And I really think that coda redeemed the episode. There was Jim in absentia being a stabilizing force for sanity, getting revenge for everyone in the Office.
The merger can’t happen soon enough.
Loved the “Gaydar” bit at the end. So very funny.
Anyone else thing that the two branches are going to merge, thus bringing Jim and Pam back together and some great scenes between ed helms’ character and Dwight?

My only complaint about the episode was the “flashback” was poorly handled. Surely they could’ve come up with a better way to handle it. Maybe during a talking head segment after someone referred to it.

Loved the reaction of the guy with the jell-O calculator. Jim was mugging for the camera, the guy goes apeshit and Jim goes back acting like nothing happened.
The part that fucking floored me was the throw-away bit of Meredith eating the hand-sanitizer. I had forgotten until I saw it posted that she is a recovering alkee.
Dwight is the new Fonzi. Without his character it’s done. I used to work with a dick like Dwight, although that guy was much more of a pussy and not nearly as aggressive.
Such a great show.
Has anyone noticed that Micheal’s boss is the girlfriend from Iron Eagle? Still a cutie I must say.
The look Michael gives the camera when he tells Jan that she of all people should know he’s not gay damn near killed me.
I think the reason Michael went this far is to show just how much Jim is missed around there. I think if Jim had been there, things probably wouldn’t have gone as far as they did – he always seemed to be the one who was able to defuse Michael’s wild forays into inappropriateness.
And I’m sorry, but the scenes of Pam and Jim slipping into their old routine and realizing the other person isn’t there were just heart-breaking. And I really liked the reveal of the wedding being called off – no big splashy scene, just the close-up on Pam’s finger and the awkward look she gives the camera (plus the whole awkwardness of her ex-fiance’s lunch delivery). Just well done.
The girl asking why “Jim looks at the camera and then does this” was pretty fucking hilarious.
Wasn’t the wedding break off plot in the British version? I vaguely remember them using the same “we had to pay for the food” joke.
I can’t add anything that hasn’t already been said with regard to funny moments. The episode was aces in my book. During the terribly awkward office staff meeting, I began laughing so hard that my chest, like, locked up or something. Dwight tries to kiss Oscar and suddenly, instead of laughter coming out of my mouth, I could only make this weird hitching, hissing noise. It kind of hurt, but felt good, too. Any show that can do that is alright by me.
I love the squirm-worthiness of it all… I aslo like the fact we are now splitting time with another office, with fresh faces. Very nicely done.
I was wondering just how they can keep a show like this going, and I think the answered that last night. You could have a few seasons within one office, have a character move to a new branch, and do what they did last night, break in new characters and environments, and then slowly pull away from Office A and focus more and more on Office B. Then down the line, repeat. I mean fuck, ER has lost all of the first season characters (right?) and it is still a Thursday Night staple.

That’s probably not what they’re going to do. Jim’s a fun character, but you don’t drop Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, and the rest of the cast we’ve grown to love just because you’re afraid that it’s going to get stale after three seasons.

I don’t think so. I know that in The Office special, Dawn and her boyfriend had moved to the U.S. together. I assume they got married.
Weird. I could swear that joke was used in the U.K. show. Oh well… funny nonetheless.

Yeah, I was just flapping about the door being open to do something like that. Everybody loved Clooney in ER, and thought the show would dry up with him leaving…
