Wonderful! CHUD lists have introduced me to so many movies over the years. I look forward to reading more.
Awesome, I’m very much looking forward to the rest of the list.
Good first choice. I’m not as big a fan as Nick is, but the scene of John Cleese as Robin Hood absolutely slays me every single time.
AThis 100 is gonna be murder on my wallet. First one out of the bat reminds me I don’t have Time Bandits.

Time Bandits is easily top 20, hell, maybe even top 10, for me. It’s in my childhood Holy Trinity, along with Alien and Empire, that opened my eyes to what cinema was capable of. It’s one of the most formative films in my young life in terms of humor, imagination, the lure of myth (and mythmaking), and the weird, twisted beauty of nightmares. It’s a strange thing to say, but Time Bandits taught me how to enjoy nightmares.
And that George Harrison closing song fills me with such … fullness, every single goddamned time I watch it.

I will. Just 'll wait for every 15 to save on S&H
First off, super excited about a new list from Nick.
Second, this was such a brilliant movie. BRILLIANT. The actors, the tone, the writing, the settings, the unusual-for-a-kids(?)-movie dark moments especially at the end, and the visuals… What I never see mentioned in TIME BANDIT discussions are some of the really striking scenes. What really stood out to me as what had to have been challenging film making is the cage scene. Also love the exterior of Evil’s castle. And of course the ship giant.
Anyway, this movie was pure magic and a real gift from Gilliam.
“Mom! Dad! Don’t touch it! Its evil!”
Great movie to start the list.
“The problem! I must have fresh fruit!!!”
Great idea for a list and a great start. Good to see this stuff back Nick.
And this is what I like/intrigues me. Films like KANE or CASABLANCA are rightly heralded as all-time classics, but at this point, it’s more interesting when people share their personal favorites rather than going for prestige and some kind of objective greatness.
Looking forward to see what comes.

Here’s hoping that THE REF makes it to #1.
Love that flick, and love Hoffman and Pepper’s performances in particular.
On a side note, great book as well. I was always split on him writing a sequel.
I’d really like to revisit 25th Hour. I remember loving the whole movie except for the mirro-logue scene. It ripped me right out of the film, and left such a bad taste in my mouth for years.

Grace Kelly is disgustingly good looking in this. I don’t watch this movie as much as I want to because I get upset at how beautiful she looks.
She was never more beautiful.
This is my favorite Hitchcock film. The shot of Burr looking into the camera still gives me a case of the "ohmygodohmygodohmygod"s.
ARear Window has a permanent spot in my Top Five. It’s the best movie about watching movies.
Grace Kelly’s entrance is the greatest Technicolor closeup in history. And that impeccable voice, like silk pajamas.
