Al Qaeda has been a very disappointing terrorist group. They perpetrate the most horrifying terrorist act in history, and every attempt since then has been piddling and about as effective as a toddler with a Nerf bat.
I’m glad they’re a bunch of losers, but the part of me that appreciates excellence in all things can’t help but sadly shake his head. They peaked early, just like Orson Welles.

You’re forgetting the Afghan-Russo War and much of the terrorism activity of the '90s. They’ve been after us ever since we turned down their offer to fight Gulf War I for us. If 9/11 turns out to be the biggest thing they ever do, that’s a late-stage event at this point.

That’s because the orginal Al Qaeda organization was pretty much decimated after 911. Osama is still out there (maybe) but most of the lieutenants have been killed or captured and the infrastructure (Training camps, financing etc) have been destroyed.
This guy is like Richard Reid, a wannabe who may (or may not, it’s still not clear) be claiming to be part of the organization.
Just like the Allies took out all the He Man Nazi in 1945: today all you’ve got left are double digit IQ, pot bellied skin heads claiming to be Nazi.
Which is not to say they still can’t do some damage.
BTW: It turns out the suspect was on the No Fly list for the last two years. The ACLU has been trying to get rid of the list. Do you think there might be a political issue made out of it from the Rove’s of the world? HMM?
One person off of the presumably thousands on a no-fly list isn’t exactly a shining example of a threat to the ACLU’s efforts to get rid of the no-fly list.
And let’s face it, you should question the no-fly list to begin with, since it obviously doesn’t work since this dude still managed to get on a plane.

Meanwhile my younger brother was detained and missed his flight to New York from France last summer (and continues to be detained every single time he flies) because someone with his name is on the list. Never mind the fact that they have different middle names, different birthdays, and are different ethnicities.
