Think what you like of the show, but he does some remarkable, thoughtful work and pretty much carries the entire ensemble. He’s enormously talented.
People haven’t been watching that thing for this long because of Johnny Galecki or Simon Helberg.

Parsons is a great actor. The material he does in that show is clearly beneath him, but he’s a weird looking, openly gay actor. Leading roles (especially ones paying that well) don’t fall out of the sky for actors like him that often. I don’t blame him at all for sticking with “BBT”.
He was amazing in “The Normal Heart” and, from what I hear, his stage performance of the same role was even better.
I agree it was far from Dinklage finest season(not really his fault either) but shit they are handing out so many GOT nominations left and right so why not?
I didn’t know that these were things but..ok
Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition
Outstanding Reality Show Competition
Outstanding Variety Sketch Series
I’ll take your word on that, but his character on TBBT makes me want to punch him in the face. I mean that it’s so grating and offensively awful that some small part of me doesn’t care that I’d actually be breaking my TV and probably my hand, and is still urging, “doooooo iiiiiit”.
DeNiro did Meet the Fockers, but he didn’t win Best Actor for it.
Absolutely. Some shows just don’t make the Emmy radar. Maslany had to be lapping the field for years to finally get a nom, so it’s disappointing but unsurprising that a show that has stealthily become one of the very best on TV got whiffed on.
But hey, THE WIRE only ever got two writing noms, so… (shrug) whaddya gonna do?
Considering it took The Americans four seasons to finally get some Emmy notice, there’s still hope for Black Sails. We can only hope it’ll be before Starz pulls the plug.
Yeah, Toby Stephens is incredible on Black Sails. Then again, Eva Green spent three seasons of Penny Dreadful doing Emmy-worthy work and never got a nomination either, so I’m not surprised.
AGenre work has a hard time being recognized by the Emmys unless it’s a bona-fide phenomenon like Thrones. Otherwise Mads Mikkelson would be hospitalized from a broken back caused by all his Hannibal trophies.
Don’t know how accurate this was after the recent rule changes (or before for that matter) but it was an interesting read.

Supposedly … If this is correct:
One key factor: network employees vote in blocks for their marquee shows.
AUgh, Emilia Clarke nominated again? How?
And Peter Dinklage didn’t do anything great this season either.
Dinklage had a standout scene where he unchained the dragons this year, but I don’t disagree that most of the Thrones noms seem kind of default.
It’s the most acting nods the show has ever got, actually.
Because it’s a big ensemble piece, all cast members agreed to submit themselves as Supporting players (which is fair, in my opinion). Unfortunately, there are going to be people whose characters are more featured and/or in more dramatic storylines.
I’m on the record here as a downer on Kit Harington’s work on the show, but Battle of the Bastards, as good as it was, wouldn’t have worked nearly as well with a lesser actor in the role. He really grew into the part, IMO, and did a wonderful job this season. Of the nominees, I think he’s the worthiest one AFTER LENA HEADEY, of course, because god damn.
Harington’s never gonna be the actor that, say, Liam Cunningham, Iain Glen or Max Von Sydow (who is also nominated this year! yet Jonathan Pryce is not!!! how did that happen???) are. It’s similar to the disparate between Emilia Clarke and Gwendoline Christie (perhaps the most talented performer in the cast), really. But Harington had an amazing character arc this year and he pulled it off with aplomb. I cared the shit out of his fate throughout this season, and that’s the first time that’s ever happened. He was also kind of the leading role this year, but Supporting players are allowed to submit two episodes, while Leading players can only submit one. Harington was the centre of attention for one whole episode (in which he killed it) and, literally, the face of the most emotionally satisfying moment of the show’s entire run so far in the episode that followed it.
I understand why he’s nominated this year, and I’ll even go so far as to say that he might win his category. And, much to my surprise, I’d be OK with that.
Von Sydow really did nothing at all special with the thin character he received. But he is a legend, so whatever.
I love the man, but you’re right. He’s nominated for “Best Gravitas”, really.
Still… it’s Max Von Goddamn Sydow. He was in “The Seventh Seal” and “The Virgin Spring” and so and so…
Now that I think about it, Pryce may have been a big enough presence this season to qualify as a Supporting cast member as opposed to a Guest star.
APeople still thing Emmy noms/ wins are on merit? I thought CHUD was smarter than this?
At least Fargo got 18 nominations. Hope it sweeps the night.
But Anya’s right. If they gave these out on merit, Eva Green and Billie Piper would both tragically die from being crushed under the weight of the statues they deserve for two mesmerising performances on Penny Dreadful. Eva for the consistently great performances she gave on that show and Piper for one of the best monologues I have ever seen.
Goddammit I miss Penny Dreadful…

Pryce was in the opening main cast credits, so I assume that disqualifies him from being considered a “guest star”.

OJ is going to steal it’s lunch money, which is too bad because I loved the second season. But it’s deserving enough in its own right that it doesn’t really register on the scale of Emmy tragedy.
The big Fargo robbery was in Patrick Wilson not even getting nominated. But since he and Oscar Isaac are out, I have no problem with Courtney Vance winning that category (TBH, he may have been my pick even if they were nominated). Incredible performance. Fingers crossed Woodbine takes it in Supporting, though Sterling K. Brown would be deserving as well.
Would’ve liked to have seen Girlfriend Experience nominated. Riley Keough deserved to be there alongside Paulson and Dunst in the actress category as well.
And in terms of genre shows that got overlooked, Amy Acker at the very least should’ve gotten a nom for Person of Interest somewhere along the line (in addition to this year either 6741 or the finale getting recognition in Writing/Directing). Also fucked over: You’re The Worst and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. And Review. Any comedy lead acting category this year without Andy Daly should be a federal crime. Not to mention BoJack Horseman getting completely overlooked in the Animated categories.
Still, I dig The Americans finally getting love, and that surprise Constance Zimmer nomination for UnREAL (Shiri Appleby should’ve been nominated too, but I’ll take what I can get).
AMore chopped liver in comedy: the brilliant Nathan For You.
Part of me wants the show to be nominated just to see how Nathan would dress for the Emmys.
Keeping my fingers crossed that Better Call Saul (or at least Bob Odenkirk) and Game Of Thrones’ “Battle Of The Bastards” pick up awards tonight. If not, I’ll have to rent out God’s Not Dead to convince me that God isn’t… you know.
