But yeah…this looks good. Recognized lots of iconic imagery from the first game, there (including the tilted skyscraper in Boston).
I had not realized Craig Mazin was making this. Chernobyl was lights out fantastic, so that gives me a ton of confidence.
Maybe…a good video game adaptation?
I’ve never played the game, but I’m in on this. I thought CHERNOBYL was excellent… And using Hank Williams in your trailer is good salesmanship.
I’ve also never played the games and am all in on this.
Originally Chernobyl director Johan Renck was also attached (with collaborator Craig Mazin) as a director/producer on this project, but he ended up having to drop out due to scheduling difficulties (IIRC). I remember getting super-freaking excited when both were announced as developing this show, but the end result still looks absolutely incredible regardless. Apparently this is a much more faithful adaptation of the first game (with some storytelling-expansion and new characters, right down to using actual dialogue from the game in various scripts) than the Uncharted movie, which was a wholly-new tale with some “Uncharted-style moments” inserted.
That’s a pretty great trailer.
It doesn’t sell me on the casting of Lady Mormont as Ellie, though, which coming into this was my overwhelming (probably only) concern for this first season.
Looks intriguing…and depressing.

Renck is adapting Spaceman of Bohemia (a very interesting book) for Netflix with Adam Sandler in the lead and then also Paul Dano and Cary Mulligan and Isabella Rossellini. I think the movie is just called SPACEMAN.
I am looking forward to that and this.
It is funny how much cred Craig Mazin instantly built with CHERNOBYL. All of his other projects are mediocre and/or bad but he very well might have turned a corner. This one certainly looks good, too.
My biggest gripe with CHERNOBYL was how overwhelmingly British those Russians were, lol. I had to watch it with Czech dubs so I could at least pretend they were speaking the right language.

^ Really liked the little touch of A-ha’s “Take on Me” playing on the radio (from the second game).
Consideing there’s a lot of elements in that trailer that are late game story stuff, I wonder if the the first season will cover the entirety of the 1st game. And then if they do…do they jump right into the sequel, or will they try to extend the first game to wring out a couple of more seasons before Abby decides to “play golf” with Joel.
If they’re not jumping into the second game right away, they’re definitely covering the first game’s DLC to a certain extent, as we see Ellie and Riley taking pictures in a mall photo-booth (from Left Behind) in the new trailer. Also, it looks like they’re gonna be depicting Joel, Ellie, and Tess going into the Boston Revolutionary War-museum (where one of them gets bitten), judging from that footage there.
Yeah I hope they don’t pull a TWD. This is, at best, a four season show. We don’t need a 10 season TLOU show.
Difficult to get excited about this until I get some sense that the show creators are explicitly rejecting most of the thematic choices made in the game’s sequel, or at least until I see some indication that the first season will be faithful to the first game.
Word on the street is, to put it in game terms..

Good to hear… I’ll have to check which month its finale will air in (March?), so I can sub for perhaps my last time ever to HBO!
