Anyone else watch this? I don’t like the timeslot, but I think this show is pretty funny. Like a mix between Johnny Quest and The Tick.

I have been watching it. I like it too, but I recall the pilot episode that was shown a looooong time ago and that thing was HILARIOUS. I mean it was gut bustingly funny. The past 2 eps have been good, but not near the quality of that original pilot.
There is a lot of potential though. Brock is obviously the best character, but I really liked “The Monarch” and “Dr. Girlfriend” (what a name!) Hopefully it will get better with time. I don’t imagine Adult Swim would have ordered a full season if they didn’t think it was good.
I believe Ben Edlund (the tick creator) is a contributing creative source to the show too.
I really dig The Venture Brothers, don’t get me wrong, but the show seems almost aggresively…mean-spirited to me. I just think it’s weird that, as in the episode where they’re on the space station, the boys mistake their helper robot for a ghost and go all homicidal on it. Then the boys eject the robot out into space, looking somewhat ahamed at what they had done. It’s a weird vibe. There isn’t a lot of likeable characters on the show, not like ATHF or Sealab. Yes, the pilot rocked balls. I loved the fact that the ninja was trying to steal Dr. Venture’s invention because he was a mechanical fetishist, and could only get off on machines. And the beating that Brock administers to The Monarch is hellacious. Still, the show hasn’t quite grabbed me as much as it should, but I love the concept of what is essentially “Johnny Quest” set in the real, wholly dysfunctional world. Still the balls, and a 1000 times better than the 1-2 dionkey punch that is “Baby Blues” and “Mission Hill.” I can’t wait 'til they have enough original shows on AS so that they can shoot those two 'tardwads into the stratusphere.
Any show that depicts Bigfoot and the Bionic Man as lovers is aces over here.

EDIT: I just saw yesterday’s episode on my Tivo, and I think I just saw this show reach its full potential. It was a fantastic episode all around. From the robots, to the henchman, to Baron Underbite, to big foot, to the lactating.
Hilarious stuff.
I don’t think Mission Hill is all that bad, either.

I don’t think they weren’t ashamed; they were still sad that they’re dad died, bless their stupid little hearts. And I think Brock and the Monarch are pretty likable.
Grr. The ratings on this show are sucking right now. I pray that adult swim doesn’t cancel this, especially not after that last ep.
FYI, the show also reruns on Sundays at 11:30 (12:30 EDT).
Wow…a new show on Adult Swim not getting good ratings? I think its the timeslot. Its first run is saturday night…saturday night is for anime action cartoons. This show really should have its first run episodes on sunday night. 12:30 is a good spot too for it to air on sunday, a little bit after aqua teens.
I don’t imagine they would cancel it. I don’t think their library is large enough to go and cancel a show for which there are already 13 episodes in the can.
I don’t even know. I also thought it was the timeslot, but the last ratings report for Saturday had Futurama on top (again) with 500,000+ viewers. The other top three were InuYasha and Wolf’s Rain. Venture Bros wasn’t even in the top three.
I’d like to think that people just haven’t been drawn to it yet, but it may be that the people simply don’t like it. If you can rummage through the childish BS on the Adult Swim boards, you can see that the opinion is about half and half, with most of the half that doesn’t like it sounding like prepubescents that wouldn’t get the humor or only like something when cursing is involved.
The quality of Venture Bros animation seems like it’s expensive; more expensive to produce than the William Street shows and Home Movies, and probably more expensive than the rights to their anime. Expensive along with low ratings isn’t promising.
They’ll likely show all of what they got (hell, they still show Baby Blues, and there aren’t many that like that), but I sure didn’t want this good show to go the way of The Tick so [as] can show more reruns.

It’s animated with Flash, so I don’t know how much more expensive it is. Certainly, it’s more time consuming than animating a Sealab, but it’s not like it’s hand drawn, or anything.
Saw the last episode on Sunday. It’s turned the corner for me. This show is the tits. I loved Underbite and his Dr. Doom ways (even had the cloak! Nice!), and the henchmen discussions about how they became henchmen (it’s kinda funny and sad how The Monarch’s henchmen’s stories sound a lot like guys serving in the army right now). Plus, the creators really know how to whip up characters. C’mon, who else but Ben Edlund could come up with characters like Girl Hitler, Dr. Girlfriend, and Magic 8-Boy! Priceless.
I glanced up from the computer to see Magic 8-Boy the other night and really cracked up. I’ve been watching this and enjoying it, but yeah, that pilot was the BEST. I’ll stick with it because it’s creative and Quest-like.

this was another great episode. Molotov Cocktease. fantastic name. fantastic character. She was like a mix of elektra, black widow, and a james bond girl all in one. I really loved the Orange County revolutionaries. That was friggin hilarious. “You are in the gym…of the orange coast college”

I don’t know how much it cost to make this, but Flash or not, this is by far the highest quality original Adult Swim has made outside of Big O. For this to be the BOTTOM in their premiere show lineup (yes, the bottom; it’s below the fucking Brak Show) is awful.
Gah, I keep forgetting about this show! Must set VCR (still gunshy about TiVo).

ObiJuan, put the money down for a tivo and alifetime subscription. Your life will be much easier and you will throw your vcr in the trash the next day.

Living in OC made this episode funny beyond belief. This the most ‘funnest place on earth’ episode to watch. This just bring the plight of this great county and the evil corporation that wishes to own it out right.
Along with Family Guy, these are my new favorite shows.
