Figured I’d start a thread for ongoing discussion now that the shorts have started airing.
Chapter 1? More “Star Wars” feeling than almost both prequels put together. The look between Anakin and Padme, with “Across the Stars” playing, was simply magical.
Loved seeing the glimpse of the surface of Mon Cal too.
All in all, good stuff.
The first five seconds killed and buried Droids and The Ewoks forever.
Nah, I’m still not convinced. I just don’t see why this isn’t a normal length animated show. The first “episode” has plenty of Star Wars beats to it, but it still rankles me that the pivotal event of the Star Wars universe is being portrayed in short three minute animated bursts. I can tell it’s really going to constrict the storytelling for something that requires an epic canvas.
I’d love to see a series of animated Star Wars shorts in this style set in the SW universe, away from the events and main characters of the movies, but it’s completely the wrong approach to take for something as important as the Clone Wars.
In other words, I’ll wait for the inevitable edited-together DVD release.
I’m…a tad confused. While I liked the occasional Samurai Jack cartoon, especially the first one, I’m at a loss (especially after seeing stills for these shorts) as to how these can feel any more Star Warsy than the South Park Crew re-enacting the original series, with Kenny as R2, Chef as Obi-wan, Cartman as Solo.

I liked it quite a bit. The Jedi leap out of that dropship to the center of a battle was great. Padme’s appearance was great. Seeing alien planets we don’t see often is great. I’ll be very eager for each of these chapters to appear.
I agree that it’s a restrictive format, but well, it’s gonna be a DECENT-sized chunk of animation when completed. Ten this month, at maybe 4 minutes each, and ten more in the spring.
Not an epic, but decent.
yeah they are a bit short but its stil cool and better than nothing at all I think. Pluse there are rumors now of a second season next year in fall 04 - spring '05 just before the final film so it could end up being longer than 20 episodes. Plus remember Lucas is an old movie serial fan and thats kinda what the Clone Wars cartoon is like those old movie serials. VEry cool I think.
I fucking LOVED it. I echo Poxy’s sentiment as well that it was more Star Wars-y than the movies…in 3-FUCKING MINUTES!

Well I just finished watching the first one online and it was pretty cool, however like many I am a little miffed all we get is a cartoon to show somthing we been waiting years too see..Should be all good!

I was dubious of the animation style, but it works surprisingly great!
The music was there and the money shots looked awesome!
Very epic, very cinematic.
I loved the Anakin, Padme scene.
The voices sounded uncanny to the originals.
Hard to dislike any of this stuff.
My only quibble: NEEDS TO BE LONGER!
If they bring it back as a weekly series, make them thirty minute episodes.

Ok, so I’m curious…where do we see these?
They air on Cartoon Network at 8pm EST on certain nights. Friday was the first one. I think they’re available for _official_ download on one of the related sites (Cartoon Network or Star Wars), or you can seek them out by alternate means.
Ten episodes will air every weeknight at 8PM Eastern, with the second episode airing Monday.
The guy who does Dooku’s voice was the voice of Spike, Brawn, and Shockwave from the old Transformers cartoons. Just so ya know.

I thought it looked fun. The voices were good enough not to be distracting. Not sure if I agree about the ‘more SW than the prequels’ opinions (how is that when the prequels are SW?), to me it looked as though about 90 odd % of it was lifted straight from Ep 2.
Krueger…that’s due to an export compliance law, probably. Yes, Uncle Sam makes sure that no electronic tech/data makes it outside our borders without due process and such, but has no qualms about companies moving all their jobs to India…

We have weird new “export compliance laws” that companies have to deal with…including data exchange. It’s possible the site hasn’t met those compliances, yet. Or maybe it’s a copyright issue.
Fun.
I think these shorts will probably be too…well, short to have any sort of dramatic impact, which means we’ll probably just get a different 3-minute action sequence every episode. But oh well. This already looks better than I ever expected.
Tonight’s episode had some cool moments, though when it ended so abruptly, I wish the show were a little longer.
