No “Horace and Pete”, no “The Daily Show”, no “Show Me A Hero” (embarrassing) and, most shockingly, no nod for “Late Night With Stephen Colbert”.

It’ll be interesting to see if “GoT” can maintain its streak (it probably will) facing “The Americans” and the ubiquitous “Mr. Robot”, which is all people talk about TV-wise over the last month.

Hooray for Louie Anderson!

Emmy nomination for Tatiana Maslany

Very Good.

Emmy nominations for only Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell on The Americans but the show itself.

Finally.

Most Excellent.

Congrats to Laurie Metcalf on getting 3 acting nominations in one year. Has that happened before?

AI think that’s happened with Alisson Janney some years ago, but I might be wrong. ETA not Janney. Just IMDB’d her.

I’m also pretty sure it happened to other people before but my memory is failing me and my battery is running out.

I’m honestly amazed to see Peter Dinklage there again. Is his family heavily involved in deciding the nominations every year?

AHe’s playing the most beloved and entertaining character in the most popular show in the world and a very respected and gifted actor in his own right, so I don’t see any harm in his repeated nods.

What amazing Emmy-worthy performance do you remember him giving this season?

AColbert’s show as it is right now really doesn’t deserve any awards, but I still love the guy, and it does kinda hurt to see fucking Fallon and that pasty unfunny twat who sings in cars get more love than him.

AI thought he was pretty moving in his scene with the dragons and his scene with Danaerys in the finale. Most other actors wouldn’t have been able to make those scenes fly like he did.

It’s Emilia Clarke’s repeated nominations that baffle me, really.

Jim Parsons won an Emmy four years in a row for Big Bang Theory. So, you know, take that as you will.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree but you’re not wrong about Emilia Clarke either. She’s on the same level as Dinklage in my eyes.

I didn’t know this. I need to get out of the mindset that “Emmy = The Best” and start reminding myself that they’re just like the Oscars. Sometimes the right person gets the award they deserve, but often it goes to whoever did the best lobbying behind the scenes, sadly.

ADinklage’s performance when Dany makes Tyrion Hand of the Queen is gold. No more being the black sheep of the Lannisters, no more pathetic “Half Man” who has to pay his friends

Peter Dinklage had some good moments this season, but no, he probably didn’t deserve a nomination. Then again, I would argue that Harrington, Clarke, and Willaims don’t deserve nominations for this season of GoT, either, so his nomination is hardly some egregious sin in my eyes.

The lack of nomination for Colbert wouldn’t be a huge deal to me if Fallon, Kimmel, and Corden all didn’t get nominations. The new show may not be up to par with the Report, but it is leagues better than those three shows. The real snub in that category, though, is Full Frontal. She should win that category; her failure to garner a nomination is baffling. As for The Daily Show not getting nominated, that makes sense to me, since it would be Trevor Noah up for the award. I don’t think anyone, myself included, has really fallen in love with his take.

Here’s where I chime in and say that BLACK SAILS got robbed of a few noms. Toby Stephens, in particular, deserves recognition, and I’d also cite Luke Arnold for a supporting nom.

Hell, they once gave Ellen Burstyn a Best Supporting Actress nomination for a 14 second cameo.

Sam should have gotten a nod. Her and Oliver have been killing it. I like Colbert’s show for the most part. I suspect this is an opinion held by Colbert as well. Numerous digs at CBS, network control, etc. Not a bad show, but it doesn’t seem like the show he wants it to be, and is chafing a bit against the network.

Although he seems to be attempting to make them as fun as possible, I wish he didn’t have to do the celebrity-puff pieces so much. I give him a lot of credit for bringing on types of guests (authors, scientists, non-presidential politicians, etc.) that the other late night shows don’t bother with, but I also never really valued Colbert for his interview segments. Devoting over half of his show to that element sort of limits what he can do.

Love Colbert, but Colbert Report was his peak. I’m glad he’s getting the opportunity to be a big deal, but Colbert Report was magnificent, so much better than the last few years of The Daily Show. Stewart was straight-up bored his last couple of years, but Colbert Report hit it out of the park brilliantly every single night.

Nice to see Robert Smigel and company get a writing nod for the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Election Special. Apparently Hulu has commissioned a follow-up special for later this year, so we may well get Triumph’s commentary on the general election.
