I cannot wait for this show. This is the only comic strip that has ever made me laugh out loud on a regular basis. Well that, and the delightful Ziggy.
I recieved a VHS of the first two episodes from the show’s press agency.
Now I just have to find a VCR to play it on.
Yeah The Boondocks is one of my favorite strips. That promo that pops up every once in awhile is superb.

If you’re referring to the promo then yeah I see how one could see that but it is represntative of the tone of the strip, which is more than just political baiting.
Plus, I thought it was funny.
all the promos so far have my anticipation level at zero.
if they can be shocking AND clever and not just shocking, I’ll tune in (a balance that South Park only occasionally manages to handle, and sometimes to great effect)
if they want to just say controversial things and think they are cute, well…no thanks.

I still think it’s fair to use that terminology as shorthand to explain his style. It’s clearly among one of the guy’s influences. I also seem to recall an interview or two where McGruder himself did not dispute that. Internet drama just got the best of everyone last time, I think.
As for the show, I can’t imagine liking it, Witherspoon aside, because I don’t particularly care for the comic. I’ve never been offended by the strip, I just don’t think it’s funny. People give it a lot of credit for being edgy or against the grain, but I think when you boil it down the vast majority of the strips are the kind of easy pop culture jokes that anyone can make around the watercooler.
Not to say the strip is poorly done- it requires tons of skill and dedication to even get into the funny pages and even more to maintain an audience. I just don’t think it deserves to be elevated to the status of a Calvin and Hobbes or a Peanuts or a Doonesbury, which some people are doing.

I’m glad most of you have written off this show even before it airs. Makes me know I’m on the right track. After all, there’s no one running around in masks and tights, so I can understand the lack of enthusiasm.
Next thing out of Balmundo’s mouth is we don’t like it because we’re racist…
I’m not too interested. Not because of the comic (never read it), but because adult swim has been striking all the way out with their recent new shows, Robot Chicken notwithstanding.
The animation looks pretty good, though, and I will tune it just to check it out.

I wonder what’s worse, claiming racism or stupidity because someone doesn’t like the things you do. Almost as stupid as judging someone by their username.
