Your new batman: unknown actor benjamin géza affleck-boldt

Is America Finally Ready for a Super-hero that’s NOT Suppressing an English Accent?

AMuch love and respect to Affleck, but it needs to be said: AfflecknotBatman.com. He is being completely miscast here, and it’s stunning WB could have misjudged the character so completely.

Affleck for Superman? Not bad. Affleck as the Batman? A serious error.

Arkham fuck yourself.

That’s all I have to contribute here.

Awful.

Fire Snyder and let him direct the fucking movie. Cast somebody else.

ETA- In terms of superheroes, I’ve always though Affleck is sort of like Spidey’s personality in Superman’s body. But neither of those things add up to Batman. Remotely.

AIt pretty much goes without saying, but Affleck does NOT have ‘the eyes of a killer’ or the intensity of a ‘caged animal’. He has so far in his career exhibited nothing that would indicate he is suited for Batman. I’ve seen most every Ben Affleck movie ever made, and sorry, I’m not seeing how his casting as Batman made any sense.

It’s because you lack vision.

Go back to 89 and say the same thing about Keaton, like every body was.

That’s so true. Of the two heroes, Affleck would be a perfect Superman not Batman…

I think his brother would have been a better pick for Batman. He already showed he could play a barely-constrained madman in The Killer Inside Me.

Oh well. Could have been Orlando Bloom so there’s a positive side to everything.

  1. Keaton fit in with Burton’s slightly skewed world in a way he probably wouldn’t have in Snyder’s more straightforward approach.

  2. Keaton is a MUCH better actor than Ben Affleck.

Casey Affleck?! Casey? With the whiny nasally squeaky voice? Are you high?

I think his point was that a great many people balked at the casting of Keaton back in the day and thought his career mostly consisting of comedies (and fresh out of BEETLEJUICE with Tim Burton) made him a very unsuitable choice. NOBODY had a fucking clue how well he was going to turn out in the role, and we certainly do not have any idea of how well Affleck will turn out either. Let’s not kid ourselves otherwise.

I think Affleck is a fine choice. Just wait and see folks. It’s not as if he’s fresh out of the days of SURVIVING CHRISTMAS and Bennifer. I’m willing to give him a shot.

AAffleck was…Solid, yet not…MARVELous, as Daredevil, but he should be better than George Clooney.

Not every Batman has to fit into the same mold, that’s the joy of the character. Affleck would be a perfect Batman if played in the style of the 90’s animated series.

Which is still the best interpretation of the character.

At the time Burton’s style wasn’t as familiar as it is now, and Keaton was known primarily as a comedic actor. You can’t say the same of Snyder and Affleck, who are both very known quantities in the film they’ll be making. We’ve seen Snyder’s vision for this world, and we’ve seen Affleck play a smart, stoic superhero. I think people are right to be underwhelmed. Of course we’re not going to know for sure until we see it, but that’s not a pro-Affleck argument, that’s a “why speculate at all?” argument. And if you’re not in favor of speculation then you’re on the wrong internets, my friend.

What about Casey Kasem? He has a deep voice and a strong chin. Plus he’s an older fella.

Also, the Bat Signal is kind of like a long distance request, when you think about it.

I’m sure they’ll tailor this Batman to Affleck’s strengths (and he does have many). It’s very unlikely that they’ll make him the same withdrawn lunatic that Bale played. As Ken said, Affleck would work great as a Batman modeled after the animated series.

One possible advantage of this is that if what Tim wrote on his site is correct, Affleck may actually end up directing the thing, which I’m sure most people would consider a step up - though I think Snyder did an admirable job with MoS.

Snyder’s already locked to direct, isn’t he?

Can’t wait for Bats and Supes’ playful slapfight on a kids’ playground.

Yeah he was but apparently he and Goyer are really pissed off about there not being a MoS sequel. I dunno, Daniel claims to have “insider info” but you never know how reliable that is.

ABOILER ROOM. THE TOWN… Affleck can do darker and/or tougher characters. And his directorial choices show he is willing to learn and adapt.

AAlso, people were pissed about Heath Ledger, and that tuned out ok.

ABoiler Room? You mean that godawful impersonation of Alec Baldwin in Glengarry? He was okay in The Town, but he was playing a Boston guy and it was more romantic lead than true tough guy.

Also, if Keaton is a much better actor than Affleck, then Ledger was in another stratosphere. He was coming off maybe the best American male performance of the entire decade in Brokeback Mountain. People who doubted him were doubting his “type”, not his fundamental ability to act. Affleck has a light touch, and can be charming, but he’s basically as basic as Ryan Reynolds. Luckily he’s a heck of a director.
