Your new batman: unknown actor benjamin géza affleck-boldt

It’s a Zack Snyder movie. He only has one tone and style!

Affleck doesn’t “shine” in DAREDEVIL. He’s average in a terrible film. Christ, talk about revisionist history. And Evans was hardly the lead in FF, and no matter how bad you want to believe it FF was nowhere near as bad as DAREDEVIL.An

And Evans has never been the acting pariah that Affleck has. Affleck’s just built himself into a highly admired filmmaker after years of being maligned for his shonky acting choices. Context is everything.

Good reason to get excited about it, though, Dickson - “Well maybe other more suitable actors weren’t interested” doesn’t suddenly make Ben Affleck a great choice for the job.

I’m just thinking about having 2 hours of him and Cavill interacting, and the thought is putting me to sleep. Neither of these actors have much natural charisma and mostly coast on their physical presences. They needed more interesting casting here to liven up the place.

To take it even further Evans was able to shine as Steve Rogers, incredibly ironic considering he’s going completely against his established strengths by playing the boy scout.

I guess we’ve just reached a major disagreement. I see in The Town a great basis for a Bruce Wayne who’s strong, confident, but also weighed down by his dark side. I see absolutely no reason why a Batman born out of that performance can’t fit in the Man Of Steel universe. Maybe you might care to elaborate beyond “I don’t see it!” He’s not capable of boiling rage? Not capable of being ponderous? What do you even mean?

Ohhhh… Nvm. You’re just crazy.

AYou guys think Affleck will have input on the story going forward? I’d love it if he does.

What exactly about that post is crazy? Suggesting that Affleck didn’t shine in DAREDEVIL, or that Affleck has a terrible reputation amongst the wider public in terms of acting? You’re so weird.

As long as Goyer and Snyder are in charge of the story, the casting doesn’t matter. Man of Steel had Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner and Amy Adams and that movie was a big pile of loud, interminable who-gives-a-fuck.

Also, THE TOWN? Not that great. Using that (and fucking DAREDEVIL) as some sort of standard of quality probably isn’t the best way to make your case.

AFreeman, Afflected Batman will be fine but Daredevil is superior to The Fantastic Four by a…Mile.

As always Duke, we agree. I’d watch the Daredevil DC over FF any day.

And The Town IS that good. I’d say it’s a minor classic in the hiest robbery genre.

This.

Casting Affleck as Batman just makes my eyes tired, and I feel like taking a nap. Caville and Affleck sharing the screen, and we’re talking, passing out Nyquil for the audience.

I have a feeling Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is going to take the Bats vs. Superman movie to town, and probably out-gross it too.

AI’m honestly mystified here. Why is Freeman defending the casting for the sequel to a film he hated? Why is Saxon raining down blows on the sequel to a movie he loved? Am I accessing an alternate universe CHUD here?

Either way, I’m on the opposite side of the fence as far as Harford’s preference for a depiction of Batman is concerned. While I’m not asking for Super-friends here, I would rather see a Batman that is not tortured and slightly insane here. So Affleck seems like an okay fit to me.

I’d LOVE to see a Batman who’s not tortured and slightly insane. But given that a)they’ve quoted TDKR as a reference point, b)MAN OF STEEL was the most joyless Superman movie ever, and c)Batman’s about to pick a fight with an indestructible alien for no readily discernable reason, I don’t think we’ll be getting that from this film. If this were a total reboot of Batman to something lighter then yeah, I’d give Affleck a shot. But in this situation? It’s bizarre.

Matt Damon for Robin?

AEh, I don’t think TDKR is actually a reference point. Sure, they maybe consulting Millar, but I don’t think the TDKR quote is supposed to mean anything, really. They just read it out because it sounds cool. Unless they’ve actually stated TDKR is an inspiration. In that case, I apologize.

And could a joyless movie not have a non-tortured non-freakshow Batman? If anything, I think a light-hearted film would work against Affleck - the worst parts of Daredevil involved the “light” scenes. Like the see-saw fight scene with Elektra. I think Affleck works great when you keep ramping up the intensity. Which Snyder knows how to do (I’m not saying he does it effectively; just that his films always build UP rather than crumble down).

Don’t get me wrong, I hated Man Of Steel and that version of Superman is forever dead to me. Even though Synder has said the TDKR is only a jumping off point, and they’re not adapting that book, I have absolutely zero faith in the creatives behind the scenes. They’ve taken the Batman character out of the hands of a talented story teller and given the keys to the British lead of In The Loop. Meanwhile Joss Whedon and Marvel are across the street spinning plates and juggling chainsaws like it was nothing.

While we’re at it, Anna Chlumsky would be a much better Louis Lane than Amy Adams by a factor of 15. She’s also 32, and Amy Adams will be 40+ by the time Dark Knight of Steel gets off the ground. Time for a Katie Holmes recasting swap if ever I saw one.

If this were Old Flavor Affleck, i’d be worried, but the guy’s last performances and work as a director has deservedly earned him both praise and opportunities; he took a break and decided to let go of the pretty boy persona he seemed to had been molded by Hollywood back in the day, and showed that he’s extremely talented and focused when he’s left to his own devices.

And after both Ledger and Evans showing they also had it in them, we should be more open here.

I’d say that as long as Affleck isnt forced to do a bat-bale copy, he’ll shine in the role…just go with a Batman like the one we saw in TAS/JL or the Arkham games, and all’s good.

And if not, they could always just dub him over with Kevin Conroy.

I have zero problems with this.
