Mighty Max rocked. Even had a continuous story (imagine that) and a finale.
If you want to blame the disappearance on anyone, blame it on Saved by the Bell.
See the reason why cartoon have basicly vasnished is because Networks figured out it was too expensive (or at least least expensive) to make cartoons so as a cost cutting measure they decided to make crappy teen shows instead.
The only reason why Fox has done somewhat well probably has more to do with the fact that they buy rather than make their own cartoons (with a few exceptions here and there).
I really miss Spider Man and his amazing friends (that show the one I couldn’t miss).
No one finds Kim Possible really hot? Competence is such a turn on!

Its not always true, I was watching Battle Of The Planets on Boomerange yesterday and as soon as the theme came on, one thought entered my mind. They stole the theme to superfriends!

All the wonder has been sucked out of the cartoons that remain, every new show has a teen hero who just wants to be popular. Adventure, imagination and wonder have been replaced by an obsession with popularity and “being cool”.

Funny, but I think it’s actually true in this case. I’ve watched some of Japanese imports of today, and I certainly remember the ones of my youth. At least with the likes of Robotech, they TRIED to put together a compelling narrative and interesting storylines. You watched Dragon Ball or Yu-Gi-Oh? G.I. Joe was all about toys, sure. But those week-long multi-part episodes actually had some characterization and plot development.
Yes, all of this stuff is meant for children, but I think the stuff in the early 80s still has some watchability to it beyond mere nostalgia. All kids have to watch today are obnoxious imports built upon card games or smashing planets into people.
I don’t miss the cartoons nearly as much as I miss the Schoolhouse Rock shorts and McDonald’s commercials. I never cared for McDonald’s, but i loved watching the Hamburgler get his comeuppance.
No, Devin’s right about this. A friend of mine purchased GI Joe seasons 1 and 2 and me and some guys proceeded to watch it. Afterwards, I swore never to watch GI Joe again fearing it would spoil my fond memories of the show. GI Joe doesn’t make much sense if you were to watch it today for the first time with adult eyes. These guys are special forces? It looks like a bunch of drag queens playing soldier. The whole concept of cobra is just fucked and the animation sucks. I couldn’t believe I was anxious to revisit the show.
A similar thing happened when I watched transformers on cartoon net. It’s terrible japanese drivel. Almost caused me to put up on ebay my still boxed, all metal, Megatron.
Rose tinted glasses are a great thing. Don’t ever take them off.
The stuff from the 80s is garbage. Pokemon does have continuing stories, believe it or not, and they’re just about up there with GI Joe.

I used to watch those shows all the time. You’re talking about the Sonic show that had Sonic being some kind of revolutionary, helping out some oppressed animals, right? And remember when Reboot got all dark and stuff towards the end of its run. That was good times.

I think they’re up to season 5 or 6 now, based on the events in the Advance games.
Fucking Exo Squad and Gargoyles. All though, to be fair, it was only weekday afternoons that I watched gargoyles. I hear it got shitty saturday mornings. Those shows were badass. I’d love to see them on dvd.
I wholeheartedly agree that kids today are getting a bum deal when it comes to Saturday morning cartoons (& cartoons in general) – Although, yeah Kim Possible is quite AWESOME! But if my younger cousins are any indication there’s probably a lack of young male viewers because the main character is a *GASP* GIRL! & girls obviously have cooties. (Girl Main Character usually equals Girl Show in the eyes of kids) which is sad 'cause even I liked watching Jem! heh.
& other shows are cool too … like SpongeBob, Dexter’s Lab, shows that appeal to kids and also adults with the mixture of humour that young and old can appreciate.
I still have fond memories of watching shows like – Dungeons & Dragons, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, The Littles, The Incredible Hulk, Muppet Babies, The Real Ghostbusters, Blackstar, Captain N, Kidd Video, The Smurfs, The Wuzzles … etc. They should just save money on creating new shows and start re-releasing all these shows to a new generation! If they haven’t seen it … it’s new to them! Heh.
