A
2020? He’s not running again, guys. Why would he take the risk of losing? He got the prize, proved that his celebrity is th best. Won the biggest toy imaginable. He won’t do it again at 74.
Inevitably, one of you will throw post back in my face in three or so years.
Oh yeah, if I were him I’d go out on top! He can play the “I didn’t need this, I’m a billionaire! I ran because I love this country, and it needed fixing. And I. Fixed. It. Mike Pence is an outstanding individual (who’s actually been running the country for the last 4 years anyway), and you should vote for him.”
They’ll give Pence unanimous support and give him a female VP running mate.
It’ll all depend on how things are going, really. If he’s as big a clusterfuck as he could be short of global nuclear war…no, he wouldn’t win a re-election bid, nor would his chosen successor.
If things aren’t a disaster, it’ll depend on who the Dems put up to try to defeat him.
If things are, by some miracle, going well…then yeah, reelection may be all but a formality.
I do find the conundrum of Trump handling the office of the Presidency an interesting one, as it’s going to be a continual war between his desire for the biggest spotlight imaginable and his wish to do as little actual work as possible. I also don’t think he’ll allow himself to just be a rubber-stamp/puppet president…not entirely. His ego is too big to risk some other guy (Pence) getting all the credit for “his” work, and even more so people believing that “Pence is really the guy in charge.”
He’s gonna swing his dick around from time-to-time and it’ll be amusing to see who in the GOP it ends up slapping in the face in the process (usually Pence). I also fully expect that Trump will be quick to seize credit for any good news and throw Pence and Congress under the bus for bad news on a regular basis. That’s gonna make things prickly between the various factions.
I also find myself curious as to whether John Kasich is kicking himself for not accepting the supposed Trump running mate offer, or if he’s still kicking back thinking, “Oh Mike, you really don’t know how bad you’re going to get screwed, do you?”
The Dow Jones is up, but the NASDAQ is down I see, especially hi-tech companies who import skilled labour and export manufacturing jobs (Apple, etc). The market seems remarkably unfazed by Trump though.
AI’m glad I’m Canadian and wasn’t forced to vote between two of the worst candidates for the presidency in probably ever, as you guys did.
I dislike Donald Trump. I dislike Hillary Clinton.
With that said, Donald Trump didn’t become a billionaire by being stupid, lucky, or lazy. He’s a smart guy in certain ways, in other ways he is a really, really stupid guy.
It’s 2016. Trump is a business man. It’s bad business to start wars. He’ll be more concerned with trade agreements and finding a way to slow down China’s skyrocketing economy that is beneficial to the US economy.
I think that’s about the only positive thing to say about him.

Good luck guus.
He became rich by inheriting his money and getting his face put on television as often as possible.
I just read his proposal for the first 100 days. Essentially the “BAN ALL MUSLIMS” has been reworked (or rephrased) into this (taken from his proposal for his first 100 day ):
And to whomever said their mother didn’t feel she needed to vote for Hilary just because she’s a woman, bravo to her. People keep bringing up “how could all those women vote for Trump?”. Thinking that women have to vote for a woman just because she’s a woman is illogical and sexist, but somehow it’s seen as a valid argument. There’s a bunch of people out there who’ll jump on a man’s ass for voting for a man and be like “why did you for HIM and no her? You’re a sexist!”, but then if a woman votes for a woman they’re “Good for her for supporting women!” but if she votes for a man “She’s voting against her interests!” The man voting for a man get’s called a sexist, but a woman voting for a man is stupid/dumb/ignorant/self-hating? That’s really insulting to women’s intelligence.
Like a good friend of mine and New Yorker said on Facebook early on in the election cycle when Bernie was still in the race: “Why are people telling me to vote with my vagina?”
It’s not that Hillary was owed votes on account of her vagina, it’s that Trump is specifically, uniquely, openly toxic to women as anything but sex dolls. I understand not voting for Hillary. I do not understand voting for “just grab them by the pussy.”

Maybe those women who voted for Trump think the lesser of two evils is a man who said “grab em in the pussy” and all that goes with it?
I’m just saying that if 53% of voting women voted for Trump, then writing them all off as ignorant, stupid, self-hating, no self interest, etc. just to feel morally superior about yourself and explain the results is exactly the mentality that got a ridiculous candidate like Trump elected in the first place.
EDIT:
I’m personally close (she’s basically family) with a woman (Jewish, daughter of immigrants) who’s a successful owner of two business who voted for Trump. I’m sure there are plenty of other intelligent, successful women like her who voted for him. There is something more going on here. People are willing to put aside or ignore aspects of politicians, people can justify choices that seem to be at odds with who they are (I know Latinos who voted Trump [note: I am Latino myself]).
I’m advocating intelligent analysis and reflection to try to actually figure out what happened. Not blaming sexes or groups and feeling morally superior.
Bully for you. No particular group is a monolith, and everyone has to do their own calculus. I personally am not capable of working out the type of calculus that would lead me, as a frog, to vote for someone who openly identifies as a scorpion.

I can dig it, I was just trying to point out your “just because she’s a woman” angle was missing a massively relevant angle in terms of what Trump represents to many. And, as usual, Schwartz had already done it by the time I hit submit, but I need to get my post count up if I’m ever going to catch Nooj so I posted it anyway. Sorry if it seemed like piling on.
AI think I’m having some sort of delayed reaction to this whole thing.
I mean I genuinely didn’t expect Trump to win, genuinely believed that the general American population isn’t that stupid. Honestly thought that deep down when it came right down to it in the polling booths the vast majority, or even just a majority wouldn’t be able to bring themselves to put their mark down for Trump.
It’s only now that I see the pictures of him sitting next to Obama in the Oval Office is it sinking re couldn’t be a bigger contrast in political and ideological figures. Literally poles apart. Just unbelievable. It’s just hitting home now that o see the, together. What the fucking fuck did America do? Jesus Christ. I mean Hillary was bad, make no mistake I thought she was a fucking horror of a woman, but she at least had a clue about politics. Trump genuinely looks scared to be there. He was happy enough to win, but it looks like it’s only now sinking in for him too. Obama looks hard pressed to have to share a stage with this clueless shitheel and you can’t blame the man.
