honestly think that people 30 years from now will remember “Who’s the Boss?” They’ll be sitting around watching Nick at Night 1990s saying to themselves “Why the fuck is this show supposed to be funny?”
While I enjoy Family Guy/American Dad’s pop culture references, my absolute favorite moments have nothong to do with them. It’s the more absurdist bits like Stewie’s goodbye note about the sweater when he went to London or that neverending fight with Peter and the chicken or Peter banging his knee after running home joyfully or all of the guys slowly leaving Joe crying in the bar…stuff like that.
Shrek isn’t in the same league as Family Guy. Not even close.
FAMILY GUY lucked out with emerging when The Simpsons started to really suck, and people were crying out for a replacement.
Yikes, I’m almost afraid to admit this, but I enjoyed it. The Jack in the Box man in the basment, the Olympic skier with the goldfish’s brain, and dragging along the half dead dog I thought were pretty funny. I do agree this thing looks and acts way too much like Family Guy. Does anybody else think the Dad looks just like Quagmire, only a little meatier?
