You mean like that wine they made from crap just lying about the place in Black Books that went on to kill the Pope?
(Live footage recorded from The Last Jedi writer’s room)
It can never be repeated enough that it’s a shitty, shitty, shitty vastly inferior remake of an episode of television* 13 years later for 50 to 100 times the cost and yet somehow turns in a bafflingly inferior product even by the lowered bar we give big budget film franchises. Which is why I will keep repeating this at every opportunity.
You know, when it isn’t a shitty crib from the original Battlestar Galactica casino planet (which was better), the 1982 Star Wars comic “To Take the Tarkin” (which was better), themes from Lord of War (which was better) and the Hoth battle from The Empire Strikes Back (How dare Rian Johnson even reference this vastly superior film let alone try to drag it down in a failed attempt to make his shitty shitty film look better. One’s in the Library of Congress while the other would be lucky to be used as a beer mat!).
The more years I’ve had to think about this film, the angrier I get.
The Last Jedi final verdict - 2/5
*Battlestar Galactica Season 1 Episode 1 (‘33’) from 2004 just in case anyone reading this wasn’t sure of the reference.
Your takes are so shitty. It’s actually impressive. I haven’t had a foe this truly terrible in a while.
And the fact that you’re laser-focused on the 33 comparisons instead of the great stuff in TLJ that works really well aka the Luke/Rey/Kylo storyline is incredibly telling about your bad faith approach. But by all means hold up the B plot as the reason the movie stinks sure.
We can bitch about season 2 of Picard and how the entire crew is peopled with psychopaths and how none of them hold a candle to other crews by bringing up the vastly more examples from the hundreds and hundreds of episodes of Trek without having to go back to a 5 year old film from a different universe trying to do a different thing. Christ all fucking mighty.
Though the Temporal Cold War was undercooked, I always liked that they would keep brushing aside the logistics of it all because our heroes aren’t well versed in temporal mechanics and it would be too much for their primitive brains.
watched 3 more episodes of S2. Sadly, a lot of it is actually playing worse the second time around.
But it’s not bad, it’s boring. For example, I found myself glancing at my iPad while Seven and Raffi argued, or while Picard and Guinan were being interrogated by the FBI guy. The dysfunctional Soongs continue to be useless. And not-Laris feels like a last minute addition because everyone loved the character in S1, in fact even real Laris feels that way too.
On the plus side, the Guinan/Q scene was pretty good. Rios continues to be awesome even if most of his story is what it is to just take him off the board for S3. Borg Queen Jurati is fine.
Now that I know where the stuff with Picards mom is going I don’t mind it as much as I did the first time around. But I do hate the retcon of her being dead and Picard being somewhat responsible for it.
Boring but not bad to me is a distinction without a difference, because being boring and very very mid, is bad in my book.
It’s beautifully shot. The action is usually serviceable and modern and exciting. There’s little details I love like Romulans looking like a race of people instead of 3 completely identical completely dorky looking bowl cut weirdos. Budget and modernized vision is absolutely something I want.
It just never quite comes together to amount to a whole for me.
I think it is different because…for example the Seven and Raffi stuff…it’s still well written and well acted. It just doesn’t hold my interest. There is nothing there to make me care about the relationship between the two characters.
It doesn’t help either that I think the actors have next to no chemistry. Let alone romantic chemistry.
The thing I didn’t care about at all was the stuff with Picard’s mom. It might have made an interesting story, but how it was ultimately handed didn’t make me care about it.
In fact, I don’t think there had been any bad ideas in S2, it’s just that there’s way too many that should have been cut out. It’s the same problem with ROBOCOP 2 where they took all these ideas and directions and put them in a blender.
That’s part of it too. I think a lot had to do with Covid, the fact the story wasn’t enough to stretch over 10 episodes and also commitments they had made to actors for S2 even after they had been written out of the show.
Captain: Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick), a commanding officer who likes to do things by-the-book and disapproves of Picard and Riker’s free-wheeling reputations.
First Officer: Commander Annika Hansen (Jeri Ryan), a former Borg who took an unconventional path to Starfleet leadership.
Science Officer: Lt. T’Veen (Stephanie Czajkowski), a Vulcan who was sought out by multiple captains.
Tactical Officer: Lt. Matthew Arliss Mura (Joseph Lee), who apparently has mixed Human and Bajoran ancestry.
As someone who bought Mr. Scott’s Guide to the Enterprise with my personal allowance-money way back in the 5th Grade (the early summer of 1987), all this Constitution III-class news is giving me massively fleet-junkie hard right now.
