X-COM 2 Thread

Finished it, and never bumped up the difficulty level because every fight was a struggle. Looking at my stats vs. the World, I was clearly underleveled but I didn’t care - the last three fights are well designed, except for one quirk with the last boss type that really plays into the hands of the squad.

I liked how they handled Psionics this go around. In the original and in the first reboot Psionics really were game-breakers, this time it’s important but you can’t just roll in there with a pair of psi guys and go apeshit. You still need a balanced squad. Maybe that changes on replays but I felt like I had a pretty good mix and it worked well.

I never got into the hacking. For one thing it seemed like my chances to do anything useful were so low.. and I never saw a way you could increase your hacking score through items or research.

Also, armor is a bitch. You had to have heavies along just to take care of that on some of the mobs.

AThe Long War guys up and did a major Long War mod. Beyond that I dont know much more aboout it, other than what little I saw makes it look like a far different game from XCom 2 than the original Long War was from XCom EW.

If I had not crawled so far up Ark Survival’s ass I’d check it out, but man, I’m gonna be on that one for a good while.

AI’ve played it a few times, but foolishly didn’t read the readme file so royally messed up in first few days.
Haven’t gone back to it for a while but looks pretty solid, runs with the guerrilla setting quite well.

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone’s picked up War of the Chosen? Some people say it’s almost like XCOM 3 because they’re so much to do, but I’m hearing horror stories about performance on PS4.

AI got unexpectedly sucked in to the vanilla Xcom 2 trial on XB1, played about 5 hours so far.

There are things I had to google, but I found the overworld strategy stuff surprisingly intuitive to get into. These game designers are really on top of it. I love everything. The base expansion and research is crack-like. And I’m usually a pretty harsh judge of game stories and lore, but this one sucked me right in. It’s all tightly woven with just enough cool details to paint the picture while still keeping things heightened and game-y.

(That one time I tried the OG Xcom, I took one look at the baffling globe interface, cried, and quit.)

My first playthrough is a “fuck it, do whatever” run on easy. I won’t stress about any choices or reload on messups unless more than one or two veterans get killed. If I hit any impassible roadblocks later, I’ll just roll with it through trial and error.

Things I’ve learned:
-Armor isn’t armor, it’s an accesory.
-Flaming cars will blow up when your most decorated soldier stands next to them.
-Remember to actually finish scanning a site after you get distracted by 15 popup alerts.

I’ll never forget my Sharpshooter in the Final Mission taking out three Avatars in a single turn thanks to Serial and Lightning Hands. That tale will be told in the halls of X-Com for decades to come. Godspeed Colonel Richard ‘D.O.A’ Jones you magnificent Pommy bastard.

Missed this. I picked it up a while ago and it is indeed XCOM 2.5 and the additional factions add a LOT of interesting wrinkles to the game and the new maps and mission modes are an utter blast. I was having crashing issues on PC though and got distracted by other things. Would like to jump back into it.

AFinished war of the chosen earlier this week.
Only took my 5th campaign to do, I play on iron man and yeah I get screwed often. I’m getting better apparently, it was 17 campaigns until I finished on xcom 2 vanilla.

I’d say that wad of the chosen makes xcom 2 a complete game, not that it was incomplete before but I don’t think you can go back to vanilla now.
My story involves the 3rd avatar nailing 4 of my guys but getting feedback x4 and dying. Finished the game without firing a shot!
