Also, Fleed, you’re even wrong about Wolverine being the most marketable. Wolverine can’t easily be marketed to young children, since he’s ridiculously violent. Spider-Man is actually more successful from merchandising standpoint.
Greg David, Wolverine and The X-Men is most likely a Y7 rated series. You are correct though…A more violent Wolverine property, where he actually slashes people is Hulk Vs, and that is…PG 13. The original 90’s X-Men cartoon was also rated…Y7. I also bet that Wolverine is in more Marvel comics, either as a regular or one that makes numerous guest appearances. Of course Spider-Man is hugely marketalble for Marvel as not only is he one of their most popular characters…he is also a character accessable to all age groups.
Luca S., Sadly…The Punisher is clearly an R rated character that has been in only a few videogames (Capcom’s The Punisher 1991 is my favorite one, a NES 3rd person shooter 91, and the PS2 and Xbox The Punisher 04,) and is regulated to an occasional guest appearance in Marvel Cartoons, and has had worse luck at the Box Office, than any character outside of Elektra, Man Thing, and Howard The Duck. Punisher War Zone is a great film…but is definitely not for kids.

I hate both the A-Team and the original Battlestar Galactica. I changed my name to face man so that I could alternate my avatar between several different actors with very large or very bizarre faces. It began when I had a Rocky Dennis avatar.
I do agree with you about The Punisher though… it is sad that it is no longer acceptable for children to have a mass murdering psychopath as a role model. What has the world come to.

I also enjoyed the A-Team for many many years without irony - something that millions of other British people did too. These days it is very easy and lazy to say ‘oh i only watched knight rider etc. to be ironic when I was 6’ but the A-Team touched a nerve throughout the world and made it a better place for a while, it’s impact and influence should never be overlooked.
It is a shame that to most americans it is seen as just a cheesy 80s show rather than a high-watermark of their culture.
Indeed it seems to me that to select face man as a username and then bad-mouth the fine work of Messrs Larsen & Benedict is the height of facetiousness. It strikes me there are a number of alternative names that could have been chosen to circumvent such misunderstanding.

Brad Lohan, That SFX guy Frankie was added, he was a 5th wheel type character that added nothing special to the proceedings. Robert Vaughn giving the Team missions, was much less interesting than outfoxing each General, Lt., Colonel that tried to arrest the team each week.
Actually, as someone who did watch the show in its original run, I’m forced to agree with the duke for the second time in two weeks. Adding those two characters was a huge mistake. Like the show or not, it was a winning formula, and monkeying with it was inadvisable. It was a show of large personalities, and dude #5 simply didn’t have the personality to compete. And nobody wanted to see the team taking orders.
I don’t watch A-Team or Knight Rider at all. Not even to be ironic. I liked the shows when I was six because I was fucking six. Gunfire and a talking car are all it takes to impress a six year old. Wolverine is fine as a supporting character but his overexposure and the need to duplicate his success by creating similair charaters or re-shaping old characters to be more like him ruined mainstream superhero comics.
Agreed completely. The glorification of Wolverine and the Punisher were the ruination of Marvel for me.
And I don’t like the A-Team as an adult. I do remember why I enjoyed it at the time, though. As I was just saying in the Star Trek thread, our inner children are retards.
Face Man, I suppose then the difference is, I first saw Knight Rider when I was 14, in 1982 watching Knight Of The Phoenix with one of my friends…while I was not allowed for the epic premiere of…The A-Team because it lauched after the Super Bowl in 83 when I was 15 and couldn’t stay up to 11-12 midnight, as I had school the next day…and my family did not have a vcr…til 1984 just in time for me to record the premiere of…Airwolf, which also first aired after the Super Bowl.

I see we’re sporting the standard modern shitty animation style. I wish somebody would actually sink some money into decent animation for once. God, I miss Futurama.
At a birthday dinner, two friends and I were talking movies and stuff. Both are geeks, but only one is into “movies” in general rather than some franchise.
The franchise-guy (Trek) was complaining about what he’d seen of the new movie and bemoaned the fact that “creators never listen to fans!”
The movie-guy and me literally simultaneously yelled “THEY SHOULDN’T!” Franchise-guy was absolutely baffled that we thought fans weren’t the highest authority on such matters.
I loved Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid, but I mostly get some laughs out of them now. I’m confounded by the fact that relatively normal people love some of this stuff.

Greg David, Everyone be happy, rejoice…We do not agree at all on…Wolverine And The X-Men. I think that WATXM, will be a terrific series with superb animation, and also…I did not like Futurama.
